This bi-annual event was first organized by author Colleen Houck to give readers a chance to gain access to exclusive bonus material from their favorite authors…and a chance to win some awesome prizes in a scavenger hunt!

You not only get access to exclusive content from each author, you also get a clue for the hunt. Add up the clues and you can enter for our prize–one lucky winner will receive one book from every author on my team! But play fast: this contest (and all the exclusive bonus material) will only be online till Sunday!

Go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page to find out all about the hunt. There are SEVEN contests going on simultaneously, and you can enter one or all!

I’m on the BLUE TEAM but there are also teams of six other colors. Enter them all to win different sets of books!

If you’d like to find out more about the hunt, see links to all the authors participating, and see the full list of prizes up for grabs, go to the YA Scavenger Hunt page.

HOW TO PLAY

Directions: Somewhere below, you’ll notice that I’ve listed my secret number. Collect the secret numbers of all the authors on the BLUE TEAM, and then add them up.

Entry Form: Once you’ve added up all the numbers, make sure you fill out the form here to officially qualify for the grand prize. Only entries that have the correct number will qualify.

Rules: Open internationally, anyone below the age of 18 should have a parent or guardian’s permission to enter. To be eligible for the grand prize, you must submit the completed entry form by Sunday, October 8th, at noon Pacific Time. Entries sent without the correct number or without contact information will not be considered.

HOSTED AUTHOR!
Today, I am hosting Gina Ciocca for the YA Scavenger Hunt! Gina graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in English, but in her mind, she never left high school. She relocated from Connecticut to Georgia in 2013, where she lives with her husband and son. When she’s not reading, you can find her taking long walks around the lake in her neighborhood.

For the YA Scavenger Hunt, Gina is showcasing her novel, BUSTED.

Marisa never planned to be a snoop for hire. It wasn’t like she wanted to catch her best friend’s boyfriend making out with another girl. But as her reputation for sniffing out cheaters spreads all over school, Marisa finds herself the reluctant queen of busting two-timing boys.

Learn more about Gina and her books at http://writersblog-gina.blogspot.com/ or buy her book HERE.

EXCLUSIVE CONTENT

Welcome to the Fall 2017 YA Scavenger Hunt, and to BUSTED: Behind the Scenes!

BUSTED (1-2-18, Sourcebooks Fire) is my second novel, the middle sibling to LAST YEAR’S MISTAKE (Simon Pulse, 2015) and A KISS IN THE DARK (Simon Pulse, March 2018). It’s a super-fun, Veronica-Mars-meets-Ten-Things-I-Hate-About-You story of Marisa, a girl who unwittingly becomes the go-to spy for catching cheating boyfriends at her high school. But things take an unexpected twist when Marisa finds herself falling for TJ, one of the boys she’s supposed to be busting.

Setting was a very important part of this story, since Marisa spends a lot of time spying on TJ at his family’s Christmas tree farm. Marisa refers to the farm, called Maple Acres, as Narnia – which is what I used to call Maple Row, the tree farm in Connecticut that inspired Maple Acres. It’s also the place where my husband and I used to cut down our Christmas tree every year before we moved to Georgia.

[image error][image error]

Marisa and TJ have a shared interest: making jewelry. Marisa creates beaded necklaces and earrings, while TJ tans his own leather and makes custom belts and bracelets in the white barn on Maple Acres’ property.

>Fun fact: TJ’s character was inspired by a real person who started out making jewelry in his parents’ barn. He’s now a master craftsman, and you can see photos of his work, the inspiration for TJ’s work, here: http://www.mangoldleather.com/cuffs-and-bracelets.html

Of course, TJ is his own person in in my head. If I had to fan cast him, I would swoon—uh, choose – Dylan O’Brien:

As for Marisa, I’ve never really had a clear picture of her in my head. So it was kind of fitting that her face is hidden by her camera on the book’s cover. But if I had to pick, I could easily see Sofia Carson making the perfect Marisa Palmera, Private Eye:

And then we have Kendall, the ex-frenemy who commissioned Marisa’s help scoping out TJ’s extracurricular activities. The first time I saw Dove Cameron, I thought I’d dreamed her into existence. That’s how closely she resembled the Kendall in my head:

Twitter Takeover at Maximum Pop! Books!

This Friday, April 28th, I’m taking over the twitter account for Maximum Pop! Books!

Come visit for an hour starting at Noon Pacific Time / 8pm BST. I’ll be talking about my latest YA novel, A TRAGIC KIND OF WONDERFUL — which comes out in paperback on May 4th — and anything else you want to chat about in the book author world. Just tweet your questions to @maximumpopbooks with hashtag #EricMP to join the conversation.

I will also be giving away one free copy of A TRAGIC KIND OF WONDERFUL in paperback. To enter for a chance to win, tweet the hashtag #ATKOW with your question during the takeover hour (just the once is fine — no need to include it with every question or comment). When the takeover ends, I’ll randomly select one winner from all the twitter handles that entered.

