Citizens Bank of Kansas, Wichita

The best buildings in Kansas seem to have absorbed a lot of Frank L Wright influence, especially the way they use the local stone, which is think a limestone, often tawny-colored. There are many long lean prairie-style houses and commercial buildings dating I think from the 50s and 60s.This bank isn't exactly prairie-style, and its quite recent, but I think it's an admirable building. I like the use of neon, as well.

I-H Scout as wedding limo

from Jody Rhone, in Crested Butte CO:
"Have been enjoying your Auto-literate immensely over the last few months.
My partner Tom and I were married a month ago (on our 20th anniversary) and exited in style in the Scout, see photos below." --JR

Kate Northrop poem, "The Man on My Roof"

The Man on my Roof--                                    (early in the morning)

Hey, my neighbor calls up, Hey Man!  His voiceMakes straight for the roof--
But who squats on my roof, armsAround his knees, stares at the roof
Like a boy in a small field, lighting a fire.
.

And however the early sunlightCovers my bungalow    with streets, pollen, shrubs
The police arrive directly, arranging themselvesAround the dream of the squad car.  Let’s quitDicking around,   someone says.
The man lifts his head.
He shakes his head, a little sadlyAnd holds one hand up, like someoneWho is sorry, he must interrupt--
But he won’t look at us, as the sunRises beyond us
And horns & stereos also rise   until whoosh,The morning’s kaput and day assembles
Into sheet music, storefronts.  (The world you know
Will not meet, although the slanted rooftopsFlash, immediately in the light.  Gleaming,

They darken, I’m telling you, like large sea-rocks.)
-Kate Northrop

1957 Chevrolet Bel Air

Never thought I'd post a '57 Bel Air, they're about as rare as silver or taupe Toyota Sequoias. But this one caught my eye in Kansas, and looks like it might want to go fast.
