Jack Tate's Amsterdam Tour

Last month a friend and I were in Amsterdam where much of the action in "An Expendable Spy" takes place. While we were there we decided to undertake the "Jack Tate Amsterdam Tour" visiting the various places in that interesting city British Intelligence agent, Jack Tate, visited in his quest to meet up with West German terrorist, Hans-Dieter Schuster.

My companion persuaded me (against my better judgement)to pose with the paperback version of the novel in front of the door to Room 26 (not my actual room)of the hotel where some of the Amsterdam action takes place. Although it wasn't my room, in the novel is WAS Jack Tate's room.

You can imagine the look of bewilderment on the young Chinese couple's faces when they saw me - book in hand - having my photo taken in front of THEIR room!

Anyway, to see more photos from the "Jack Tate Amsterdam Tour" and further description of my time in Amsterdam please nip across to my Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/tomgreerwrit...

And while you're there please feel free to Like my page.

Coronavirus

At some point I'm going to have to write a novel which has the coronavirus very much in play, as to set any novel in 2020 which didn't fall in the shadow of it would be akin to setting a novel in 1943 and not mentioning the war.

Laidlaw

Laidlaw (Jack Laidlaw, #1) Laidlaw by William McIlvanney

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

The Grandfather of Tartan Noir, McIlvanney writes evocatively about the mean side of Seventies Glasgow. Great main character, well -drawn minor characters, writes like a dream.

Every Scottish crime writer owes a debt of gratitude to William McIlvanney.

Why Am I Reading My Own New Book?

I'm currently reading the Kindle version of my own novel, Death Comes Calling, which was published just this weekend.

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B089NHM8W1

So, why am I reading my own novel?

Well, it's actually a while since I read even the final draft, so it it's good to read it in book format with new eyes, the way it was intended to be read.

And secondly, I'll be starting to write Book 2 in the Inspector Gore series, The Dying of the Light, and its good to read Book 1, Death Comes Calling, immediately beforehand so I get the feel of the main characters and the rhythm of their speech patterns just right, and to check details continuity-wise.

First Comment

I received a very nice comment this evening from a reader about 'Death Comes Calling', which was published last weekend

"Memorably gory chilling and terrifying too, especially as it hurtled to its conclusion!
Many of your narrator's world-weary obsevations certainly made me smile."
