VW Transporter Pickup. Marfa, Texas

From Don Culbertson, in West Texas:  "It might not have super high clearance, it might not be able to cross a raging river in four-wheel-drive, but it is the most beautiful pickup truck in all of Marfa. This is owned by a person who does landscaping, and is their work tool. Another pickup- themed truck that I am crazy about is the Land Rover Series pickup truck which comes in several different formats, pictures of that will be forthcoming as I spot some. "

AL: have a look at Bill Thomas' matched set of 1985 VW Transporters.

1952 Plymouth Suburban, etc.

Aidan O'Neill offered us these photos from the family archive. All taken in Québec, whose license plates used to proclaim it as La belle province for reasons that seem obvious to anyone who has traveled the Cote Nord, the Gaspé, the Pontiac, the Eastern Townships . One of these was for sale a while back on station wagon finder.

AL has not been able to identify the (grey) car, below. Any ideas?
But that's a 1956 Ford Country Squire, waiting at Tadoussac, Quebec for the ferry across the Saguenay River.

Benz in the Barn: Another Morning in Maine

Look what Basha Burwell came across, tucked away up in Maine. You might call them barn finds except they probably never were lost. Let's call the above a 1940 Chevrolet 3/4 ton pickup of the Wurlitzer era. And let's call the maroon thing a 1949 Mercedes-Benz 170. The most spectacular Benz we've posted lately was this 1954 Mercedes-Benz 220 Cabriolet. And our favorite Chevy of this era was maybe this one in Colorado Springs.
And the other Benz...let's say a 1969 Mercedes-Benz 280? Kissing cousin with the 1972 Mercedes-Benz 280 we posted a while back.

Peugeot 205

From Don Culbertson in la France profonde : "Many rolling treasures can be found in the French countryside where public transportation is sparse and more people drive and have cars. This Peugeot 205 is a people's car."AL: here's a Peugeot 504 Don spotted for us in Paris a while back. And how about this 1930s Peugeot MK truck? And speaking of Peugeot, try our "Problems in Contemporary Design" quiz.

1948 Plymouth De Luxe

From Reid Cunningham: "This made me think of the Plymouth I sent you this spring that was part of a collection in North Carolina.  This was in in Franklin, NH, at the same used-car lot as the VW Beetle.  Even at the low asking price, it's hard to see the economics of getting this on the road, given it will never be worth a lot, as a 1940's sedan.  Still, I love the clipper emblems and the earnestness of the 40's design."AL: we posted '53 Plymouth De Luxe from Saskatchewan. Then there's Jim Christy's poem about a '39 Plymouth. And a Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge of the era we saw in Maine. Then this epic survivor, a 1940 DodgeAnd BTW there is a '39 Plymouth de Luxe on the block this week at Hemmings.

1974 Volkswagen Beetle

From Reid Cunningham in Franklin, NH.  'This was located at a small buy-here/pay-here used car lot on the edge of town. Except for an old Plymouth, everything else was at least 40 years newer.  The last registration sticker ran out April 2021, so it hopefully shouldn't need to much to get it back to running condition. Nothing says mid 70's like massive bumpers sticking so far out!"AL: Did you see the Karmann-Ghia we posted a while back? There was of course a Beetle in the Automania show at MOMA last year. We've seen this pristine Type 1 bus around Cambridge. We'll be posting a 1960s Bug from Deer Isle, Maine later this week.

1980 International Harvester Scout II. Blue Hill, Maine.

AL caught the Scout in Blue Hill, Maine. It was wearing dealer plates...we did a little looking and found the little beast is for sale at Stanley Subaru  in Ellsworth, Maine. Looks like it has a hardtop as well. We posted one of these--a Scout II Rallye model--from NJ a while back. And another 1980 Scout II in Portland, Maine--a diesel-- a while back. And this Scout II in Cambridge. Here's an original I-H Scout in need of rescue. And one of our favorites: this original I-H Scout 800 in Colorado Springs.
