STRICKEN's New Home

Picture Hi loves!

During #pit2pub in July, STRICKEN received ten submission requests. After spending some time picking my jaw up off the floor and getting the submissions sent off, I was fortunate to receive three offers.

Three?!
Holy crap.
I wasn't expecting ten submission requests, let alone three offers!

After wrapping my mind around that, I've spent the last several weeks getting to know the publishers who offered, and doing an awful lot of thinking about the direction I want to see my career going in, and what I need to do to get there.

It's been interesting, to say the least.

Picking a publisher for a novel is a whole lot like picking a new home. There are so many things to consider... Will you like your neighbors? The community? What people have to say about the community? What are you bringing to the table? Will you fit in?

After a lot of thought, I'm very proud to announce that STRICKEN has officially been acquired by Full Fathom Five. I've been following Full Fathom since the lovely Amanda Black signed The Apartment series, and I'm so excited to be a part of the family. I cannot wait to see what they have in store for Killian and Aubrey and the rest of my angelic crew going forward.

So what happens now?

Well, now we do all those things like revising and editing and editing some more. Once I have additional news, you guys will be the first to know. In the meantime, it's back to work on FLAME. Come hell or high water, this novel WILL be finished by December.

Thanks to all who helped me during the decision making process. You rock!

xoxo,
Ayden

New Release: Diverging Cadence by @KatieTeller1 #romance #newadult

When Cadence Anderson woke to find her husband and infant daughter had been killed, she thought her life was over. Instead, she was offered a second chance and sent back in time to do it all again. She’s made the most of this opportunity, repairing her relationship with the best friend she lost the first time, avoiding the romantic mistakes she made originally, and even bringing her family closer together. But she’s also done something she wasn’t planning on—she’s fallen in love with someone other than her future husband.
Stepping onto a plane and flying across country to attend university is the hardest decision she’s had to make. But unless she follows through with it, her future with Austin might never happen. And what becomes of her beautiful baby if she stays with James, the man she was never supposed to love?
The only thing she knows for certain is that she has to see Austin again, and she’s intent on reliving that part of her previous life exactly like she did the first time. Even if that means she has to lie to James to do it. Because, deep down, she can’t quite bring herself to let him go.
Now, past and future are about to collide, and Cadence has to make her final choice—follow the uncertain path of a life with James, or the one she came back to save . . . with Austin.
In this emotional conclusion to the story that began in Deceptive Cadence, relationships will be tested, identities revealed, and the past will overshadow the future, putting the finishing touches on an unforgettable tale of courage, sacrifice, and, above all, love.

Teaser Tuesday: Rhapsody #teplofiles #romance

Picture Happy Tuesday, loves!

Just two months and one day until Rhapsody releases, so I thought I'd give you another teaser from the story today. We've been discussing cover art this week, and I've been working my ass off trying to get everything edited to my liking. I'm almost satisfied!

I'll see you again when I emerge from the editing cave. Feel free to toss cookies in at me from time to time. :)

***

"Hey, Little Mama," Kincaid said from where he stood by the large window in Jason's office, winking at her when Tristan turned to talk quietly with Liam McGregor and Rico Alvarez about something unrelated to the case. "You're looking good today."

"Um, thanks."

He glanced down at her hand clasped tightly in Tristan's and grinned mischievously. "So… you wanna run away with me?" he leaned in to mock whisper, his smirk making it clear he teased, probably to rile Tristan up.

She felt Tristan tense, but he didn't turn around and tell Kincaid to knock it off.

"Ah… I'm good where I'm at, thanks," she said with an amused shake of her head.

Kincaid gave her a puppy dog look. "You're such a heartbreaker, Little Mama. Getting my hopes up and then dashing them like that." His bottom lip poked out as he placed one hand over his heart. "I'm devastated."

