#indie9giveaway – An Indie Author Epic Book Giveaway
The Indie 9 GiveawayI’m so excited to be one of the nine indie authors participating in the Indie 9 Giveaway! For eight (8) weeks, nine (9) authors, including myself, are supporting each other in a cross promotion of each other’s novels. What does this mean? It means that there are seventy-two (72) total chances to WIN an autographed paperback or eBook of our novels! Each author will be promoting the other seven for an entire week, allowing you, the reader, a chance to enter each week for the chance to WIN!
I’ll be posted across all my social media each week which author and book I’m giving away, so be sure to stay connected. Each week I’ll be posting a blog specifically about the book I’m giving away for the week, which will include author and book details.

Urban Homestead Hootenanny
I wanted to share a small treasure I’ve discovered hidden away in the downtown Pasadena, CA suburbs. It’s called the Urban Homestead. The Dervaes family has transformed a fifth of an acre parcel of land into a self-sustaining, organic farm that supplies several of the local restaurants with the highest quality food available on the market anywhere.
As if this isn’t amazing enough for a tiny piece of land surrounded by concrete suburbs, the Dervaes family didn’t stop there. They’ve created the Urban Homestead Hootenanny every Sunday night that features local, regional and international musicians playing live and streaming to the internet where their considerable online community awaits each performance eagerly. Members of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the keyboardist for Al Jarreau, jazz prodigy Christopher Astoquillca, and many more world renowned artists have graced the tiny stage at the Urban Homestead Hootenanny, not to mention up and coming local and regional artists who make regular appearances. Many local artists are touring professionals also, but come to the Hootenanny for the relaxed, encouraging and fun energy each event produces.
Host, Duane Thorin, is an impressive talent in his own right as a vocalist and original song writer, but feels comfortable directing the evening by introducing each artist, sitting in the audience singing along or picking up the slack by performing amazing remakes of old songs or his own originals in between each performer. The Urban Homestead Hootenanny was Duane’s brainchild from the beginning. He doesn’t just encourage the audience to sing along and have fun. Duane regularly invites other performers to take the stage with him and other performers simply for the fun of it. The moments are inspired and take on a supernatural beauty of their own that only live performances will ever allow. Duane’s ability to perform as the Master of Ceremonies for these seemingly unorganized concerts is masterful and transparent.
Most people reading this know that I’m the author of the new, exciting romance, The Harem, that has so many people talking about it and building a considerable buzz. What you may not know is that I started as a professional musician first; writing, recording and performing original material, a number one downloaded song on MP3.com and many regional hits, and cover material. I mention this to emphasize the miracle that occurs each Sunday night when the Urban Homestead hosts it’s Hootenanny. My experience with performers, venues, material and live events is extensive and I’ve rarely seen such an incredible transformation of audience and performer as that which occurs at each Hootenanny. Magic is real and the Urban Homestead has cast a very effective spell on the world.
If you can, be sure to attend the next Hootenanny. If you live too far away, fly in. If you can’t afford to fly in, subscribe to the Urban Homestead Hootenanny Youtube Channel and watch the live stream and review all the previous Hootenannies. Be sure to come hungry, because all the food served at the Urban Homestead restaurant is grown on the premises and is gloriously delicious. It’s the same food supplying five star restaurants in the Pasadena area, so save room for dessert.
I’m one of the regular performers now too because it’s so much fun, so maybe you’ll get to meet me in person. If you bring a copy of The Harem to a Hootenanny, I’ll even sign it for you before you leave.
Many people look back on history and wonder what it was like to be there, especially in music and entertainment. The Urban Homestead Hootenanny is creating a very hip music scene in the suburbs of Pasadena, CA that reaches out globally thanks to the internet. I expect that soon you’ll have to call to reserve seats months in advance simply because of all the international visitors that will be attending the Sunday concerts, so don’t wait until it’s exclusive invite only. Attend an Urban Homestead Hootenanny right away and feel the incredible power flow through you in person. Only then will you be able to say, “I was there when it all began!”

We’re on Pinterest! Are you?
Before The Harem was published and was still in the process of being written, my wife and I started a Pinterest page. We started it to get inspired by all of the wonderful images fellow Pinners posted and used some of those images as inspiration while envisioning and writing The Harem. Now, we’ve got a variety of Pin Boards that do more than just promote The Harem and shout out thanks to all of our readers for their awesome reviews. We have a dream that one day The Harem will hit the big screen – you heard us right – the MOVIES. Check out what we’ve got! More items are posted weekly.

The Harem was Featured in the Sunday, February 8th printing of the Pasadena Star News
We are excited to share with all of our fans that The Harem was featured in the Sunday, February 8, 2015 edition of the Pasadena Star News Spotlight Section under Books by Michelle Mills from the Los Angeles News Group (LANG).
Two other books and authors were featured as well. “More Love, Less Panic: 7 Lessons I Learned About Life, Love and Parenting After We Adopted Our Son From Ethiopia” by Claude Knobler and “Sick Simon” by Dan Krall.
