Learn Korean Ep. 125: Saying “Each” Using 에 & 씩

Wow, it's been a long time since I've seen my friend Jinyoung! It'd be great to hang out with her again, so I'll have Keykat set up a meeting place with her. I sure hope she can find the address on time.

This lesson covers the Intermediate Level concepts ~에 and ~씩, which are used to mean "each," "a," "for," or "per." These can be attached after nouns.

Also make sure to get your free PDF version of this lesson (and every lesson in the "Learn Korean" series) by clicking the download link right below this video~!

This is the sequel to the last live stream we did, and this one is all about the verb endings ~거든(요), 잖아(요), and ~고(요). Between this lesson and the last one, we've now re-taught my original first live stream from back in 2018. What other topics should I teach next? You can let me know here on my web site, or anywhere else you can find me.

Korean markets from the 70s and 80s | Seoul Folk Flea Market

I met up with 샘물 from the channel "Your Korean Saem" (formerly "All Things Korean") and we explored what it would've been like to visit a Korean marketplace in the 1970s and 1980s. And we also found a real Squid Game there~!

Important Hanja: 고 (高) and 저 (低) (한자) | Korean FAQ

Learn how to use the Hanja for 고 (高) and 저 (低) in today's newest Korean FAQ episode!

These can mean "high" and "low," and appear in several common words and situations.

I re-uploaded this video with a fix because I'd written the wrong 저 on the board. What happened is I had written the wrong Hanja in my script, so when filming I simply copied my mistake right to the board. I'll be more careful of these sort of typos in the future.

When someone asks why you're learning Korean | Comedy Skit

I met up with 샘물 from the YouTube channel "Your Korean Saem" and we filmed this comedy skit together. The idea was a Korean learner who is a bit embarrassed to explain why they're learning Korean.

As a Korean teacher, I interact with learners who are interested in Korean for a variety of reasons - everything from Korean music to other media, to the country itself, or simply to the language. Whatever your reason, it's wonderful that so many people are interested in Korean and studying it.

So I wanted to make a funny skit about how although it might be common these days for most people to start learning Korean because of K-pop, that it doesn't really matter as long as you're interested in Korean. And keep in mind that Native Korean speakers are more than happy to know that you're trying to learn their language.

Always remember, it’s okay to learn Korean no matter your reason. You can do it! Keep calm, and study Korean!

Reacting to my OLD Korean speaking videos | feat. Hyunwoo from TTMIK

Hyunwoo (from TTMIK) and I watched some of my old Korean speaking videos together. While many of these I know (such as one of my oldest videos from 2008), many of the others I was watching for the very first time. We critiqued how I sounded, and how I improved (or got worse?) over the years. You can clearly hear differences in how I'm speaking Korean between each year. We analyzed clips from 2008 and 2010, a few years between, and then yearly from 2016 until 2021.

~답시고 & ~(이)랍시고 Disappointed Contrast | Live Class Abridged

Almost every Sunday I've been doing a live Korean classroom on my YouTube channel, teaching topics that were voted on by everyone. This last Sunday's topic was decided to be ~답시고 and ~(이)랍시고, which are Advanced level grammar forms used to show contrast, as well as to express sarcasm or disappointment.

The full live stream was nearly 2 hours, but the shortened version here is just over 15 minutes. Note that this is an Advanced level form and requires first understanding quoting forms to use it.
