Quotation of the Day

There are no easy answers, but there are simple answers. We must have the courage to do what we know is morally right.

5.0 out of 5 stars  Impressive collection of poetry!  June 18, 2014By EMGFormat:Kindle EditionI recently moved to Maine, where I was lucky enough to stumble across this book in Portland. I am an avid reader of poetry, and haven't been taken by a poetry book quite like this one in some time. I remained impressed from the first poem to the last poem in this collection. Spencer's writing is full of imagery that made me feel nostalgic for places I've never been. In more than one occasion, I simply sat lingering on the beauty of his words. When a writer can make a reader do that, I believe it is more than deserving of 5 stars. I found this book to be a great introduction to New England poetry, and I look forward to reading more works from the author.

Highly recommended!
5.0 out of 5 stars  Great Collection of Poetry  June 5, 2014By katieFormat:Kindle EditionI found this collection to be very inspiring. This is by far one of my new favorite collections of poetry, and i was surprised, as i had never heard of the writer before, but come to find out he was actually a very influential figure in Maine back in his day, contributing much to the rich history of the beautiful state. i'm vey picky when it comes to poetry, and in fact many of the great American poets don't do much for me because it's rare that i find things written in a style that really floats my boat... and i can honestly say that i find the style of poems in this collection to be written in a very eloquent and easy to read way that's really quite lovely. a great that i would definitely recommend, especially for those sentimental history buffs out there!

Quotation of the Day

Unless each day can be looked back upon by an individual as one in which he has had some fun, some joy, some real satisfaction, that day is a loss.

Princess Of The IndiesA Tale of the Sea
This is the tragic story of the closing days of the hectic reign of Christophe, black emperor of Haiti, when a piratical colony still infested the neighboring isle of Tortuga. The leading character is represented as a British sailor, shipwrecked in the Indies, who follows a fateful quest in the interest of the beautiful, but unfortunate, “Princess of the Indies.” In that quest, on land and sea, he encounters privateersmen and piratical hordes, the then prevalent scourges of the southern seas.  This tale of the Indies is based upon actual happenings during the second decade of the nineteenth century, revised from Captain Carroll’s log.
