Upcoming Fiction Posts
As I wrote here a few weeks ago, I’m going to start posting some of my ongoing projects as serials for reader feedback as I work on them. On Feb. 17th, I will begin posting some short stories in serial format. I’ll start slowly but hope build to 2-3 different projects being updated weekly.
Readers are invited to share their thoughts on the work and, since these are not entirely completed, I’ll be open to making changes based on some of these comments.
I’ll continue share an occasional post about some writing-related topics as well as reviews and hosting some book tours for other authors.
Please share your thoughts and ideas in the comments section. Sign up for my Archer’s Aim Digest mailing list to receive the forthcoming edition of my newsletter with announcements about upcoming fiction on this site and future releases. You’ll be the first to have news about my books, especially the upcoming release of An Arrow Against the Wind, the second novel of The Bow of Hart Saga due out later this year.

Announcement: The Bow of Destiny Price Reduction & Other News
Just a few short announcements today:

Also, I’ve been working on several writing projects and considering my approach to blogging this year. Since I need to spend more time on book content, I’m going to keep my general posts to about one a week covering most anything related to writing.
However, I do intend to post some fiction on this site for ongoing projects. Readers will be welcome to offer feedback on these posts since they will represent work in progress.
I’ll also occasionally host some other authors on blog tours but overall, the number of posts will be far less than last year as I work on novel-length content more this year.
Please share your thoughts and ideas in the comments section. Sign up for my Archer’s Aim Digest mailing list to receive the forthcoming edition of my newsletter with announcements about upcoming releases and events. The Bow of Destiny is my first novel and it has a
trailer viewable on YouTube
. I made the trailer as a DIY project with as low a budget as possible. Here’s some background on how I did it:
1. First, I had some pictures I already used regarding my site so those made a good start. However, I did purchase some others from iStockPhoto to fill out what I needed.
2. Next I needed some background music. After doing some research I found out about the Creative Commons website. There I found some music that I liked entitled “Dark Fog” by Kevin MacLeod. Creative Commons allows you to use what’s posted for free as long as you clearly post the credits for the creator.
3. After downloading the music, I started using Microsoft Live Movie Maker and worked for several hours on the project. I added the pictures and the music and set the timing for the former based on the music. I also added the text and the various affects using Movie Maker.
It’s my first effort at a trailer and it seems to strike a cord with people. Take a look at the end result on my YouTube link. Also, you can check out the great lineup of trailers from the block party today and for previous days by clicking here!

Upcoming: 2nd Draft Posts from An Arrow Against the Wind
Last Friday I appeared on Speculative Cantina and enjoyed the privilege of being interviewed by S. Evan Townsend. Just click the Speculative Cantina link to listen to the show. I think it was my best interview yet and it includes a reading from The Bow of Destiny which was a lot of fun to do.

The second book of The Bow of Hart Saga, An Arrow Against the Wind, is due out 4/18/2016. It’s currently undergoing a structural edit after which I’ll begin making necessary changes to get it knocked into shape for the second round of editing in February.
The book should be ready for some alpha reading sometime in January when I’ll begin posting scenes to be read for feedback. I’ll entertain suggestions as I work to complete the book and should post for beta reading in March.
Additionally, I’ll commission the cover artwork over the next month and post the cover-reveal as soon as I have it. Anyone interested in epic fantasy is welcome to read along with these stages of development and invite others to join in as well.
In the meantime, I’ve reduced the number of posts for the blog in order to focus more on producing books. I’ve really enjoyed all the blogging I’ve done over the last year but I have more urgency for my fiction at the moment. I’ll continue to post some thoughts and news as I go and announce when I expect to start posting work from An Arrow Against the Wind.

My NaNoWrMo Update – The Final Push
I’ve been updating my progress during this month’s NaNoWriMo challenge. I’ve had a busy last few weeks but not with writing – other personal distraction. The month started well but then other issues took.

But I wanted to update my total as of the end of the day and what my writing plans are. Once I saw my time has been swallowed, I decided that I would make my big push during my week off around Thanksgiving. So I’ve planned to do a lot of writing each day and see how far I get on the challenge before the end of the month. I’ll start sharing my progress with short updates this week.
One of the ways I plan to make the time more effective is to change my writing style a bit. I already write using deep POV with the dialogue designated by context. I’ll write now with less consideration to using all the deep POV techniques and more emphasis with just getting the main idea written. So I’ve moved forward with less emphasis on style and more on just pushing for words.

