The Master Vampire, Redux

I keep getting questions about The Master Vampire, namely when is it going to be published?

To answer that question, I wrote a long and winding blog post on my personal blog that delves into such topics as:

What inspired the creation of the first story? Why is Eric Logan so dear to me? What's the holdup with The Master Vampire and why is it taking so long to write? Where is The Master Vampire on my schedule? What cool quotes am I thinking of using for the various parts of the story?

If you’ve been following my personal blog over at DreamingIf, you’ve already heard about the surprise I’ve had cooking for a while: a collection of dark Christmas short stories written under each of my pen names. I’ve been planning this since August, and am so happy to present these stories to you now.

Dreaming of a Dark Christmas was designed around the dark holiday concept. The stories are, in this order:

“Christmas Eve Gift” by C.D. Watson. Old Bill sets out on her annual Christmas Eve jou...

What’s up with The Master Vampire?

I’ve had several readers ask about the release of The Master Vampire, the fourth and final book in the Vampyr Series. When I first conceived of a four book series (well after releasing The Vampire’s Pet and The New Vampire as serialized novels), I imagined getting each one out within no more than two to three months from the last release.

Obviously, that didn’t happen.

Those of you who know me as more than V.R. Cumming are also probably aware that in July 2015, my editor’s mother was diagnosed with cancer. After a long, agonizing battle, she passed away a year later almost to the day. In the meantime, Richard devoted the vast majority of his time to caring for her while doing his best to maintain an active law practice.

My writing process turned upside down during that period and hasn’t quite regained an even keel. I am essentially having to relearn how to write; his daily input was that important to my process.

Will The Master Vampire be released in the foreseeable future? Yes. I promise, it’s on my writing schedule for the first quarter of this year, during which time I will begin working on it again. I have no idea how long it will take to complete the first draft. Right now, I have about 7000 words written and a very rough outline of the major plot points. I’m aiming for a finished story of around 100,000 words, so yes, I still have a way to go.

What are your plans after releasing The Master Vampire?

That’s a fair question. The honest answer is: I don’t know. I had originally planned to add at least two other stories to the Vampyr story world, one about Darien (possibly expanded into a short series revolving around the Greater Atlanta area werewolf pack) and another about Nathaniel, with other possible stories for Elizabet and Marco (which readers have asked for), Alice and Gregory, and Willow.

My writing goals have changed quite a bit since then. I’m trying to gradually ease out of Romance into what my son calls “straight” (i.e. non-romantic) fiction, but I love the story worlds I’m already writing in, including the Vampyr.

And to be quite frank, the Vampyr series is currently my bestselling set of stories.

That said, I can’t see myself writing only Romance stories for the rest of my life. In fact, I have several non-romances in various stages of being written, from initial ideas to partial manuscripts. Eventually, I will be moving out of Romance. When is another question entirely.

Here’s what readers can do…

I can only write so fast, so really, all I need from those of you who are waiting for The Master Vampire‘s release is the occasional word of encouragement. Comment on blog posts or shoot me an email (vr@vrcumming.com) so I know you’re still interested in the series. Go to this post and leave a comment there if you’d like to see the Vampyr series turned into a movie. Like my Facebook page, post reviews on Amazon, GoodReads, and elsewhere. You know, the normal stuff readers do when they like an author.

Hey, I support my favorite authors by doing exactly these same things, so I’m not asking anything of you that I don’t already do, I promise.

If you’re still panting for an Eric fix, hop over to The Master Vampire‘s book page and read the first scene.

Peace!

Now Available: The Vampire's Favorite

Picture It pleases me greatly to announce the official release of Jason Bellmont's story.  The Vampire's Favorite (The Vampyr, Book 2) has been a very long year in the making. I hope you each find it worth the wait.

The introductory price is just $.99 on Amazon or you can borrow The Vampire's Favorite for free with your Kindle Unlimited subscription. That price will only be good for a couple of days. After that, it will change to its regular retail price of $4.99. A print edition will be available soon.

I loved working with Jason over the course of the past year, but now that he's had his say (and don't we all love him for it?), I'm more than ready to return to Eric's perspective and write The Master Vampire. It's shaping up to be a humdinger of a conclusion to the Vampyr Series. I don't want to say any more for fear of ruining all the juicy happenings.

That said, I've had a lot of readers ask about Dev. Yes, he makes another appearance. Beyond that, well. Y'all will have to read The Master Vampire and find out for yourself what happens between him and Eric. No coyness here! Simply an unwillingness to flash my hand before the game is over.

Go pick up your copy of The Vampire's Favorite . Enjoy Jason's blunt perspective on life and his innate sensuality, and when you're finished, I'd love to hear your thoughts. You can do that in a few ways: Leave a review, email me, or comment on this post.

Peace and much love!
