Soccer
I truly enjoy "the beautiful game" and haven't a clue why people say it is boring. Watching the US-Germany game in the newsroom I am one of only four paying any attention. The rest are tolerant of our muted outbursts and intense debate about what is needed to move on to the 16.
How do you feel about soccer? Are you watching?

Bird Watching
Going bird watching tomorrow and I am looking forward to it. The last time I went was in the winter and it was too darn cold. I was thinking more of numb toes and frozen fingers than owl pellets and pileated woodpeckers.
This time around should be warmer and maybe there will be some deer (as long as they stay away from car) and foxes or beavers along with our feathered friends.
We can't go near the bald eagle nesting area but maybe we will see them over the river. Should be a great way to start the weekend.

Folk music is back
Folk and bluegrass music is back in my life. After too many years of indie rock...which is good, don't get me wrong...folk is back.
It started with a neighborhood home concert by Jenni and Billy who focus on Appalachian tunes. Then an old acquaintance popped up who plays and writes for Sing Out! magazine.
When Pete Seeger left us to play for a bigger audience upstairs, I remembered the Weavers but didn't act. Now, I am looking for their music and stories...and reveling in performers like Steve Martin. Who knew he was so good?
Give me a good banjo song any day.

Toilet Paper Wars
Does it really matter how the toilet paper comes of the roll? Over the top or from the bottom? Whatever your preference, never declare defeat.
A visitor this week did battle with my husband over the issue. It was a stealth war based on locked bathroom doors and dexterity. Attacks began Sunday and by Thursday one party exclaimed "I can't take it any more!"
I claimed neutrality with a frustrated "Let it go. It's only toilet paper."
Ah, but that party prevailed, or there was a negotiated peace I did not hear about. For the remaining three days, the toilet paper came off the top of the roll.
What would -you- do if your toilet paper habits were turned upside down?
