Call for Submissions: How Much Are You Willing To Conform?
No success without sacrifice. I think that’s a saying LOL. Either way, as a writer and creator, you likely have dreams of creating full-time. You want to wake up and enjoy the privilege of pursuing your passion and earning a liveable income while doing it.
But that dream often comes with some kind of concession. You may have to create content to appease an audience or market your work in a way that makes you uncomfortable. Our success as creators is so dependent on the validation of others that it puts us in situations where we have to make a decision.
Too often, those decisions can feel opposing. So let’s talk about it.
How much are you willing to conform or sacrifice to reach your dreams?

Dear August and More Emerging Artist News
It’s Friday which typically means new releases from both established musicians and artists hoping to make it big. At CRY, you know we’re only focused on the indie artists, so here are a few projects to listen to this weekend.
Kimberly AugustAfter the success of her first single, Wallflower, accumulated over 3 million streams on Spotify, Kimberly August stepped away from music for four years. Now she’s back with a new EP titled Dear August and it’s like she never left.
Kim’s fanbase has stuck with her. She still gets over 70,000 streams/month with only one song. With the release of Dear August, she’s ready to share that soulful voice with the world and reconnect with her audience which stretches across South America.
Follow Kimberly on Instagram to keep up with all her releases.
Riffic Da GulRiffic’s EP is called Novah Marie, after his youngest daughter. The week she was born, he was compelled to get back into the booth after about a 2-year hiatus. Novah Marie chronicles the last year in which a lot has happened for Riffic. As he continues to work off of her energy, he attributes those blessings to his daughter and the energy she has brought into his journey.

OkandiOkandi has spent the majority of 2020/21 isolating, incubating & rebuilding. The O. Children singer-songwriter, producer & independent digital artist is taking time out from this exciting but gruelling endeavour to release latest single C.M.W.I.F (Catch Me When I Fall), an infectious call to action & championing of diversity, inclusivity and freedom for all. Self-released August 5 under newly formed music & emerging tech studio Okandi Worldwide.
C.M.W.I.F is equal parts vulnerable & anthemic. Produced by Okandi, alongside Barny Barnicott (Arctic Monkeys, Everyone You Know, Sam Fender, MIA) on engineering duties at the legendary Bluebell Hill Studios in Kent. This will be the first time the pair have linked up since producing O. Children’s self-titled 2009 debut LP which was voted #21 on Post Punk.com’s best albums of the decade (2010–2019).

Call for Submissions — What Scares You About Writing?
Just recently, my daughter started posting her fashion creations. She creates images on clothing and for months, she was almost paralyzed by the fear of sharing those images publicly.
I’ve been writing and sharing for so long that I forgot what it felt like to share my work publicly for the first time. It’s definitely frightening and it took a lot of encouragement for my daughter to start posting publicly.
I’m happy to say that she now gets orders weekly and is already planning what her studio will look like, but those months of fear were real.
Our prompt this week is all about your fears. What scares you when it comes to writing or creating? Has that fear ever stopped you?
