We Are Priceless!

For we are God's masterpieceIn Capturing Beauty, because of past events, my heroine (Callie) has trouble really believing that she is one of God’s beautiful creations. She knows it in her head, but her heart denies it.

How many of us feel the same way? We know what the Bible says about His creation, but when it comes to really believing that we’re beautiful, how many of us deny that? (Raising my hand here.)

It was my hope in writing Capturing Beauty that I’d show that each one of us is a masterpiece! Each one of us is “fearfully and wonderfully made” and we are priceless!

I love the word’s to For King and Country‘s recent release, “Priceless.” I know Callie would love them too!

But years of separation between Nate and Maggie have taken a toll and Maggie struggles to trust her old friend. Will the search for the truth about her parents’ death draw the two friends closer or leave them both with broken hearts? (Historical Romance from Waterbrook Multnomah)

the-bounty-hunter's-babyThe Bounty Hunter’s Baby by Erica Vetsch — Bounty hunter Thomas Beaufort has no problem handling outlaws, but when he’s left with a criminal’s baby to care for, he’s in over his head. One Week Until CAPTURING BEAUTY Releases!

Capturing BeautyOnly one week left until CAPTURING BEAUTY will be officially released! This will be my sixth published book, and although authors aren’t supposed to choose favorites, this one is close to my heart. I adore both Callie and Haven (heroine and hero) and my early readers have also fallen in love with them. I also believe the message is very pertinent to today’s world where first impressions are given great credence and outward beauty is what’s valued.

Hopefully Capturing Beauty turns that on its head.

Here’s more about Capturing Beauty ~

He’s a nature photographer returning to make amends. She’s a camera-shy naturalist seeking privacy. Their love for a boy brings them together, but the camera could drive them apart.

Photographer Haven Carlysle is a changed man. Six years earlier, he had run from his tragedy-filled life in Duluth. Now he’s back in town to capture the North Shore’s beauty … and to recapture the love of his son. But that means making amends with his ex-girlfriend too. When camera-leery Callie Beaumont steps in to bridge the relationship between Haven and his former family, he’s wary, but she’s his only hope.

Callie Beaumont is surrounded by beauty. Her parents are local news celebrities. Her sister is a model. And Callie is … Ordinary. All her life, Callie has longed to work outdoors soaking up God-breathed beauty, and the opportunity is finally on the horizon. But being the liaison between the handsome photographer and his son has thrown her dreams, and her heart, into chaos.

Can Haven capture her heart when she won’t let him capture her image? And will his poor choices cost Callie her dream job and him the love of his son?

Until February 7, Capturing Beauty is on a pre-order sale, only $2.99 for the Kindle version! It goes up to $5.99 upon release, so order your copy now!

Spotlight on Author Pamela Meyers! + Giveaway

*** Book Giveaway ***

See contest rules below

Pamela MeyersI’m pleased to welcome author Pamela Meyers today! Before I had the opportunity to *meet* Pamela, I certainly knew who she was, not just from her novels, but from her many activities in the writing community. She’s definitely someone who pays her gift forward, and what a blessing she is to both writers and readers!

To celebrate the book birthday of Pamela’s new release, she stopped by to answer a few questions, but first here’s the back cover blurb from Second Chance Love:

Chicago lawyer Sydney Knight and Texas bull rider Jace McGowan have nothing in common but everything to lose when they are thrust together during a weekend rodeo in rural Illinois. Neither one of them would have imagined two years ago that the deep attraction they sensed during a day-long outing would resurface when Sydney’s boss assigns her to Jace’s legal case.

Sydney has been through a world of hurt since losing her dad when she was sixteen, then being dumped the morning of her wedding. She’s sworn off romance and instead devotes her time toward a partnership in her father’s law office.

Jace has found faith in God and wants out of his sponsor contract with a risqué restaurant chain that requires him to pose with scantily-clad women. He’s about to bail on the contract and pay steep penalties—something he can ill afford, given that his deceased father left the family with unpaid taxes.

Sydney is determined she’ll get Jace out of his contract and return to Chicago with her heart intact, but Jace is just as determined to help her see they are meant to be together. Can a city girl with roots deep in Chicago and a bull-riding rancher with roots deep in Texas give themselves a second-chance love?

Sounds fun, doesn’t it? I can’t wait to read it!

