Gwen’s best friend Izzy fell in love with Death. Everyone knows there’s no happy ending to something like that, right? It wasn’t a surprise when tragedy struck in the form of a vengeful Fate, but it left Gwen to pick up the pieces of her life and move on alone.

Devastated and angered by the loss of her friend, she simply wants to withdraw from the world for a while. Too bad for her, because Izzy wasn’t the only one the monsters want. She’s something special, a human who carries Reaper blood, and that makes her valuable to the right people. Her only hope of survival lies in the hands of an inept guardian angel and an egotistical Reaper who’s as sexy as he is lethal.

Don’t miss Wings of Defiance, the third book in the Immortal Sorrows series by Sherri A. Wingler. If you like sexy angels, ruthless demons, or snarky romance, then this book will have you turning the pages! Come check it out!

My Review posted in 2015:

I just absolutely loved this book! I’m especially happy I found it after the 2nd book, Undertow came out. That way I don’t have to wait to see what happens after the cliffhanger Ms. Melanson left us with. I’ve already 1-clicked the sequel, and I cannot wait to start it:)

I won’t give away the secrets of this book for potential new readers. Discovery of a really amazing book is the fun of reading in the first place. There is one thing I do want to address, though. Several reviews have mentioned how odd it seems for Maura to refer to her mother as Caelyn instead of Mom for much of the book. I found this to be a brilliant touch of ‘showing’ instead of ‘telling’. I got it, I really did. Caelyn had her daughter at a very young age, and in some ways, the two of them have grown up together. Caelyn is fiercely protective of her daughter, but she is emotionally dependent on her too, and in several ways, she’s allowed Maura to take over the role of parent. They have an extremely complicated relationship, and all of the secrets between them don’t help them to understand each other.

I’m extremely impressed by the excellent way this book was written. Good writing is a combination of learned skill and innate talent, and Ms. Melanson has both. I love discovering new writers, and I look forward to watching her career blossom. If you’re wondering whether to give this book a shot, just download the free sample, and see how fast it gets you hooked!

The Boy From the Streets by Maria Gibbs

Good afternoon! I just finished reading “The Boy From the Streets” by Maria Gibbs, and wanted to share it with you all. I’ll leave a link at the bottom because really, I cannot explain how good this book is. You just have to read it. Below is my official review. Go check it out.

Give me a book that can make me feel something. Let me fall in love, rage against injustice, weep for what is lost. “The Boy from the Streets” delivered it all.

At first blush, it seems to be a modern take on “The Prince and the Pauper.” Without giving away too much of the plot, Pedro and Jose are separated at birth. One boy is adopted by wealthy parents while the other is discarded like so much trash. Years later, they’re reunited, and that’s about where the similarities end with, “The Prince and the Pauper.”

Every time I thought I had this book figured out, it twisted. I lost sleep reading well into the night. I picked it up again when I woke. I spent an hour choking back tears while my husband looked at me as if I’d lost my mind. My poor dog brought me his favorite toy to comfort me. Still, I continued reading to the bittersweet ending.

I absolutely loved it! I’d recommend this book to anyone who loves a well-written tale. The descriptions are beautifully done, and the story speaks to the endurance of the human spirit. Brava to Ms. Gibbs. She’s quickly becoming one of my all-time favorite authors.

Death… comes for everyone eventually, but Izzy Maitland plans to live forever. At nearly eighteen years old, it’s not an unreasonable goal, but Fate has other plans. Izzy has a car accident. A bad one. Suddenly, strange things start happening and her ordinary life is turned upside down. She wakes up tasting blood, more often than not, and her injuries heal at an alarming rate. Her friends and family weaken, and every day, Izzy grows stronger. Strangest of all, she seems to have acquired a stalker, and he might be the Angel of Death.

I have some other exciting news to share, too. “Wings of Darkness” is going to be available soon on Audible! It should be ready around the 1st of May, 2016. The incredible Angel Clark and Greg Salinas are narrating and I can’t wait to get my grubby little hands on the finished product.

And… book 3 is finally on its way! I know I’m running behind schedule for this one, and I’m really sorry. Hopefully it will be worth everyone’s wait. I’m still on a tentative schedule to publish it July, 2016.

Have a great day and happy reading!
