#8SUNDAY Weekend Writing Warrior Post
Hi friends, welcome back to my page. I had a fabulous road trip to New York last weekend, but so glad to be back home now! In spite of all the fun, there is just no place like home.
Anyhow, welcome back to my fabulous web page. A place where writers come to converse with one another and I use as my magical doorway to step into my writing friends imaginary worlds for WEEKEND WRITING WARRIORS! (Did you read that with a wrestling announcers voice? That’s what I was going for.)
Wondering who we are? I’m glad you asked.
~We are a fabulous group of individuals that posts 8-10 sentences on their blogs from a published or unpublished book. Then we “hop” around and leave comments on each other’s snippets. We welcome EVERYONE’s comments.~
Here’s my bit, let me know what you think. ;) (This one’s not out yet, still plugging away at it.)

“You know damn well what family I’m talking about!” Favian screamed. “Esperanza is still my wife.”
That did it, I had to come forward. I walked to the gate and stood next to Sebastian, despite him holding up his hand as I approached.
“Go back to the house Esperanza.” Sebastian said.
“No, I’m not going to standby and listen to this man leave a lasting impression on my family.” I said, leaning toward the fence and eyeing Favian. “My family, you’re not my family Favian they are!”

I resisted the temptation to confront Favian, stepping closer and closer at the side of the bushes to get a better view of the two of them arguing.
“I know the name of my daughter.” Favian yelled, clinging to the bars of the fence as if he was trying to break through. “What kind of animal do you take me for?”
“What kind of animal don’t I take you for?” Sebastian responded calmly.
“Sebastian Valencia, I will kill you if you ever insinuate that I don’t care about my family again.” Favian said loudly.
“Family, you must be high! ” Sebastian responded.

Weekend Writing Warriors #8SUNDAY
Ok guys! Let me explain the late responses last week! I was in EMD training for three days followed by a test!!! Eek!!! Hoping I passed. I don’t find out for a while. It’s on a scan-tron and has to be graded by the proper authorities. That training completely wiped me out. First off, I had to drive far away for it during rush hour traffic, that in itself was a nightmare!!! Second, I’m not used to sitting in a classroom for eight hours a day anymore! Ugh!!!

“Of course I know what my baby’s name is.” Favian fired back from the top of his lungs. “It’s Adriana!”
I peeked around the corner just in time to see the guards step toward Favian to shut him up. Favian stood there before them looking a mess. His body looked as if it had deteriorated, he was so skinny that his face bore the early signs of aging, craters implanted to the sides of his cheeks and it looked as though he hadn’t slept in days.
“How did you find that out?” Sebastian asked quietly, he had always been good at keeping his cool. “Did you see her name on the paperwork my sister sent?”
I resisted the temptation to confront Favian, stepping closer and closer at the side of the bushes to get a better view of the two of them arguing.

Weekend Writing Warriors- The first August post!!! (Though I’m actually posting in July.) #Esperanza
What’s new friends?? I set a new goal for myself for the month and that is going to be to get this story wrapped up and published. Fingers crossed that my brain works with me, huh?

I tried my best to make out what Favian was saying, as he and Sebastian argued in the distance, glancing back as Gabrielle took a seat inside the house as she sat with Liliana and nodded at my sister so that she would keep an eye on her. Liliana shook her head but then motioned for me to go, obviously upset with my need to put myself in an awkward position.
I turned and scaled the bricks of the house, walking as close to the front as I could without being seen.
“Who does she think she is?” I heard Favian scream. “She’s not leaving Colombia with without a fight. Especially not with my baby, you can tell her I said that.”
“Your baby?” Sebastian questioned him calmly. “Where were you for the last year while my parents were raising her? Do you even know what your baby’s name is?”

#8SUNDAY Weekend Writing Warriors- July 26th sneak peak/installment of “Esperanza”
Hi friends! Nothing too new going on. I’ve been taking advantage of the last few days of my kids summer break with them, enjoying the outdoors and what not. They go back to school the first week of August! Can you believe that? Growing up in Chicago, I remember we went back the second week of September, sometimes later depending if the teachers went on strike.

