11 Days!

11 Days!

11 Days! Let’s do this!

Today’s Fact: Olde Mistick Village exists! It’s in Mystic, Connecticut, where the book takes place. Mystical Elements exists as well. I knew when it came to placing Meda in a shop, it had to be Mystical Elements. I spent a great deal of time there before joining the Army. So much time that when I called the owner from Afghanistan, she immediately knew who I was.

Meet the Characters!

MW Count3

When we initially started discussing the Mystic Waters website, Rosemi insisted we introduce the characters. I didn’t want to do a typical character summary so we thought choosing quotes from the book that reference each character would not only be more fun, but also more intriguing. It’s my birthday, and because I’m known for being generous, here’s my gift to you all:

Liza – And as awful as it sounded, I reasoned that maybe if I lost myself in another woman, it would take the edge off. Maybe my obsession with Liza would fade.

Farah – “Hey, you!” She shouted down. He looked around for the voice and zeroed in on Farah’s waving form with a smile. She winked before tossing her bra with a flourish, giggling excitedly when he snatched it from the air.

Edric – Looking back up at him, I caught the slightest smile, telling me, ‘Yes, I’m looking at you.’ What stopped me was his intense gaze. What made my heart lurch was the fact that he was ridiculously sexy.

Meda – “How do I know I can trust you?” I asked as we rushed out of the room, into the rest of the store. Meda halted and held my shoulders. “Because I told you what no one else could.”

Amare – Amare stood with her hands tucked into the pockets of her black jeans. Her slim frame would scream fragility, but her sheer power was written in her stance, in her walk, in everything she did.

Maria – “She is known as the Sea Witch. Her human name was Maria, but, as I am sure you have seen, she is very far from anything human now.”

Now playing Birthday by Katy Perry. It seemed appropriate.

13 Days!

13 Days!

I owe you TWO facts. Yesterday was a busy Army day and I crawled into bed and passed out. Sorry about that! 13 days away. Let’s give you some love and some hate.

Fact 1: When writing Edric, I had to be a little in love with him as well. He’s a bit of a tortured soul. But on his worst day, he is a beautiful spirit. I think the charm in him is his eagerness to please Liza. We all know that nothing turns a woman to putty more than a man who isn’t afraid to show the world that you are his.

Fact 2: Maria was born of my own fears. Her powers even frighten me. What’s worse is, she is unpredictable. And because of her past, she is absolutely insane. She’s so much fun to write! As many times as she may make you gasp and cringe, she makes me react as well.

Are you ready for Mystic? :)

15 Days!

15 Days!

In honor of the upcoming release of Mystic Waters, starting at 15 days (today), I will give random facts about either the book, or the writing process. One of these days I might even answer any questions you guys might have. ;)

Today’s fact: Both Liza and Farah are gifted with pieces of my personality. Farah has my sometimes sassiness and Liza has my general awkwardness around others. Mine is much more vocal than hers (I tend to blabber a lot) and I believe she handles herself with much more grace than I could ever muster.

The Dream

It’s a bit surreal these days. I walk around with a smile on my face. In my uniform. I never thought I could be so happy.

I was happy when I married my husband. I was happy when I joined the Army. I was even happy when that plane landed in Afghanistan and I stepped out and inhaled the dusty air, filled with the stench of the “poo pond”. But to make your dreams come true on your own…there’s a deep sense of contentment that follows you. I am proud to say I’m a Soldier. But I’m absolutely floored by the idea of being called an author.

I didn’t come from much. My parents were hardworking. I think I got my drive from them. My ambition came from wanting to put a smile on their faces and making sure I never had to work so hard that I missed moments from my (future) childrens’ lives. So I graduated high school, took some time to get to know myself, be a bit of a child, then I buckled down and started to really work. Since then I haven’t stopped. One day I decided, since I’m doing things I never thought I could, let’s add something else into the mix. Something I enjoy.

And here I am. Mystic Waters will be released in 22 days! I’ll be home in 22 days. I used to dream of this stuff from my container in Afghanistan. Can this really be happening?!

I have to thank Anterior Books for believing in me. And Rosemi Mederos…what would I do without you? I’d be lost. That’s for sure. For the people who’ve kept up with this blog, I’m so glad you tuned in. And even if you think my book is shit, I’m still glad. I did something I’ve always wanted to do and I had the courage to see it through. Thanks for holding my hand and jumping off the cliff with me.

If anyone has anything to ask of me, please don’t be afraid to email me. And if you’d like to ask in person as well as have me sign your book, feel free to attend the event being hosted. Come one, come all! Also, follow my Facebook page. I update more often on there. Even my Twitter and Instagram get more action than this blog. ;)

I’m working hard on Chasing the Tide.

Revealing the Book Cover!

Hello! You’ve read the title correctly. We are revealing the Mystic Waters book cover. However, it will not be today and it will not be on my blog (at least, my blog won’t be where you see it first). On Monday, May 12th, 2014, the book cover will be revealed on Anterior’s website. This is a huge deal of course. I know we’ve been pretty quiet about the production/publishing of Mystic Waters but that’s only because we didn’t want to make you all promises we couldn’t keep.

I’ve seen the cover. And I had my hand in the production of this book in every way possible. This is because I trusted my gut and went with a woman who had complete faith in my story. I don’t think a traditional publishing house would’ve made me as happy as our situation does. My opinion is considered in all things and I’m so fortunate. When looking for a publishing house, please make sure it’s what you want. Only you have to live with the regret of making the wrong decision.

If you follow me on Twitter, Facebook, or Instagram, you’d see that I posted a small piece of the book cover for those who’ve shown me support throughout this journey. I am so happy to share these updates with you and hope you love Mystic Waters as much as Rosemi and I do!
