Jack Tate's Amsterdam Tour
Last month a friend and I were in Amsterdam where much of the action in "An Expendable Spy" takes place. While we were there we decided to undertake the "Jack Tate Amsterdam Tour" visiting the various places in that interesting city British Intelligence agent, Jack Tate, visited in his quest to meet up with West German terrorist, Hans-Dieter Schuster.
My companion persuaded me (against my better judgement)to pose with the paperback version of the novel in front of the door to Room 26 (not my actual room)of the hotel where some of the Amsterdam action takes place. Although it wasn't my room, in the novel is WAS Jack Tate's room.
You can imagine the look of bewilderment on the young Chinese couple's faces when they saw me - book in hand - having my photo taken in front of THEIR room!
Anyway, to see more photos from the "Jack Tate Amsterdam Tour" and further description of my time in Amsterdam please nip across to my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/tomgreerwrit...
And while you're there please feel free to Like my page.

Has Anyone Else Done This?
I'm off to Amsterdam on Friday for a long weekend. I was there several years ago and I'm staying in the same hotel as before. IN FACT part of "An Expendable Spy" takes place in that very hotel, and if they give me Room 26, that very room.
So, next weekend I'll have the paperback version of my novel with me and I'll be reading about the hotel I'm staying in...in the hotel I'm staying in. In MY novel! The one I wrote!
Has anyone else done anything like this?

Fan Fic - A New One To Me
I've come across a new thing to me - Fan fic, which apparently is where you take established characters or often celebrities and write stories around them.
The writers do this for free as a sort of tribute to the author or their characters, eg there is tons of Doctor Who fan fic available out there to read.
So this is just a note to say if anyone wants to write fan fic around any of my characters please fee free to knoch yourself out!

Hello from Tom Greer
Welcome to my new blog. My name is Tom Greer. I'm a spy / crime writer as well as voracious reader.
This blog will be mainly about all things associated with the the themes of crime and spy fiction. Sometimes it'll inform you of what I'm doing writing-wise; how I'm progressing with my latest novel, for example. Sometimes it'll appear to be the random jottings of a madman - who knows where it'll all lead.
My last (and so far only) novel is "An Expendable Spy" http://www.amazon.com/Expendable-Spy-... which, as you may have guessed from the title is a spy novel set in the Cold War.
The novel I'm currently working on is called, "Death Comes Calling" and is set in London and is the first in a crime series featuring Detective Chief Inspector John Gore. Look out for it finally appearing later on in the year.