"Sorry," she said, biting back a smile. She'd met a lot of guys like him before—incurable flirts who left a trail of broken hearts along the way. As much as she appreciated all of his help, she had no interest in anyone but Tristan. Besides, guys like Kincaid weren't her type. He looked like he'd be a handful, always into some sort of mischief or trouble. The thought of keeping track of someone like him exhausted her. And truthfully, he intimidated her a little bit. She wasn’t sure if it was all the tattoos or the hardness in his eyes, like maybe he'd experienced more than his share of the violence and brutality some of those tattoos hinted at. He was gorgeous, true enough, but she had a feeling he had more issues than Tristan. She honestly felt a little bad for him, though she wasn’t quite sure why. He just seemed… like so much went on beneath all that ink and colorful vocabulary, more than anyone would ever know. If Tristan was Fort Knox, Kincaid was Area 51.

"Fine," he grumbled good-naturedly. "I guess I won't steal you away from Riley yet. But if you get tired of his surly ass, come find me." He waggled his brows suggestively.

"Fuck off, Kincaid," Tristan muttered, turning from his conversation to glower at his friend. He wrapped his arm around Lillian, tucking her into his side to make it clear she belonged with him. "She's off limits."

"Et tu, Bruté?"

Tristan simply stared at him, his expression implacable.

"You can't blame a guy for trying," Kincaid laughed, sending Lillian another exaggerated wink. "I mean, look at her! She's sexy as fuck. How's a man supposed to resist?"

"Find a way," Tristan growled when Lillian tugged at the hem of her skirt, trying to make it longer to hide her scars as Kincaid's eyes swept down her body. He didn't leer and she knew he wasn't serious, but the attention still unnerved her.

"Cool it, Michael," Jason advised, placing a hand on her upper back as if to offer his protection, too. He didn't quite glower at Kincaid as he stepped up on her other side, towering over her like Tristan did, but he had that hard-ass cop look on his face again. The one that said he wasn't in the mood for bullshit. "I will help him hide your body."

"So it's like that, huh?"

"Yeah," Tristan said so softly his voice barely carried, "it's exactly like that."

Starry Knight by @NinaMasonAuthor #blogtour #romance

Today, we are featuring Starry Knight by Nina Mason, the author of The Queen of Swords and Devil in Duke's Clothing, among other books. Starry Knight is Ms. Mason's fifth novel and the first in a new erotic paranormal/urban fantasy series titled The Knights of Avalon. The series--which combines paranormal and occult elements with Celtic and Arthurian legend--tells the story of four "knights" under the spell of the evil faery queen Morgan Le Fay.
Can these star-crossed lovers bridge two worlds?
British aristocrat Vanessa Bentley has beauty, fame, and fortune, but she gets no respect for her decision to become a paranormal investigator. Determined to prove the naysayers wrong, Vanessa ventures to the misty moors of Caithness, Scotland. There stands the immense Castle Barrogill, where a vampire is rumored to be stalking the dungeons—a vampire Vanessa is determined to find. She’ll just have to get past the resident shape-shifter…
Callum Lyon is the gorgeous reclusive astrologer and faery knight who guards the castle. For free-spirited Vanessa, seducing him proves to be easy. After all, he was once a breeding drone to a Queen. But astrologically, their differences are harder to overcome. Will Vanessa’s mission—and Callum’s secrets—be more than their burgeoning love can take? Or will flesh—and blood—win over the ghosts that haunt them both? ….

Buy it now!
Here's where you can find the trailer on Youtube:

Here's an excerpt:

In this scene, the hero, a centuries-old faery knight whose life has been devoid of romance, is doing his best to woo Lady Vanessa, a free-spirited “poor little rich girl” and paranormal investigator who, unbeknownst to him, is using sex to gain access to his castle. He’s spent the day showing her around Caithness and, in the midst of a sunset stroll on the beach, has suggested they take shelter from the wind in a nearby cave.
Callum got to his feet, took Vanessa’s hand, and pulled her across the dunes toward the cliffs. She couldn’t see the entrance to the cave until he swept back a curtain of vines. She followed him through the narrow entrance, holding tightly to his hand. The interior was cool, dark, and smelled a bit fishy, but not offensively so.
Stepping in front of her, he put a hand on her chin and lifted her gaze to his. The spark between them was palpable and she longed for him to kiss her. She licked her lips invitingly, hoping he’d take the hint.
“You’re very bonny, mo dearbadan-de,” he said softly, seductively, as he brushed back a wayward strand of her hair.
“What did you just call me?”
“My butterfly,” he said, “in Gaelic.”
She put her arms around his neck and offered him her mouth. He accepted, nibbling and flicking his tongue against her lips. She pulled the band from his ponytail, freeing his windblown mane. As it tumbled around his shoulders, she wove her fingers among its silky strands, pressing his mouth harder against hers.
When he offered his tongue, she greeted it with her own. He moaned—a deep, needful sound that dumped accelerant on her desire. She thrust her hips against him, finding him as aroused as she was. He pushed back, grinding against her as he walked her backward toward the wall of the cave. As her back met rough rock, warm fingers came under her blouse, climbed her ribs, and pushed under her bra. As he teased her nipples, something deep in her core turned all soft and molten.
She was air, he fire, and right now, she wanted his light and heat, wanted him to consume her in a crackling blaze.
He broke out of the kiss, moved his mouth to her ear, and nibbled the lobe. She grew weak in the knees as his tongue traced the sensitive inner folds.
“Why do you run away from love, mo dearbadan-de?” he whispered huskily. “Do you see it as a trap?”
“More a fraud than a trap.”
“And sex isn’t?”
“With sex, you know what you’re getting.”
“And when it’s over, you’ve got nothing.”
“How is love different?”
“I don’t know,” he said, “having never felt it.”
“We’re alike in that,” she said, “but from what I’ve observed, it’s a mirage people only chase because they feel incomplete within themselves.”
Taking her face between his hands, he trained her in his riveting gaze. “Do you truly believe that?”
“Yes.”
He let her go, turned his back, and stepped away. For the longest time, he stood there, just out of reach, saying nothing. Then, as suddenly as he’d turned his back, he rounded on her with eyes like yellow coals. “Tell me, Madame Butterfly. Who made you feel so unlovable?”
The question impaled her like a red-hot spike. Damn him for asking it, for digging so deep, for skewering her with his probe. She suddenly felt ridiculous, like some poor little rich girl. She’d been born into wealth and privilege. What right did she have to be unhappy? So what if her parents didn’t love her or she had no true friends.
Boo-fucking-hoo. Get over yourself.
What right did she have to wallow in self-pity when children were starving, people were dying of Ebola, and the planet was being raped on a daily basis? She deserved no compassion, despite the searing wound she did her best to ignore.
“I have no idea what you’re talking about,” she said in a voice that sounded faint and faraway under the blood-thunder in her ears.
“No? Then why have you closed your heart?”
Defiance bubbled in her heart like hot tar. Damn him for trying to get past the battlements she’d spent years erecting hurt by hurt and brick by brick. If anything, she should build her walls higher where this bedeviling baron was concerned, not let him wear them down like rain.
“Did you bring me in here to psychoanalyze me?”
“No,” he whispered, the heat of his breath caressing, soothing. His hand glided purposefully down her body and pushed between her legs. As he stimulated her through her knickers, she threw back her head and expelled a soft sigh—of pleasure and relief. A rapacious lover, she was equal to. A probing one, not so much.
As he stroked her through the satin crotch of her knickers, desire fluttered in her abdomen like an injured bird. He’d struck too close to home. She’d didn’t feel loveable because she’d never felt loved. Not for one single, solitary moment of her entire privileged life. She’d had a chain of nannies who believed children should be seen but not heard before being packed off to boarding school where she was treated with equal detachment. Her parents, in short, had hired others to raise her—no, make that train her. In their eyes, she was a hunk of clay to be molded, not a human being to be nurtured. How disappointed they must have been when they got an outspoken nonconformist in place of the pretty marionette they’d paid for.
Callum’s finger came inside her knickers and began to circle her clitoris, smothering her bitterness in the syrup of pleasure. The orgasm charged and retreated, charged and retreated, and then finally exploded in a heavenly cascade.
Setting his hands on the wall on either side of her head, he docked his forehead against hers and said, “I’d rather chase the mirage than die alone without hope in the desert.”

