2020-2021 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: Master's schiavo
Master's schiavo by Laura Lascarso
At first, I was feeling sort of iffy about this story. Fortunately, the more I read the more I became sucked into it. I loved the dynamic of the characters, especially the care and tenderness Master's brother Silvio offers, and the sternness but compassionate acts Master gives Gio. This story also broke my heart with what happened to Master at the end. But at least it ends with Gio having Silvio and not alone and lost. The story is a mixture of satisfaction, heartbreak, full of emotion, and so much love. A well-written story that, after a couple of chapters, kept me up all night because I couldn't put it down. Well done!

This book is capturing and has great energy. I was lured in by the relationships, uplifted by her actions for good and refreshed by her positive thinking. I personally loved the music references.

2020-2021 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: The Yakuza Path (Flowers of Flesh and Blood)
The Yakuza Path (Flowers of Flesh and Blood) by Amy Tasukada
This unusual novel includes the brutality and harsh reality prevalent in yakuza movies and stories. The twists and turns of the plot make its cat-and-mouse qualities stand out and highlight the differences between the two protagonists. Very intriguing for the Western reader.

2020-2021 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: Last Romance
Last Romance by Matt Burlingame
A poignant story of a man faced with only 6 months to live and the desire to make those months more fulfilling that his previously ordered and workaday life. Despite the dark reality pf the story, the author has managed to fill it with characters who can still see the humorous side of life, who still want adventure and who still want love. HIghly recommended.

2020-2021 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: Dead Sea (Mia Kerick Story Ballads #2)
Dead Sea (Mia Kerick Story Ballads #2) by Mia Kerick
I loved this story. The descriptions of setting and the emotionally charged atmosphere set up the storyline immediately. Lenny and Kyle are both very human characters, who are each other’s Dead Sea, as they won’t let each other sink either physically or emotionally. I like how they both grow as people, and find the courage to be true to themselves. The side characters are wonderfully drawn and a huge part of the story too.

2020-2021 Rainbow Awards Honorable Mention: Monarch (Claire Lance #6)
Monarch (Claire Lance #6) by Geonn Cannon
The writing is very visual. Although a later part of a series, the book can be easily read as a stand-alone. This is – for a thriller – a bit tame, no “knucklebiter”, but rather predictable. The inner struggles of Claire are convincing, I loved Jodie’s great deed – go get them!
