LibraryThing Giveaway (Again!)
The month of July marks another opportunity for serious readers with a mind towards book reviews to enter for a chance to win a free copy of The School of Homer. We had a good response on Goodreads (3,822 entrants for 15 copies) and LibraryThing earlier this year in May (538 entrants for 10 copies), and we hope for similar interest for the 5 copies up for grabs right now. James K. Polk and His Time: Essays at the Conclusion of the Polk Project, ed. Michael David Cohen, receives an honorable mention as a finalist for the Tennessee History Book Award presented by the Tennessee Historical Society
My contributing chapter, “The Capacity of Republican Governments”: James K. Polk and the Presidency during the Mexican War, was obviously critical (joking, of course!)
I was quite honored to contribute my scholarship to this volume and am happy to see all the contributors–and Dr. Cohen–recognized for their work!

Murder with a glass of malvasia, update #1
The drafting of the sequel to The School of Homer is underway. The research for Virgil Colvin #2 took a long time, including travel and reading between 2021 and late 2022/early 2023, but we are now full steam ahead. Almost done with Chapter 5! This is first drafting stage, which is basically a very bulky fleshing out of the outline. Editing will be intense, but I am determined to get through the writing quickly so as to dive into Virgil Colvin #3–Midway to Death! More updates soon!