What shall we talk about on Friday? Among other things, A TRAGIC KIND OF WONDERFUL tells the story of Mel Hannigan, who (as her psychiatrist puts it) has “…bipolar disorder….vibrant blue eyes, a wonderful personality, a tendency to undervalue (herself), and many, many other things.” I don’t have bipolar disorder, so my book is not #ownvoices. I do have ADD-PI, clinical anxiety, and depression, so many of my symptoms do overlap with Mel’s, yet in other ways, I can’t know what it’s like to have bipolar disorder; no one without it can truly know. So in writing Mel’s story, I stayed as close as I could to my own experiences, and to accounts of people with bipolar disorder in my research. I mention this here to say that all these topics, including my own diagnoses and experiences, are fair game during the takeover — feel free to ask anything!

Follow us both on Twitter, and come join the takeover this Friday! Until then…

HOSTED AUTHOR!
Today, I am hosting Tera Lynn Childs for the YA Scavenger Hunt! Tera is the RITA-award-winning and bestselling young adult author of the mythology-based Oh. My. Gods. series, the Forgive My Fins mermaid romances, the kick-butt monster-hunting Sweet Venom trilogy, and the Darkly Fae series. She also writes the City Chicks books and co-wrote the Hero Agenda and Creative HeArts series. Her works have appeared in over a dozen languages and on multiple state library reading lists. She lives in Las Vegas, where she spends her time writing wherever she can find a comfy chair and a steady stream of caffeinated beverages.

For the YA Scavenger Hunt, Tera is showcasing her novella, GODDESS IN TIME.

Some mistakes are worth defying the gods to fix.

Nicole Matios would rather be anywhere other than the tiny Greek island home to the Academy, an ultra-exclusive private school for the descendants of the gods. But she’s basically trapped there until graduation thanks to a foolish childhood prank. One that also got her parents banished from the entire mythological world.

When Nic discovers a book that unlocks the forbidden power of time travel, though, all bets are off. She finally has a chance to right her wrong and get back the life she was supposed to have.

With a little help—okay a lot of help—from her friends, especially Phoebe and Troy, Nic sets out on a quest that will take her from the lofty peak of Mt. Olympus to the chilly depths of Poseidon’s sea palace to the very heart of Hades. Will she be able to fix her mistakes without bringing all of Olympus crashing down around her?

Past and present collide in unpredictable ways—especially when the gods are involved!

Learn more about Tera and her books at www.teralynnchilds.com or buy her book HERE.

EXCLUSIVE CONTENT

Tera’s bonus content is a fun extra from her Oh. My. Gods. series (of which Goddess in Time is a part). It’s the Dynamotheos Study Guide. Created by Level 13 student (and daughter of the headmaster) Stella Petrolas for participants in The Academy’s Goddess Boot Camp, the study guide defines the 12 powers granted by the Greek gods to their descendants. It is intended to help students gain greater control over the dynamotheos powers by learning more about their origins and intentions. Click on the image to zoom in!

To enter the contest for a chance to win books by me, Tera Lynn Childs, and lots more, you need to know that my secret number is 31! Add up all the favorite numbers of the authors on the pink team and you’ll have the secret code to enter for the grand prize!

CONTINUE THE HUNT

To keep going on your quest for the hunt, you need to check out the next author, Dhonielle Clayton, HERE.

Publication Day of the Poppy USA edition of A Tragic Kind Of Wonderful is today!

For sixteen-year-old Mel Hannigan, bipolar disorder makes life unpredictable. Her latest struggle is balancing her growing feelings in a new relationship with her instinct to conceal her diagnosis by keeping everyone at arm’s length.

But when a former friend confronts Mel with the truth about the way their relationship ended, deeply buried secrets threaten to come out and upend her shaky equilibrium.

As the walls of Mel’s compartmentalized world crumble, she fears the worst—that no one will accept her if they discover what she’s been hiding. But would her friends really abandon her if they learned the truth? More importantly, can Mel bring herself to risk everything to find out?

Praise for A Tragic Kind Of Wonderful:

“The portrayal of Mel’s bipolar disorder is nuanced and reads true to life. Her fear of rejection will be familiar to teenagers, whether they’re acquainted with mental illness or not, making it an important gateway to self-acceptance and understanding of others. An intimate and affecting portrait of mental illness helmed by an achingly real protagonist.”

―Kirkus Reviews

“Lindstrom deftly addresses life with bipolar disorder, as well as the internalized shame often felt by individuals with mental illness. Details about Mel’s deceased brother and estranged best friend are revealed slowly, providing tension and mystery. Emotions run high as Lindstrom’s story confronts mental illness, grief, and shame, but the optimistic resolution provides balance.”

―Publishers Weekly

“Lindstrom’s compelling novel is rich in clinical detail, which is nicely integrated into the plot, ensuring the novel is never didactic but always dramatic….readers will find Mel’s story always absorbing and gain insight into her troubling disorder.”

―Booklist

“Behind a cynical exterior, Mel is a thoughtful, resilient teen with a dry sense of humor….(her) struggle to take her condition seriously without letting mental illness define her life is heart-rending.”

―Horn Book Magazine Reviews

“…clinical details surface naturally through an engaging and fast-moving plot that foregrounds Mel as a person who maintains a strong ethic of kindness even and especially when her Hanniganimal is down…”
