Volvo 240 wagon on the block
This unit is on the block today at BaT. You know that, here at AL, we do tend to go on about the wonderfulness of Volvo wagons. There's our beloved 220k-mile 850, and then there are the workhorse 240 wagons still spotted every now and then on the streets of Cambridge MA. And then, in a class by itself, there's this P-210.

Birds of a Feather: 1966 and 1965 Ford Thunderbirds
AL found this '66 Bird in Blue Hill, Maine last week, and Alex Emond caught the '65 in Swift Current , Saskatchewan. And here's another T'bird (we called it a '66) posted from Arundel, Maine this summer. And a 1963 Thunderbird from the Bay Area.

1956 Ford C500 COE: A Beautiful Kind of Ugly
From Alex Emond: Tucked away in Swift Current, Saskatchewan. The fence makes it hard to get good all round shots . Pretty good shape , considering its age . So few of these beasts left. Nice high vantage point for the drive. A beautiful kind of ugly. I'd like to stick a little vintage trailer on the chassis and head off into the sunset. AL: We want to ride it through Harvard Square and down Brattle St., herding Teslae. We've posted another Ford COE, same era, in the Nevada desert. And a Chevy C500 that got radicalized by the Pacheco Bros., out there in Trementina, NM. Dry is good for these trucks.

Maybe the truckest truck in the history of trucks? Advanced Design Era 1952 Chevrolet 3100. This specimen on the block today, at BaT.

1968 Ford Fairlane
from Jonathan Welsh: "Ms. Phillips, my third-grade teacher, drove a Fairlane just like this. Similar cars seemed to be everywhere when I was growing up. Ford sold hundreds of thousands of them in a range of body styles. Collectors have traditionally sought the flashier convertibles and fastback coupes but bread-and-butter sedans are gaining popularity because of demographic and cultural shifts in the market. This clean example has been parked at a Montclair, N.J., train station with a for-sale sign for weeks. Price too high?"AL posted a '58 Fairlane Here's another '58 Skyliner. Not a handsome Ford year. Also a plug-ugly year for some of GM, come to think of it–the '58 Chevy was fine, the Buick was a Belchfire.
The '59 Fairlane was something else, though.

William Eggleston & The Black Keys
from Alex Emond, somewhere between SW Saskatchewan and Banff. "The newest effort from The Black Keys features a William Eggleston image. The album title is also the name of the documented roadside "dairy bar" . It's a good album, best played loud enough for your neighbours to enjoy too. Here's one song."https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JXZBqgaIjYs

1953 Pontiac Chieftain
from Jonathan Welsh: "Chrome, curves and two-tone with turquoise -- it must be the early 1950s. Despite such color splashes, many folks consider this a boring period for Detroit car design. To be fair, though, one should consider the time line. For years after World War II, drivers were stuck with warmed-over 1942 models while carmakers retooled and reorganized after wartime production. So this Chieftain must have seemed fresh compared with the Streamliner it succeeded. This one, for sale in Westfield, N.J., also hints at a trend. See those modest tailfins? They would soar over the top by decade's end."AL: We posted a 1953 Chevrolet 210 this past summer. And a 1954 Chevrolet Bel Air a while back.

1970 Cadillac DeVille
from Reid Cunningham, in Philadelphia: "In a neighborhood that looks to be undergoing a slow gentrification, a 1970 (my best guess) Cadillac DeVille Convertible. Living behind a chain link fence has probably preserved it better than expected. The 472 under the hood would likely deliver single digit mileage, a bit heart stopping in view of global warming, but it would still bring a smile to see this one back on the road."