Here's a little more about the series from the author:

The Knights of Avalon, the four-part erotic PNR/UF series Starry Knight launches, was born of a simple idea: to write a series incorporating different forms of divination. From that kernel grew the far more complex world of the series. The “knights” of Avalon, the enchanted otherworld isle featured in Arthurian and Celtic legend, were Scottish noblemen who, after falling in battle, were taken by the fairies to serve as breeding drones to their queen. Each of the four books in the series tells the story of a particular knight and the heroine whose love saves him from his unhappy existence.
Each knight grapples with a different relationship with Morgan Le Fay, the cruel and selfish queen of Avalon. Callum Lyon, the hero of Starry Knight (book one), is free of Morgan’s influence, having escaped enslavement after faking his own death. Leith MacQuill, the hero of Dark and Stormy Knight (book two), was expelled from Avalon after the queen discovered his amour with one of her scouts. In book three, which I’ve yet to write, Axel Lochlann, a rune-casting Scot of Viking descent, guards the portal between Hitherworld (our realm) and Thitherworld (the otherworldly realm).  The fourth knight, Finn MacKnight, doesn’t know what he is or that he’s destined to fulfill an ancient prophecy telling of the queen’s overthrow by a “natural-born” drone. Because of this prophecy, Morgan kills all the male children she bears and punishes the knights who father them

Avalonian knights are vampire-like, but not vampires per se. Members of the Unseelie Fae, they drink blood and can assume the form of any creature they choose, but generally take the form of a particular animal to hunt. Callum’s preferred form is a lion, Leith’s is a Kellas Cat, Axel’s is a gyrfalcon, and Finn’s is a jaguar.
Astrology is the new-age element featured in Starry Knight (hence the name). Callum, the court astrologer to King James IV, fell in battle in 1513, after warning the king the stars did not favor the invasion of England. Ignoring Callum’s advice proved costly to the king and his astrologer. In modern times, Callum lives in the northernmost county of Scotland as a reclusive political astrologer. The heroine, a free-spirited English aristocrat named Vanessa Bentley, comes to Caithness with the goal of getting inside Barrogill Castle. She’s just finished her training as a paranormal investigator and the London paparazzi have been giving her a hard time. Legend has it a vampire lives at Callum’s castle, so she decides to seduce the gorgeous, golden-haired baron to gain entry to his otherwise inaccessible abode. Needless to say, both get a lot more than hot sex (but also plenty of that!) from the bargain they strike.
Tarot cards, voodoo, ghosts, and the more traditional form of vampire also play roles in the plot. I hope readers enjoy Starry Knight and the rest of the series as much as I have enjoyed writing it!

Here's a little more about the author:
Nina MasonNina Mason is a hopeful romantic with strong affinities for history, mythology, and the metaphysical. She strives to write the same kind of books she loves to read: those that entertain, edify, educate, and enlighten.

She has four books out at present and three more on the way. Her current releases are, in order of publication: The Queen of Swords, a darkly erotic Scottish paranormal romance/urban fantasy; The Tin Man, a political thriller; and Devil in Duke's Clothing and The Duke's Bedeviled Bride, the first two installments in an erotic historical series titled Royal Pains. Book three of Royal Pains will be released in October.

Starry Knight is the first book in a four-part paranormal romance series titled The Knights of Avalon. The series combines Arthurian legend, Celtic mythology, and Scottish history to tell the story of four mortals taken by the faeries after falling in battle. The Knights of Avalon are the breeding drones of the legendary sorceress Morgan Le Fay. Book Two, Dark and Stormy Knight, will be released in January 2016. The series is being published by Lyrical/Kensington.

New Release: Over the Fence by Melanie Moreland #review #romance

Two neighbors—strangers—with one thing in common—they share a fence.

But is that the only thing they share?

Nathan Fraser lives a solitary life, never letting anyone get too close. It’s safer that way.

Kourtney Whyte hides from the world and behind her work, too afraid to really live her life to the fullest. Rejection is what she knows best.

