Poem

In The Hammock

Just me and my brain,

floating in the hammock…

suspended.

Movement made by breaths,

thoughts by neurons

flitting through the

labyrinth

of light and dark.

Shapes float and swirlswirl

through words of little sense.

Kaleidoscopic patterns

bring with them

philosophical thoughts.

Maybe something

worthwhile, but

not within my grasp.yik4paMeT

My three year old granddaughter

joins me.

Brain waves intersect.

I sigh and relax the muscles

of my head

my eyes

my cheeks.

Images pierce the

gray tones and suddenlybutterflies

I see purple and pink butterflies,

blue and orange animals,

untethered unicorns,

rainbows and dinosaurs

colliding with my

incessant brain chatter.

They slay the thoughts.

I pull her closer to me

and together we

experience

the lovely purity

of slowly sliding into blissful

and forgetful

sleep.

My grandchildren are my inspiration!

I want to write books that will be read and enjoyed by my grandchildren and to children the world over. I have always loved books and some of my most memorable times as a child were when my dad or mom read to me. My dad would read the stories as if he were the voice of the character. I can still hear the voices of Brer Rabbit and Brer Bear as they got themselves into and out of trouble.   20140905_090035[1]   And the technique of reverse psychology was one I used many times with my kids (until they were old enough to not be fooled)!

When we read to our kids, grandkids, or any children…

let’s read with enthusiasm. Let’s impart the feelings of characters and the story, not just read the words.  Not only will we enjoy reading to the children more, but our little listeners will hear the stories, over and over in their heads, many, many years later.

Welcome to AroSage Publishing!

I am a grandma who just published her first book: The Big Brass Band. In collaboration with the talented illustrator, Jessica Ziegler, I have fulfilled a long-held dream of publishing my long list of children’s books. I will soon have my second book to share with the world.

Do you love to write?                               Writing

Or is it something you would like to do?

I have created this website to encourage others to write, publish, and share. What are the stories you think about writing?  Do you have stories about your kids, grandkids or any little tykes you interact with? Do you come up with ideas for children’s stories and books but don’t know how to get them down on paper? What stops you from writing? Let’s talk!

Little by little, you will hear my story. The ups and downs and ins and outs and what to do and what not to do. I hope my experience will encourage you to write and to help you through the self-publishing hurdles. If I can do it…you certainly can!