Fantasy Authors Unplugged Featuring D. R. Rosensteel
This is continuing feature on Archer’s Aim – Fantasy Authors Unplugged. I hope to frequently share an interview with a fantasy author. If you have authors to suggest and/or questions you’d like to see answered then leave a comment or send me an email. If you are a fantasy author and would like an interview please let me know and we’ll plan one that fits your schedule. Today I welcome D. R. Rosensteel who’s sharing his latest book – take it away, D. R!
What’s the plot of your latest book?
Sixteen-year-old Rinnie Noelle is called into action again as the crime rate suddenly accelerates in Greensburg. Rinnie’s friends and teachers disappear in a bizarre game of riddles where fresh cemetery plots and poetic clues point to the next victim. Between keeping the Dweeb League from getting themselves killed, dealing with a new Psi Fighter who gives her attitude, and trying to figure out who Nicolaitan’s next victim is before it’s too late, Rinnie is pulled into a wild ride that makes her question everything she believes about good and evil. In a climactic showdown, the Psi Fighters and Walpurgis Knights face off for the first time in a decade. The problem is, Rinnie has learned that a rogue Psi Fighter is in their midst, and is unsure who is on her side.
What themes do you like to explore in your writing and why?
Good vs. Evil, drugs, bullying, God, standing up for what’s right, protecting the innocent.
How would you describe your writing style?
Fun and witty. I like characters who see the humor in life, even in dark circumstances.
What drew you to write fantasy?
I’ve always been a Sword and Sorcery fan. I loved the Conan the Barbarian stories growing up. I read Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit for the first time while I was in college, and I was hooked. Most of my stories are modern-day fantasy, although I am working on a manuscript set in medieval times.
What actors do you envision as playing some of your characters?
Rinnie would played by Saoirse Ronan because of her fighting skills. She played an assassin in Hannah and was awesome. Kathryn would be played by Jennette McCurdy, because Kathryn is like a non-nasty version of Sam from iCarly.
What keeps you creatively charged?
Life in general. People are just awesome and writing about them is a blast (even though I don’t write about real people.)
What book have you read that you wish you had written and why?
Harry Potter. It’s awesome, and I should have thought of it.
Where do you like to write?
I am supposed to write at my desk in my office, but somehow I always find myself at the kitchen table or the table outside on the deck. It just seems like the thing to do.
Please reply with answers, your bio, book blurb, author photo, cover art, your contact links and sales links.
My Bio
D. R. Rosensteel is a research consultant who had no intention of writing anything but technical papers describing his theories of metaphysical psychometry. But when a hoodied teen showed him a device that turned her thoughts into weapons, and told him about a secret society of protectors who trained her in their underground Academy, he knew her story had to be written.
He has put his research on hold to document the adventures of a girl whose face he’s never seen and whose real name he’ll never know.
Book Blurbs:
PSI ANOTHER DAY (released May 6, 2014)
When Rinnie Noelle, Greensburg’s youngest masked crime-fighter, totally botches her first mission and lets a frightening stalker escape, she is reassigned to protect her high school from arch-nemesis Mason Draudimon, a bully who has picked on her since fifth grade. The thought bores her to death. She could easily dust the lockers with his face, and that would be fun, but it would also give away the secret of her true identity. But the assignment takes on a whole new meaning when Rinnie discovers that the school has become a hunting ground, and she is the prey. The Walpurgis Knights, a mysterious group of supervillains, have dispatched an apprentice to find her. The good news is, he doesn’t know her true identity. The bad news is, she doesn’t know his, either. But Mason is the link to finding him.
Aided by an oddly shaped, politically imperfect band of outcasts, Rinnie searches the high school for the elusive apprentice. When the stalker returns to take a little girl from the elementary school, Rinnie has to choose between rescuing the girl and uncovering the identity of the apprentice. In an unpredictable game of deception, she learns that the Walpurgis Knights, the kidnapper, and Mason are all tied irrevocably to the man who murdered her parents.
Rinnie takes her Mental Arts skills to their limits in her first battle against the evil Walpurgis Knights.

Scrivener & My NaNoWriMo Progress Week 2
Scrivener is a powerful writing tool. I write about it weekly with tips and usage ideas. To read more of my posts click the Scrivener tag or category at the end of the page.
This is a short post this week. I’ve been working on catching up with NaNoWriMo word targets after having fallen behind over the last week due to extenuating circumstances. I’ve made a few procedural changes and I include them with a few other thoughts on my Scrivener usage:
1. I’ve turned off the Project Targets and the backgrounds to reduce distractions. I was watching the progress too much while trying to catch up and that just doesn’t work. It’s good to see when things are going well and I check it when I’m done to record my total. The backgrounds are good to have but I just need to focus on progress at the moment.
2. The Auto Complete list is very helpful, especially trying to catch up. I’m just hitting the enter key often and moving on with the work.
3. I’ve been making some notes. When I leave the computer and intend to come back I open Manage Project Notes and type in what’s next so I can pick up where I left off faster. Otherwise, I add the not in the project notes.
4. As I work to catch up on my monthly total, I’m interested to see how much of Scrivener’s tools further benefit my efforts and which ones are the most useful.
5. I like it that, with Scrivener, I’m able to get started easily. I’m not lost and I don’t have to click around to see where I left off. I’m able to get off the starting blocks quickly which is very important right now for making up ground over the next several days.
That’s all I have this week. I’ll share how Scrivener has helped me next week as I expect to make gains during that time and make a good effort over the second half of the month.
Please share your thoughts and ideas in the comments section. Sign up for my Archer’s Aim Digest mailing list to receive the forthcoming edition of my newsletter with announcements about upcoming releases and events. Just as a note: I now have a marketing affiliation with Scrivener. For support questions, pricing, licensing and other concerns please contact the vendor. As such a buy ad for Scrivener appears on the sidebar. I’ve started this program since I like the product so much and want to offer readers the chance to obtain this software. I’m not required to write about Scrivener to be an affiliate; I just like it that much. You can also find my FTC statement on this site’s sidebar.