Now let me introduce you to Pamela ~

Second Chance Love by Pamela MeyersThanks for visiting today, Pamela, and congratulations on your January release! How exciting! Can you tell us about Second Chance Love? (BTW – Love the cover!) What inspired this book?

Ever since I was a child, cowboys have attracted me. I love the mystique of a strong man on a horse, riding the range and driving cattle. I’ve been attending the Pioneer City Rodeo in southern Illinois for over ten years. It takes place in a very small community every Labor Day weekend. Each time we attended the rodeo I felt a stronger and stronger urge to set a story there. My favorite event is the bull riding and I quickly decided my hero had to be a bull rider and I mused how could a Chicago attorney who has strong ties to the city fall hard enough for a handsome rodeo cowboy from Texas that she’d be willing to leave what she knows to be with him. Out of that came my story. The story itself has been through a couple makeovers. One storyline didn’t gel with my acquiring editor, so it was back to another brainstorming session with one of my author friends and out of that came the one that became SCL.

Love that the concept is so different from other cowboy stories! What do you hope your readers take away from the story?

The Bible says that God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but so often even the strongest of believers go through times when they are scared to fully trust God and take a risk. Sometimes that fear can be almost paralyzing. This is the situation with Sydney Knight, my heroine. It is my hope and prayer that readers, in addition to enjoying an entertaining read, will learn that the proverb that says to trust God with all our hearts and not lean on our own understanding, can apply to whatever their situation might be. As a young Christian, I didn’t do that and paid the consequences for making a bad mistake by relying on myself. Mine wasn’t the same scenario as Sydney’s but I think it can be applied to many situations.

That’s an important lesson that I have to keep learning. Could you tell us about your journey to publication?

I got kind of a late start in my writing journey. I always have had the “need” to write things down and created stories during my childhood while playing with my paperdolls, but the pieces didn’t all fit into the puzzle until I returned to college in my forties to get my bachelors. I enrolled in an accelerated adult program that required a lot of writing (no tests!) and I also took a lot of writing courses for my upper level electives, including creative writing. That course and encouragement from my writing prof encouraged me to take more fiction writing courses outside of the college venue. The Write to Publish conference is local to me and the first time I attended I took a short story with me for input during an author appointment with Gayle Roper. She looked at the story and said, “You could make this into a novel.” My jar dropped. Me? Write a book? She assured me it was very possible and that was the beginning of a rather long journey. Around the same time I joined American Christian Fiction Writers (ACFW) and began attending ACFW conferences. Their workshops, the crit groups and mentoring from other more advanced authors propelled me forward. After many rejections, I finally signed my first contract in 2011 and two more followed soon after that. Since then I’ve gotten my rights back on the first two novels and have already indie published that one after editing it and giving it a new cover. I also indie published a novella in a novella collection last fall called The Bucket List Dare, and now this month, Second Chance Love, a rodeo inspirational romance, is releasing.

And the most important question: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, white chocolate, or no chocolate?

Dark Chocolate, hands down.

Thanks again, Pamela, for visiting today! Praying God will richly bless your continuing journey.

Psalm 139 – Fearfully and Wonderfully Made!

Psalm 139

Psalm 139

You have searched me, Lord,

and you know me.

You know when I sit and when I rise;

you perceive my thoughts from afar.

You discern my going out and my lying down;

you are familiar with all my ways.

Before a word is on my tongue

you, Lord, know it completely.

You hem me in behind and before,

and you lay your hand upon me.

Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,

too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your Spirit?

Where can I flee from your presence?

If I go up to the heavens, you are there;

if I make my bed in the depths, you are there.

If I rise on the wings of the dawn,

if I settle on the far side of the sea,

even there your hand will guide me,

your right hand will hold me fast.

If I say, “Surely the darkness will hide me

and the light become night around me,”

even the darkness will not be dark to you;

the night will shine like the day,

for darkness is as light to you.

For you created my inmost being;

you knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;

your works are wonderful,

I know that full well.

My frame was not hidden from you

when I was made in the secret place,

when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.

Your eyes saw my unformed body;

all the days ordained for me were written in your book

before one of them came to be.

How precious to me are your thoughts,God!

How vast is the sum of them!

Were I to count them,

they would outnumber the grains of sand—

when I awake, I am still with you.

If only you, God, would slay the wicked!

Away from me, you who are bloodthirsty!

They speak of you with evil intent;

your adversaries misuse your name.

Do I not hate those who hate you, Lord,

and abhor those who are in rebellion against you?

