When One Stars Happen Make Creativity Flourish

Part of being a writer is running the risk that someone out there is not going to like what you put out. I've always known that I'm not for everyone.

A few days ago, my publisher informed me that someone had given me a one star for Vocal Remedy. I hadn't been around much. I've mainly been working on my other projects, to tell you guys the truth. I don't stalk Smashwords, Goodreads, or Scribd to see if I've gotten feedback.

Man was my publisher hot! When I looked at the one liner, I did see why. As far as anything constructive to say (as far as what wasn't liked about it) the review didn't do that. All I could do was laugh.

Certain things can be motivators for even more and this is one of those things. (chuckles and winks)

I'm sure it won't be the last time I receive a less than stellar review on anything. There are people out there who give one star reviews just because they can. They might not have even read the book.

It all boils down to how it's handled.

Keep Your Marketing Ploy Out of Someone Else's Spotlight

I just saw something recently that made me want to spit shine my sickle.

Just recently, All Authors announced the first recipient of the All Authors Certificate of Excellence award. I like to see when people do well, when a person actually is recognized and truly earns stuff.

That award was given to Jazz Baby. Have I ever read the book? No. But the fact that so many people have given rave reviews on this work makes me want to check it out (and borrow someone's copy..he he he).

Any way, as soon as the announcement was made, it didn't take long for someone to water down the spotlight with his own marketing piss. I hate to make this thing so graphic but think of it like this:

Let's say you won an award for something. The last thing you want to hear is someone clapping and being like, "How can I get that?"

Like All Authors handing out free certificates and seals just because! Seriously, WTF?

So this existence of flesh who has lost all touch with reality comes on and says "Congrats" followed by "How can I get considered?"

I'm like, "Why can't this flaming pile of horse feces just congratulate one author without trying to make himself seem like he's on the same caliber or better than the guy who just got the distinction?"

Disingenuous dipwad!

Clap and STFU!

I'm just going to put it like this: If you do good work and it's put in front of the right people your spotlight will come right on time.

What makes this individual seem like an uncaring self-serving prick who causes shame in the writing game is what they call in some parts of the south "begging ass mofos".

In other words:
(1) Always talking about you're the best rather than just acting like the best
(2) Always chiming in on how you can do something better rather than giving kudos to someone who has accomplished what you are setting out to do
(3) Acting like you are entitled to something and ordaining yourself as something great when you are only one-eighth of the corner of being mediocre
(4) Not knowing the time to congratulate and the time to state your case

One doesn't have to beg for what is deserved. He should wait his turn, Instead of acting like some desperate chic in the club getting in front of a dude and his boys waiting to get noticed.

This doesn't just go for him but anyone else who is doing this passive aggressive stuff. It won't gather you sales; it will just remind people of the type of character you really are.

If a MANN can invade why can't I?

So I was looking around on All Authors Blog and I discovered a MANN invasion was taking place. How can someone spew introvert and narcissism in the same breath? Like how can you go around talking about "I'm the MANN," but you shy? GTFOH with all of that.

It's a MANN Invasion

Just kidding, Adonis. Don't get your set in a pinch. All I'm trying to say is that if you can do an invasion, why can't I?

Since I don't respond to can't, I just did! Check out my rising invasion.

A Rising Invasion

When Stuff's Done Right, I Spit On It

I'm not the type to gush over anything, but when stuff is done right, I'm the first to speak on it.

At times, I'm not the easiest to get along with. I can range from not caring a whole lot to being very particular about what I want.

When "Vocal Remedy" was completed quite honestly I didn't know what the sam hell I wanted for it. It was one of those I know it when I see it.

Then one day, I saw this bomb ass cross that fit right up my alley and told All Authors Graphic Design, "Hey I want to use THIS! Can you make it happen?"

And make it happen they did.

You should check them out. They do great work. If their work was crappy, you think I'd do a blog post about them?

New Kid on the Block

Howdy. While I'm finalizing my debate on whether to go with Wordpress or Blogger I figured I'd get the party started and do some talking of sorts on here.

Not sure if they allow cussing on here because at times I just say what comes to mind without filtering it.

I joke with my publisher All Authors Publishing House that they should have a PR ER kit on standby. PR= Public Relations, ER kit= Emergency Kit. I don't sugarcoat and I'm not politically correct.

My name may look a bit tricky to pronounce; let me see if I can help:

Da'= like "duh"
Khar= like "car"
ta= like...well, "ta"

Rising is how it looks.

If this is still too much of a challenge for you, then you are permitted to address me as:

1. "D"
2. "Kar"
3. "DR"

If you call me by the ones below you are guaranteed to get ignored (or some side eye):

1. "Da Da" (Do I look like your daddy?)
2. "Ta Ta" (Do I look like a titty?)
3. "Mrs. Rising" (I'm a female yes but it makes me sound hella old.)

And last but not least:

4. "Rising"

I have a thing about people addressing me just by my last name--whether it is vocally or by e-mail.

I wouldn't address you by just your last name. If I know your first name, I use it. If I don't, I will use a salutation and a last name but never just your last name.

Not that the rules are in play, let's talk.
