After reading Broken
Records last year, I was so smitten with Grady Dawson and Nico Takahashi that
I couldn’t wait to delve into Burning
Tracks, Lilah Suzanne’s second book in the Spotlight series.
This sequel takes the characters of Gwen and Flora, Nico’s
close friends from the previous novel, and expands on their story, both individually
and as a couple. Their marriage is
solid, but not without some problems, mainly due to the differences in their
personalities. While they are both
committed and deeply in love, Gwen’s natural tendency to fly free and loose resurfaces
when Flora’s desire to have a baby becomes imminent.
It’s clear from the moment that Gwen begins to work more
closely with country music superstar Clementine Campbell, that there is a spark
between them. With domestic life with
Flora becoming more demanding and stressful, Gwen is tempted to allow her fear
of her upcoming motherhood drive her to do something drastic. At the same time, Nico and Grady are
experiencing some ups and downs in their relationship after having moved in
together in Nashville. Grady discovers
Nico has been keeping something from him which may indicate that Nico is not
quite as committed as Grady thought.
In this sequel, Lilah Suzanne has taken characters that I
already felt like I knew quite intimately, and made me love them even
more. The development of Gwen, Flora,
and Clementine was spectacular, and I was as drawn into their stories,
emotions, and experiences as much as I was to Grady and Nico’s in the first
book. As well, I absolutely loved the
continuation of Nico and Grady’s story, and they are still as wonderfully
interesting to me as they were in their introduction. The world these characters live in, which is
entrenched in both country music and high-end fashion, is so fun and exciting,
since it showcases experiences I can only imagine, but the characters still
remain incredibly authentic.
I am beyond excited that there is a third book planned in the
series, and that the focus is once again on Grady and Nico. I can’t wait to get my hands on it, and I
have every confidence that Lilah Suzanne will continue to fill my heart with
emotion because of these wonderful characters!
Both books are available through Interlude Press, and Lilah
Suzanne’s blog has wonderful additional material, including fun fashion lookbooks
and music soundtracks for readers to check out!
Thank you so much for this lovely review, I’m so pleased you enjoyed spending more time in this world with these characters. And I’m so excited to share what’s yet to come for them!

It’s
not Flora’s fault, Gwen’s recent discontent and itchy need to do something,
be somewhere else. She hates when she gets like this,
with her own clashing desires for stability and commitment, excitement and
freedom, at war.
Summary
Gwen Pasternak’s got it all. Or so it seems…
In the sequel to RT Book Reviews’ Top Pick Broken Records, Gwen’s life looks perfect: She has a job she loves as stylist to the stars; a beautiful wife, Flora; and a house in the heart of Nashville. But the more she works alongside country music’s dynamic princess Clementine Campbell, the less Gwen is certain of her commitment to a life of domestic bliss.
Meanwhile, her business partner Nico Takahashi is happily settled down with reformed bad-boy musician Grady Dawson. But when Nico questions the permanence of their relationship, Grady retreats into some dangerous old habits. Will Gwen ruin the life she’s built with Flora for something new and exhilarating? Can Grady be convinced of Nico’s devotion before it’s too late?Burning Tracks is a story of tough choices, taking risks, and the pressures of living life in the spotlight.

My plan was to leisurely read Burning Tracks.
I figured I’d savor it slowly over days or weeks, just whenever I would
have time. A couple chapters in, and I knew I would have to finish that
very day. I would MAKE time. I needed to know what would happen as soon
as possible.
Needless to say, @lilahsuzanne has a wonderful way of drawing readers in.
Burning Tracks is the second book in @lilahsuzanne‘s Spotlight series centered around LGBT country singers and fashion stylists. I adored the first book, Broken Records, which lingered in my mind long after I finished it, and was eager to get my hands on the second.
Clementine is my favorite character from the first
book, and she becomes even more fascinating in Burning Tracks. She’s so put together in the first book,
and in the second she’s both admirable and flawed. Gwen and Flora also
become more fleshed out characters, and I love the flashbacks that show
earlier in their relationship. Yay ladies claiming the spotlight!
What’s also great about Burning Tracks is characters who didn’t interact as much in Broken Records have a chance to spend time together and
play off of each other - I particularly enjoyed Gwen and Grady’s
strange budding friendship. The friendships really shine in this series.
I was excited when I reached the end of Broken Records and realized there would be a sequel, and I’m even more excited for the third book teased at the end of Burning Tracks. I wanted a little more insight on things between Nico and Grady, and it looks like their turn is coming back around! Given the impressive speed in which @lilahsuzanne crafts each novel, fingers crossed I can get my next fix of this series before I know it!
While I wait for the next installment, who wants to go read Broken Records and/or Burning Tracks and talk about them with me?
Thank you so much! I’m so happy you enjoyed it :D And Clementine’s story is not over, I promise. I’m getting there!

@scout451 says a million insightful things about Broken Records here, so much so that you can just picture me saying “same” after ever sentence and wishing I said it myself, but to summarize my thoughts and feelings in a far less sophisticated fashion:
1) Broken Records is a delightful book with clever things to say about fame, celebrity, and the way that narratives are framed.
2) The characters draw you in and actively compete to be your favorite. I cooed over them and then threw my hands up at them mere seconds later, all the while never wanting to put the book down because I had to know what they were going to do next.
3) It has a cute love story to boot. What’s better than a character you like? TWO characters you like falling in love, with the meddling and support of even more characters you like.
4) Broken Records will probably make a good present for someone you love, including/especially if that someone is yourself. (On Interlude Press here.)
5) We’re so lucky the series is just beginning. Even a full-length novel isn’t enough to keep me from wanting more.

I decided to revisit my five favorite things about Broken Records in honor of the sequel, Burning Tracks, coming out later this week. How amazing is it that @lilahsuzanne takes a Chris Colfer-esque approach to churring out great books at breakneck speed? I love this series, and I’m so excited that the next book is almost out. More on that soon…
I literally had the same thought today about Lilah’s writing pace matching Colfer’s! We are thinking alike again, @flickerthenflare :)
My review of Burning Tracks is coming soon as well - but you guys, it is so much a worthy sequel to Broken Records!
Aww you guys! Thank you so much. I can’t wait to hear what you thought about Burning Tracks *nervous* Also
I’m comin’ for you Colfer.

She’ll never forget that night, when shy, quiet Flora approached...

She’ll never forget that night, when shy, quiet Flora approached her, when she first really looked at Gwen with those huge dark eyes. Flora’s hair was a curtain of black around her face; a summery blue dress hugged every gorgeous, thick curve of her body. And when she haltingly and breathlessly asked if Gwen wanted to hang out alone, Gwen went dizzy with rushing blood.
