Plate Update: Buddies, Minibooks, and Paper Quilling
November was so great. My state is finally observing autumn, which is quite lovely! November’s FULL plate was stacked high with Thanksgiving food and some Christmas treats that snuck their way in there somewhere.

Book Review: Threads of Blue
[image error]“A war took Mathilde away from her family when she was chosen to serve her country, Sofarende, with other children working on a secret military project.
But now the other children—including her best friend, Megs—have fled to safety, and Mathilde is all alone, determined to complete her mission.
In this sequel to Beautiful Blue World, Mathilde must make her way through a new stage of the war. Haunted by the bold choice she made on the night she chose her country’s future over her own well-being, she clings to the promise Megs made long ago: ‘Whatever happens, I’ll be with you.'” (from Goodreads)
So, I cried.
Beautiful Blue World was one of my favorite books I’ve read earlier this year, and I was eagerly looking forward to the sequel. When my library finally ordered it (thank you, book ninjas!), I checked it out and set it aside… waiting for the perfect moment to enjoy this amazingness.
It had the same wonderful writing style that stole my heart and the same themes that broke it in the first book. Mathilde’s decision in book one had some SERIOUS repercussions, and I found it very accurate that all of the children were dealing with some hard decisions/consequences. Such is wartime. Megs, Annevi, and Gunnar (especially, Gunnar) were great, and I liked Micah though he could be irritating sometimes.

I’ve Got My Eye on These Books
Black Friday is always somewhat exciting for me, but it gets even worse when 150 indie books go on sale for under $1 at the same time. *wonders if my budget will make it out alive* *wonders if I want it to make it out alive*
Not only are there a ton of my favorites available (like Sarah Holman’s Tales of Taelis series or The Kitten Files series by Perry Elisabeth Kirkpatrick), but there’s also many more I’ve been meaning to try out sometime. (And then there are old favorites in paperback. Do I really need another copy of Gift from the Storm just because it’s only $7.20?)
Oh, and I already went to the Christian bookstore today and bought a couple things for myself and a couple others as gifts. *sheepish smile*
But I still let myself dream and budget, and here’s what I’m most interested in right now…

He’s Making Diamonds by S.G. Willoughby has me curious and hopeful. My family has been through the wringer in the health area this year, and this sweet gal’s book looks like it might speak right to us.

Book Review: The Princess in Black and the Science Fair Scare
[image error]“It’s mayhem at the science fair! A squishy goo monster is a challenge for the Princess in Black — but luckily some science-loving princesses are on hand to help.
Princess Magnolia is excited. Excited and nervous. She’s going to the Interkingdom Science Fair today to present her poster about seeds and plants, and when she arrives, she sees that her friends are there too! Princess Honeysuckle made a mole habitat, Princess Sneezewort has built a blanket fort, and Tommy Wigtower has a talking volcano that’s saying “EAAAAT!” Wait, what? A surprise goo monster makes this a job for the Princess in Black, and the Princess in Blankets is on the scene to lend a hand. But will two masked heroes be enough to save the science fair? A little scientific problem-solving — and a lot of princess power — will make the sixth entry in the New York Times best-selling series a smash hit.” (from Goodreads)
My younger sisters and I always look forward to the books in this series, and this one was no exception. As always, this was a super cute read, and I absolutely love the illustration style. I could actually pore of the pictures of the science fair for a while if I weren’t the one reading aloud.

In Word-Related News
I haven’t written a single new word on my novella this week. Which is bad for wordcount goals, but good for other things.

Plate Update: Threads, Sour Cream, and Storytime
I blinked and October was over. O.o. *waves* October’s full plate had a few squares of almond flour coffee cake because I enjoyed experimenting with/perfecting new flavors.