I have nothing but hatred for them;

I count them my enemies.

Search me, God, and know my heart;

test me and know my anxious thoughts.

See if there is any offensive way in me,

and lead me in the way everlasting.

Have you ever met someone and said, “I want to be like them when I grow up.”? Someone who lives their faith out loud, who is truly the hands and feet of Jesus. For me, that person is Tamara Jorell. I met Tamara through MN-NICE, our local chapter of ACFW, and have been blessed getting to know her. She, along with her amazing family, set the example of serving for all of us. I encourage you to click over to her excellent blog, My Blonde Life in the Hood, and you’ll see what I mean.

I’m honored to introduce you to Tamara Jorell!

Spotlight on Joyce Ackermann

Joyce AckermannI had the pleasure of meeting Joyce Ackermann back in November when our county library had their first annual local author fair, and our tables sat side by side. What a joy it was getting to know her!

Joyce’s debut, SCATTERED: FINDING GOD IN YOUR STORY, is a highly-recommended inspirational read. I’m excited to introduce you to this budding new author who writes with amazing beauty and honesty and courage!

Joyce’s Author Journey

Thank you, Brenda, for having me on your blog, I’m thrilled to be here today.

I have to be honest, my journey started with just one, itty, bitty word.

“Write.”

I had spent the better part of the past 25 years looking back over a life I had been given that I didn’t understand.

And I so desperately needed to understand.

So, when God said, “Write”.

I took the pen God was handing me and I wrote.

Writing became a refuge for me.

A secret place for me to meet God and talk to him about all of the fears that continually haunted me. Those unspoken fears from a childhood I had spent the better part of my life trying to hide from.

Ten years of writing and healing.

Ten years of choosing courage over fear.

Ten years of believing in a God who I would find, had been fighting to reach my heart.

And as cheesy as this is going to sound, walking through the writing and publishing process has taught me that freedom is found in the journey.

Sounds like a sentiment on a tea bag.

I know.

But there’s a lot of wisdom on those tea bags.

Like the one that says, “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step”.

This journey has been one of a thousand miles and a million miracles.

One being that I didn’t die in the process of writing this book.

I’m serious.

Writing a book is like having a baby.

I’ve done both.

Hand me that epidural.

I’ll take the childbirth please.

Did you know that the female body produces hormones that cause you to forget how painful childbirth is?

. . .So that you’ll do it again.

. . .And so you’ll encourage your friends to have lots of babies too.

Because, No, of course it didn’t hurt that bad.

Uh, riiiiiiggght.

I think authors must produce those same hormones after publishing a book.

So, either because I don’t think it’s fair that I should suffer alone or because my body is pumping me full of hormones that are helping me to forget how painful writing a book can be, I am a big, scratch that – make that – HUGE fan of people writing as a form of healing and connecting with the heart of who God is.

I’m not crazy.

Promise.

No, really – I’m actually pretty normal.

Believe me, I know it can be a scary thing to pour your heart and soul into something concrete that people can point to and criticize.

But writing is this white space where we get to be real with God.

Our secret place with him.

A place where we can share our journeys without judgement and receive the healing we so desperately need.

God is a safe place to hide,

ready to help when we need him.

Psalm 46:1 (The Message)

And it’s here where we are held as he whispers to us, “The true victories as an author are not necessarily how many readers pick up your books but whether or not you had the courage to write them in the first place.”

My hope is that whether you are a reader or a writer or a fantastic mix of both, that you’ll find the same courage and freedom in your own story.

About Joyce ~

Joyce is a normal person. . . mostly. She is a wife, mom of 3 amazing kids and a chubby beagle who holds the record for being the best, worst dog ever. She homeschools her kids, sings loudly in the car, & blogs on her Write Nites, which she believes are all reasons to drink obscene amounts of Starbucks. You can follow her at www.joyceackermann.com.

Scattered About Scattered ~

Have you wondered where God has been hiding?

Do you struggle to share the deepest, darkest places of your past with anyone?

Do you wish you could make sense of your life?

Have you questioned where God has been hiding all this time?

You are not alone.

Scattered is a book about finding God in the toughest moments of your personal story, through writing. A book about reaching out and discovering that healing is never more than a few words away. It is a collection of conversations over coffee, sharing someone else’s story and finding the courage to tell your own.

Heartfelt, funny, and a fresh perspective on finding God was never more than a keystroke away.

Scattered
