WIP Wednesday

This week I’m diligently working on finishing Cozy Bend 7. I had only meant for this one to be about 45,000, but it’s going to top out around 67,000 from the looks of it. I’m a day or two away from finishing.

Also, I got first edits this week for Coming Home to Love, Cozy Bend Romance 4. I’m enjoying the read through, and I’ve already found a few minor problems. One thing I’ll be changing due to what I’ve written in the current book, 7 in the series. I find that in order to make things work, I have to make those minor changes. I’m glad I have the chance to to or I’d have had to write the story in a different manner. It’s nothing major just a spatial orientation of a building.

As I finish up 7 I’m trying to decide whether to do a spin-off, but I’m thinking not. A few elements in this story I like and I’ll probably take those and use them in another series. I am trying to close out the supernatural elements with this book instead of carrying them over. I think I’ll be able to. I’ll probably go right into the 8th book and that will likely be the last book unless I decided to bring a few other characters forth for a few short books.

I don’t have a cover or pub date for Coming Home to Love yet, but I can’t wait to see it. I don’t we sharing an excerpt this week, but I’ll try to get one out next week.

WIP Wednesday

This week I’m diligently working on Cozy Bend 7. I find myself at 40,000 words and in need of changing part of the concept of the story. I decided to just write it all the way through and make the changes in edits to save time. Well, I’ll probably make the changes and then do the read through, so I can hear it sounds.

Other than that, the story is going well. I’m enjoying the pull and push between Rae and Mirabella. I ended up changing the dynamics I had originally planned when I did that first smexy scene. It just felt right considering Rae and Mirabella’s prior interactions.

As for that supernatural element in this story, I’m keeping as low-key as possible since this story comes in a series where the supernatural has been just that. That factor is more or less been a subplot and I’m keeping it that way and using it as a way to bring Mirabella and Rae together along with what they feel for each other.

The subplot also closes the thread started in book 4 and ran through 5. It’s not going to glare at you, but it’s an element I feel needs some closure.

I have a brief excerpt today. This excerpt comes from right near where I am now. The first smexy scene has occurred and Rae and Mirabell are on a date and doing what they seem to do best so far, arguing. Enjoy and until next week, happy reading.

Enjoy this excerpt

Rae lifted her brows and joined her at the center island where she had stopped filling Rae’s glass.
“This morning was delicious, but I had wanted to take you out before we had sex,” Rae told her. “You intrigue me, and I just want to treat you right.”

Mirabella blinked unsure what she thought of that. “Treat me right?”
Rae took the glass from her hand a took a sip of the red liquid. “I normally don’t give a damn about the women I bed,” she said matter-of-fact. “They’re a means to an end.”
“What end?” Mirabella asked curiously.

“A desire, a sexual urge to have a woman. Women are a hobby. I use them to blow off steam, but one look at you and I wanted to peel back the layers to see what was inside.”
“What about that girl that tore up your clothes?” Mirabella asked angrily. “Did she know you were just keeping her on standby?”

“She wasn’t on standby,” Rae replied evenly. “I wasn’t in love with her, and she knew that. She was just someone I preferred over the other women in my circle.”
“Maybe that’s all I am,” she growled. “Just an older woman you think you’re doing a favor by paying attention to me.”
Rae set the glass down and wiped her mouth with the back of her hand. “If you believe that, I don’t know why I’m even here,” she said calmly. “Unless you’re just covering your bases for mommy and daddy.”

“You’re a jerk,” Mirabella fumed. “I don’t know why I was stupid enough to invite you over.”
Rae gave her a cool stare that almost chilled Mirabella. “I want to get to know you Mirabella, but I’m not going to be a whipping board.”
“I’m not going to be just another notch on your bedpost,” she snapped.

WIP Wednesday

This week I’m diligently working on Cozy Bend 7. I have a working title, but it certainly won’t be the one I use. It’s Her Younger Lover. For now it works. I’m almost half done but I’m not rushing to the finish.

I am having fun with this. It’s another May-December almost as I said before. I’m playing around with a with a few that I’m not sure will stay in, but that’s what the second draft is for cutting out what doesn’t really work.

The supernatural angle is one of those things I’m working with to close an arc I introduced before. Well, I won’t close it fully until the next book. What does strike me as interesting is that I’m nearly thirty thousand in and no sex yet. These ladies are doing a little bickering and hot and cold. A little angst not much.

Over the weekend I’ll be going into a little smexy I hope. Maybe not until next week. I don’t want to rush them to act. I want it to be natural and smooth.

I do have a bit of an excerpt to share this week. Only a small one because I have other news to share.

This is the excerpt.

“You’re doing okay?” he asked. “Keeping
late hours by the circles under your eyes. Rae, do you remember what we talked
about?”

Damn. He was blaming her?

She hadn’t seen Mira in two days.

“Sir,” she said.

“Dad, it’s not Rae’s fault.”

“Then, if she’s not to blame you’re
working to hard and not spending enough time with your new girlfriend.”

The room got so quiet Rae could hear a pin
drop, and Mira’s breath brushed her cheek as it whooshed from her.

“I thought you were done hiding?” he said as
he took the chair across from Rae. “You aren’t ashamed of my daughter are you?
That’s not why she’s losing sleep is it? She’s crazy about you and you’re too
ashamed to be seen in the daylight.”

“Oh, my god,” Mira whispered, and straightened.
A delicate pink flush started in her cheeks and spread to her entire face.

Now, my other news. Release date for The Nefarious Madam is June 23. I do have the cover art.

WIP WEDNESDAY

Second edits for the Nefarious Madam finished and returned. Now, I’m back to work on Cozy Bend 7. I have made a few adjustments to my overall plan for the story and I’m even more excited to get back to working on this story. When I have moments like this where I can’t decide what to do with a book, I normally think about the main premise to see if that’s where my problem lies.

In the case of this story, that was the case. I’m going to take a look at something I think worked for me before to add a little more strength to the story. What is that? I pick a word and the character embodies that word. I don’t know what work I’ll pick later on today, but I will be choosing one for one of my characters.

I do have a bit of an excerpt from the story this week. I still don’t have a title not even a working one. I’m just calling it Cozy Bend 7 at the moment. I’m sure something will trigger the title half way through. If not, I’ll name on completion.

This story does stick with the older May-December theme to a degree, there is a fourteen year age gap between the characters as opposed to the original twenty year age difference. This story will have a bit of a supernatural or witchy theme running through it as I get back to the threads I began in books 4, 5, and 5. I won’t say more even though that thread is a small one that sets up the upcoming books. So we’ll revisit some of the old friends in this book and the ones to come.

WIP Wednesday

This week I’m stalled on writing due to second round edits for the Nefarious Madam. I’m pleased with how they’re going. Alexi is shaping up to be quit more ruthless than I’d planned, but I think the story is staying true to the vision I had for the character originally.

I wanted to portray both the dark human and the animal sides of Alexi. I thought and still think it’s important to show that darkness in her as she moves deeper into the series since she’s going from just a madam to a crime figure.

I also wanted to portray Alexi as a loving woman who’s kind and generous.

For Tatiana, I didn’t want her to just jump into Alexi’s world without reservation. Who could do that unless it’s a world they’re used to and aware of growing up in? Tatiana wasn’t aware of what kind of world she was apart of thanks to her mother. So, having her embrace the violence and death with easy acceptance would have been unrealistic.

She is still adjusting, but she’s more at ease with the life she’s chosen. However, this Tatiana is like the calm before the storm of the woman she will become.

Anyway, the edits are almost done and I signed a contract for Assassins Core 4 yesterday. A tentative release date is next. for The Nefarious Madam.