It was early Monday morning when a car pulled up to the front gate. Sebastian had just come over to have breakfast with us one last time before I headed back to the United States. Chills went through my body the moment I realized who it was. I could hear Favian’s loud voice shouting at the guards, which worried me because I had overheard Antonio telling my sister that Favian was in jail, just a few night before.
“Why don’t you guys go inside?” I immediately asked Liliana motioning at Gabrielle and Adriana.
Liliana nodded, but gave me a worried look. Sebastian immediately rushed to the gate.
“Leave it for your brother to handle.” My sister whispered to me as she picked up the baby and headed inside with Gabrielle following closely behind her.

The moment Gabrielle set eyes on Adriana, I knew there was no turning back. The two were inseparable. I smiled as I watched Gabrielle pushing Adriana on a swing at the side of the house.
“Isn’t that the cutest thing?” I asked my sister as we sat down for tea on the patio.
Liliana attempted a smile as she stared at me for a moment without saying anything, making me extremely nervous. By the way she studied my expression, I felt like she was looking into my soul.
“She doesn’t know, does she?” Liliana asked suddenly. “Have you told anyone that Adriana is actually your baby?”

Weekend Writing Warriors Post #8SUNDAY Esperanza
Hey friends! Thanks for coming by. This past week has been one of new experiences for me. I received my first homicide call, which was really scary. It shook me a bit, but it has definitely made me appreciate life that much more. I haven’t really had a chance to get too much writing done this week, so next week that will have to be one of my major priorities.
Now, let’s get down to business with this weeks Weekend Writing Warrior post.

The moment we got off the airplane, I saw my sister standing by herself at the gateway. I was so surprised to see her their alone that my heart skipped a beat as Gabrielle and I approached her.
“Mucho gusto.” Liliana said, extending her hand to Gabrielle before I could introduce her.
Gabrielle raised her eyebrows and extended her hand to great my sister, nodding her head as if to say the same.
“She doesn’t speak Spanish.” I muttered.
“Yo lo comprendo.” Gabrielle said quietly, turning to me. “My mother is Puerto Rican, I can speak fluently.”

“Listen Esperanza.” Tylen said without blinking. “I can understand how you feel. I mean you were practically raised as an orphan. If your sister and her husband didn’t step in and take you in, your life would have been much different. I understand that you’re appreciative of that and want to do what you feel is right for your cousins daughter.”
I stared at him, wondering if it was possible that I knew where he was going with this.
“I realize how strongly you must feel about this.” Tylen continued. “You didn’t question me when I brought my own children to live with us and you’ve done nothing but treat Gabrielle and John as if they were your own, I was wrong for what I said last night.

#8SUNDAY Weekend Writing Warriors Post-Esperanza Side Note #LOVE WINS
Good day my friends. This past week has definitely been eventful. Let me start this weeks post by stating that I fully support my Gay/Lesbian friends right to marry one another legally. I truly believe that this is a turning point for America and am proud to say that this is something that God has blessed me the ability to witness in my lifetime. I’m hoping that no one sees this statement as offensive, but if they do, this is my opinion and I’m entitled to that.
Getting down to business let’s switch over to what you really came here for and turn it over to my Weekend Writing Warrior snippet.
We are a fabulous group of individuals that posts 8-10 sentences on their blogs from a published or unpublished book. Then we “hop” around and leave comments on each other’s snippets. We welcome EVERYONE’s comments.
Now for my snippet:
**********************************************************************************
Just as I walked into the hallway I caught a glimpse of Gabrielle going into Micah’s room and lifting him from his crib. As I walked toward the room and stood staring at her from the doorway she looked up at me, her caramel colored skin glowing from the nightlight that sat directly behind her in the rocking chair.
“I want to practice for when you bring my sister home.” Gabrielle said.
My heart filled with regret immediately. What would happen if Tylen ever found out that Adriana was actually mine? Our family would be torn apart and Gabrielle would suffer enormously if she became attached to Adriana. Early in Tylen and my relationship I remembered wishing with all of my heart that Gabrielle would open up to me and accept me as a stepmother, but until now Gabrielle had kept her distance. Now that it was finally happening I didn’t know how I felt about it. There was no turning back if I didn’t end the lie now there would be more people who I loved devastated by my deception in the future.