But one night, the sound of her soft voice and the tantalizing aroma of her evening meal, prove too enticing for Nathan to ignore.

So begins their unconventional relationship—talking, learning, texting, and gradually opening up to one another, all over the fence.

That is, until the day Nathan braves the high fence to protect Kourtney from her past, and changes everything forever.

Can they move forward together, without the buffer of the fence?

Or will their pasts prove to be too much of a barrier?

My Review

I was fortunate enough to get to read Over the Fence for Melanie a couple of months ago, and I still want to kiss Melanie for giving me that honor.

When Kourtney Whyte moves in next to Nathan Fraser, he expects the same old, same old. What he gets is a neighbor with a penchant for cooking, and one of the sweetest laughs he's ever heard. And luckily for him, Kourtney's willing to take pity on a cooking-challenged bachelor and feed him.

What starts as a simple kindness between two neighbors quickly turns into the highlight of Nathan's day. He lives for conversations shared through the slats of the fence. The only problem? He's dying to meet his neighbor face to face, but she seems content with things just the way they are. Until a part of her past comes back to haunt her.

When Kourtney is cornered by the jerk (who needs to be eaten by lions), Nathan leaps to her defense, stepping over the fence for the first time. What he finds in Kourtney is more than he ever dreamed. She's beautiful, talented, sweet, and so kind. But Kourtney has had a lifetime of sorrow, and her insecurities are not easily overcome.

Nathan makes it his mission in life to teach her just how beautiful she is. And then she learns the truth about Nathan's dark past, forcing her and Nathan both to confront their demons and decide whether they're able to move forward together.

From page one, I loved Nathan and his Chefgirl. Nathan is such a sweetheart - and a total bachelor. He eats questionable leftover food, forgets to grocery shop, and has a pitiful excuse for a yard. But he's hardworking, loyal, and his attraction to his mysterious neighbor brings out the funny guy in him. He's so easy to like!

And so is Kourtney. She's fragile, having been taken advantage of and tormented by those who should have protected her. Until Nathan, she never really had anyone to tell her how important she is and how much she has to offer the world. She struggles to believe him, but with his help, she begins to break free of the prison of her past.

There was nothing I didn't like about this novel... except maybe for the fact that the jerk didn't get eaten by lions. I was really cheering for lions to devour him. But Kourtney didn't really need lions to put him in his place anyway. She has Nathan for that, and I love how much he loves her.

Over the Fence is bittersweet, beautiful, and laugh-out-loud funny all at once.

5/5 Stars.

Teaser Tuesday: Rhapsody (Teplo Trilogy #2) #romance #erotica

Picture Happy Tuesday, loves!

I have another littler teaser from Rhapsody for you this week. I'm knee deep in revisions on this one, and can't wait to finish!

If you haven't already heard, Rhapsody will release sometime in October in print and digital formats. I'll share more details on all of that later.

Enjoy the teaser!
***************************************************************************************************************************

As if thinking about her had summoned her, Lillian made her way into the kitchen, wearing nothing but one of his button-downs and a sleepy smile on her face. Her hair was a mess, and her lips were still swollen from his kisses the night before. Her face was flushed. Faint red marks dotted her skin where he'd marked her.

"Hey," he whispered to her.

She didn't hesitate before walking straight to him.

His arms went around her, gathering her close as that same strange twisting sensation hit him right in the heart. She rested her head against his chest, sighing her contentment. She felt so good in his arms, warm and soft. He pressed his lips to her forehead, breathing her in. She smelled like sin – like him and her and lilac.

"How'd you sleep, baby?" he asked.

"Good. I always sleep so well with you."

"Good." A pleased rumble started in his chest. He pressed his lips to her forehead again, and then her temple. "I like having you in my arms."

"Me too."

Jason cleared his throat, reminding Tristan he was still on the line. "I'll let you go, man. See you tonight."

"Yeah, later." Tristan set his phone on the counter and tilted Lillian's face up to his, kissing her deeply. She tasted like mint and sugar, so sweet. When they were both breathing heavily, he broke the kiss and led her to the kitchen table before settling her into a chair.

