One Minute Meditation – Royalston Crick
One Minute Meditations is an ongoing series of short videos, poems, and commentary intended as a meditation. Offered as an opportunity to step back from your cyber routine and settle into a more natural rhythm, if only for a minute.
Royalston Crick
Closing out the month of August with one more reflection back to Winter’s end. This stream I dubbed Royalston Crick, formed from the water of the spring thaw. It turned tundra to mud. Stirring up the smell of earth after a tired frozen winter. As we look around at the green of summer, all this sprung from that rebirth not so long ago.
These videos are produced for those of us who spend an inordinately large amount of time in the cyber-world. They are not a substitute for unplugging from your devices and taking a stroll near trees, water, or a patch of unkempt grass. Getting out into the world - touching, smelling, hearing, and seeing nature is the best way to reconnect with our prime purpose.
What is our prime purpose? We are feeling and sensing machines. We are the universe looking back on itself. We are witness to the wonders and dangers of living in this corner of the cosmos. We are the seekers looking for connection a little further beyond yesterday's borders and boundaries.
But sitting and staring at the screen robs us of the sustenance that we rely upon for wonder and sanity. These videos are an opportunity to bring the sensations of nature to you, while you're in the cyber-world. Its an opportunity to relax your gaze, resettle your posture, and regain some depth in your breath. Listen and watch the video and allow your self to open up and recharge.

FIVE LIMITLESS THOUGHTS
May all living beings have happiness and its causes
May all be free from unhappiness and its causes
May all dwell in equanimity, free of attraction and aversion
May all quickly find the great happiness that lies beyond all misery
May all enjoy inner and outer peace now and forever

Is It Important To Be Spiritual? – Modern Koans
Modern Koans is an ongoing series that recognizes that good questions are often more important then their answers.
The riddles of God are more satisfying than the solutions of man. ― G.K. Chesterton
Is It Important To Be Spiritual?
I don’t think anyone agrees on what spiritual means. I would say it’s more of a “not” thing.
It’s “not” religion, but kind of
It’s “not” materialism, cause well, that sounds bad
It’s “not” about a deity because we can’t relate to that
It’s “not” science, because that feels cold
By talking about spirituality without a working definition, I think we risk talking about nothing.
Perhaps people who profess a preference for spirituality are speaking out in wont of an answer to some existential problem. I’d suggest, this might be where the rubber hits the road.
If you are seeking for answers and spirituality is where you’re looking, be careful. You can just end up embracing whatever makes you feel good (and filling other people’s pockets).
If you find something that addresses your yearning and doesn’t require that you feed the meter or keep coming back for another fix, then you are doing well. If that “something” is called spirituality, then hurray. It rocks.
If not, move on.
What’s your definition of spirituality? Is it mumbo jumbo? Is it new age religion? Is it a fad or is it a worthwhile endeavor?
I’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Fish Brook – A Five Minute Meditation
I’ve recently purchased the Andover Trails Guide and I’ve been exploring the reservations preserved by AVIS. This meditation was taken of Fish Brook on the Harold Rafton Reservation. There is a lovely overlook where the brook widens. Here I set up my tripod, struggled to keep my dog from jumping in the water, and pressed record.

Now (A Poem, Maybe Erotic?) – Verse Us
Verse Us - Poems I write: haiku, senryu, mesostics, free verse, random word constructions, I might even use rhyme or meter once and a while.
Now
The clamor
The desire etched on her face
Her throat yearning, all the way down
Her thirst is tangible,
Her nostrils flair betraying anticipation
Give it to me
Give it to me now
Please, give me a glass of water
