The Heretical Nine is now a Live Novel

I collaborated with Live Novel Publishing over the winter to create the first Live Novel, titled The Heretical Nine. I redid the novel I’d written years ago, fixing the countless errors. Because of the insane amount of errors and the aggressive rewrites, I decided to unpublish the print and ebook versions and stick exclusively with the Live Novel.

I’m extremely proud of how it turned out. The link to my Live Novel in the Live Novel Publishing bookstore is here: https://www.livenovel.com/live-...

Sail on Silver Girl

I slammed on the brakes. The car was right in front of me again. The silver hatchback with the large dark-eyed woman staring at me through the rear window, who reminded me of an overweight guy cosplaying as Bellatrix Lestrange. The androgynous woman, as I’d begun to call her to my friends. “Look at this!” I said. “I told you!”

Tim squinted into the hatchback. He looked at me just as the androgynous woman looked away. “That looks more like a man to me,” he said. “Anyway, are you sure it’s not ...

What the Black Square Means

I wrote this story for the /r/nosleep subreddit. It didn’t do well. Here’s the URL:

I think a lot of good lessons came from this. Scroll past the story to get straight to my lessons learned (with spoilers).
I came to this forum a few weeks ago looking for actual help with insomnia. But you all expected a scary story from me, when all I wanted was some help. Well, here’s your scary story, and the source of my insom...

The Heretical Nine — Chapter 1

Present day

“Open the windows. This heat is almost as unbearable as the stench.”

On the cracked rotting wooden floor in the center of the mansion’s entrance hall were seven mutilated human bodies. The room was an ancient canvas with dried globs of black-red paint rotting on the surface.

The bodies were arranged as a star, and a pentagram had been painted with their remains. There was a body for each point of the star, and one last body in the center. A circle, painted with blood, enclosed the...

The Heretical Nine — Prologue

Carl spent a majority of Sunday evenings in his small yacht, sailing around the northern coast of Key West. He mapped the same route every Sunday—north around Dredgers Key, tracing Salt Pond by the coast, passing the Naval station and the College Road peninsula. He made his way south of Jewfish Basin, looking north at the scattered array of islands, feeling June’s breathy exhale of ocean mist sticking to his skin.

It was the little things, he thought to himself.

After his first heart attack a...

The Harbinger Break — Prologue: Such Deliberate Disguises

On a cosmic scale, Doctor Simon Fischer knew it wasn’t too important that he struggled to lock his office door–but he just wanted to feel secure, regardless of how false and almost laughable that feeling was in this period of human existence.

His keys rattled as he tried again. The lock was old and rusted, and would fight against being turned–a desperate battle that often left Fischer with aching fingers. He’d talk to Rachel in the morning–he’s told her for weeks now to get it fixed.

The lock...