Her blush deepened as her eyes flickered to the table and then back to him, no doubt remembering what they'd done there a few short hours ago.

He couldn't help the smile tugging at the corners of his lips as he remembered too. The feel of her gripping him, the way she cried out for him, gasping that she loved him. The look in her eye when she'd demanded he take her…. Christ, he'd never get enough of her.

"You hungry?" he asked, backing away before he lifted her up onto the tabletop and had her for breakfast.

"Starving," she whispered, desire turning her eyes to hazel flames.

"Behave," he growled, swiping his thumb across her bottom lip, "or I'll bend you over the table and make you scream my name again."

Teaser Tuesday: Stricken (The War Scrolls) #newadult #romance #fantasy

Picture Last Wednesday, I participated in #pit2pub on Twitter with Stricken . I was beyond excited to receive ten requests for the novel during the pitch party, and have spent quite a bit of time since preparing submissions to individual publisher guidelines to fulfill the requests.

Since I've spent so much time with the story recently, I thought I'd share a small teaser this week. This is one of my favorite stories. There's romance, there's science, there's mythology, there's angels and demons and things that go bump in the night. There's little kitten, Zee. There's Aubrey. And then there's Killian and his brothers, fierce angelic warriors on a mission.

I hope you enjoy the teaser! Maybe I'll have news for you soon. :) And don't forget, you can now get Call Your Name, an erotic novella, at major online retailers.

"Veggie burger?" Aubrey asked, swallowing.

"Yeah." Killian popped the top of his soda can and took a long drink. "We don't eat meat."

She paused with her burger halfway to her mouth. "Do you mean angels in general or your family?"

"Angels."

"Oh." Aubrey took another bite, chewing thoughtfully. "Why not?" she asked.

Killian arched a brow.

"I'm not trying to be rude," she hurried to explain. "I'm just curious. Is it a religious thing?"

"No, it's not a religious thing. It's a practicality thing." The corners of his mouth tilted up into a smile again. His blue eyes lightened. "There was no slaughter house in heaven." He took a big bite of his burger, watching her.

"Oh." Aubrey shook her head, unsure what to make of that. "What are they like? Angels, I mean."

Killian swallowed. "They're unyielding, stubborn. Most of the Seraphim – the Dominion – act as if they're wingless and stuck on earth by choice." He scowled, his blue eyes seeming to catch fire. "They're a bunch of bastards for the most part."

Aubrey felt her eyes widen. He sounded so… bitter.

"You asked," he pointed out when she continued to stare at him, at a loss for words.

"Did God really tear out their wings?"

"Yes. No angel cast from Heaven or their offspring has wings."

"Oh."

Killian took another big bite of his burger.

"Do you live with them?" she asked.

"Sometimes."

"But you don't like them?"

"As a collective? No, I don't."

"Aren't your brothers full-blooded angels?"

"They are." Killian bit into his burger again. "But Abriel and Dahmiel were born here.  They've never stepped foot in Heaven. They fight to protect your people because it's the right thing to do."

"And the others don't?"

"Some do, but most of those who fell fear Heaven. They believe once they've suffered for their sins long enough, Heaven will take them back."

"What about you?" Aubrey asked. "What do you believe?"

"Me?" Killian stared off into space for a long, silent moment while Aubrey ate her fries. "I believe they're fools," he said then, clearing his throat. "Heaven will never forgive the Fallen for the damage they've caused, and will never welcome them back. God is not merciful, especially not to those who defy Him."

"Then why do you fight beside them?"

Killian pursed his lips. "My mother was human, and Heaven stopped sending warriors to defend this world long ago, but the Fallen remain. Despite their faults, they keep your people from being overrun by Hell because they believe this world is worth saving. They believe your people, people like my mother, are more than souls to be used up in the final battle and spit out."

"Oh."

Is that how God viewed humans? As nothing more than a means to an end?

Aubrey didn't believe that. She wasn't sure what she believed, exactly, but she wasn't as cynical as Killian. God hadn't abandoned humanity to its fate. He wouldn't.
