New Trend Alert — Lana Del Rey just dropped a poetry book on Audible

We keep seeing it happen, guys. More and more “authors” are dropping audiobooks either exclusively or prior to releasing a physical version. For a singer like Lana Del Rey who is a natural storyteller, an audiobook makes perfect sense and is right in line with the trend we’ve been speaking about here on CRY.

The name of her book is Violet Bent Backwards Over the Grass. Hardcover won’t be available till September but you can get the audiobook now. There’s even music by Jack Antonoff to some of the poetry she’ll be reading.

Is this the future? I also wrote about a world where Audiobooks dominate the market. The publishing industry is going through changes right now, primarily in its leadership. But what kind of a world are authors looking at if this trend continues?

Call for submissions — Do you let the pressure of commercial success change the way you create?

If we’re really honest with ourselves, there’s at least a part of us that wants a taste of commercial success. We want people reading our books or buying our paintings streaming our music on a scale that makes a real difference in our lives monetarily.

But how do you handle that pressure? Do you let the allure of commercial success change the way you create? Does it change what you create? How far are you willing to go and how much are you willing to compromise to get paid?

Same rules as always:If you’re already a writer for CRY, go ahead and submit. If you’re not a writer for CRY but would like to submit to this request, let us know and we’ll add you ASAP.Be as creative as you want in your submissions. As long as you stick to the topic, we’ll consider it.Just because you submit doesn’t mean we’ll post. If you haven’t heard back from us in three days, consider that a pass.Deadline to submit is this Friday, July 31.

Please reach out if you have any questions at all. If you are new to Medium, here’s how you submit a draft to a publication.

Excited to see what you come up with!