Fantasy Authors Unplugged: The Latest Reviews for The Bow of Destiny
Here are two new 5-star reviews for The Bow of Destiny! Both can be found on the book’s Amazon page and here’s the trailer again today:
Follow Blog via Email
Enter your email address to follow this blog and receive notifications of new posts by email.
If you love Fantasy stories about Rangers, then this is the book for you! There’s plenty of camping, tracking, hiking, and evading pursuers in the woods. Throughout the first half of the book, you can practically smell the wood-smoke, feel the dew on your pillow, hear the footsteps on pine needles. It’s cool when the heroes’ traveling party uses scouts to stalk ahead, looking for trouble, or where hunting parties take hours or days to track each other down before a vicious fight.
And there’s plenty of troubles to be found here. Athson (the ‘Archer’ hero) and his band of supernatural allies (sorceress, dwarves, and other magical beings) face off against an assortment of strange creatures. Also a variety of challenging landscapes, some of which are cursed. There’s even some classic dungeon crawling in the ‘Troll-Neath,’ which is a phrase I love! I especially liked one action scene involving a bridge that reminded me of Indiana Jones, or the famous Balrog scene in LOTR. My only issue was trying to differentiate between the types of troll hordes that Athson fights. I have fond memories of the terms ‘Bugbear,’ ‘Kobold,’ ‘Goblin,’ and ‘Hobgoblin,’ but I have a hard time picturing what each one of these creatures would look like. On the other hand, some of the other fiends and spells that Athson faces are very chillingly described.
The author writes in a masterful, fluid style, and the pages just roll by. At the same time, I didn’t find myself annoyed or bored by any of the characters, which can be quite a feat (IMO) when it comes to Fantasy stories. A totally enjoyable experience! I look forward to seeing what happens next with these characters.
And the next one:
This is P. H. Solomon’s first book in the Bow of Hart Saga and in a word I found it incredible! The story is so rich with different elements that I found myself totally engrossed from the very beginning.
The opening perspective was very interesting and unexpected. I would say more, but I hate it when people give away too much of the plot in a review.
The action sequences were gripping and written in such a way as to make you feel like you are there with the main character at each twist and turn of the story.
I loved the maps of the lands , the different dialects and races in the story, the use of magic in that it wasn’t overused but rather a wonderful seasoning to the story.
It is easy to see the time and attention to detail the author has put into this book. Give this story a try, you will not be disappointed!
The Bow of Destiny has been selected as a semi-finalist in the Authorsdb 2015 Cover Contest (finalist selections are still pending). As such, I’ve left the book at it’s sales price of $2.99 to celebrate!

The Bow of Destiny’s Main Character
Today is a continuation last week’s series about The Bow of Destiny. Today, it’s all about the main character and what makes the book go. But first, here’s the book trailer:
Athson is the main character of The Bow of Hart and a rather complex one at that. He suffers from fits over the violent memories surrounding the sack of his home Depenburgh that left him an orphan. These events were precipitated by an attack of trolls who are commanded by Corgren, a wizard in service to Magdronu, a dragon seeking for prime control of the world of Denaria.

After elves discovered Athson wandering in the Auguron Forest they took him in only to realize later that he suffered the aforementioned fits as well as hallucinations about a Mountain Hound he called Spark. But over the years, these affects have been muted with the help of an elven medicine named Soul-ease.
But Athson also holds a few other secrets that he won’t reveal so easily and this leads him into trouble. As a grown man, he’s become a ranger among the elves and is sent with his mentor, Gweld, into the largely unpopulated western Auguron region. It’s here that events conspire to drag Athson unwillingly into a quest.
Along the way, Athson gains several new friends and companions – some he likes and some he doesn’t. Often, Athson also struggles with what’s real and not since he losses – or forgets – his medicine several times. Other events leave Athson confused and grieving while he struggles to find the Bow of Hart. But along the way, Athson finds his secrets are hard to keep hidden. Additionally, he’ll find himself facing hidden information and danger from Corgren, Magdronu and trolls all of which will test his resolve and grasp on reality.
Book blurb:
Haunted by his past. Hunted in the present. Uncertain what is real.
Athson has seen things that aren’t there and suffered fits since being tragically orphaned as a child at the hands of trolls and Corgren the wizard. When a strange will mentioning a mysterious bow comes into his possession, he’s not sure it’s real. But the trolls that soon pursue him are all too real and dangerous.
