E-book Piracy

Yesterday I unpublished my Taking Lance stories from Smashwords and knew to check the affiliate sites (B & N, Apple, etc.) to see when they are removed so I can switch from Kindle Direct Publishing to Kindle Select. They came off a couple of the sites (Apple, Kobo) relatively quickly considering I was told it might take weeks. This morning I got on Google to check the other sites. On the second Google page I saw "Download Taking Lance Part One by Candi Kay for FREE!"   I clicked...

Internet Woes and Playing Catch-Up

InspirationAt around noon on Monday my internet died. We all have phones with internet these days, so no big deal, right? Wrong. I live in the middle of nowhere where my cell signal sucks. It's a running joke with my friend that I have to walk out to the middle of my front yard, bounce on one foot and wave my arms around to have a signal to place a call. It's not that bad but it's pretty close. I love living in the country until there are internet issues. Then I'm cussing my location like you...

Writing, Some Thank Yous, Review Copies, and Other

Wow, what a week. Very busy. More than a bit overwhelming, but I got through it.

I put a lot of things in the real world to the side while I focused on trying to get some writing done. When I'm in writing mode, I can't focus on much else. Putting that stuff to the side wasn't smart on my part, but I had to take a slight step back for a bit. Now, I'm trying to play catch-up.

I did manage to get around 18,000 words written of the third Taking Lance story, so that's a big plus. The story had...

Shameless Self-Promotion

It's a given that I suck at self-promotion. I write the stories and get lost in either my own works in progress or books written by others and don't promote stories of mine that are out there. I am very proud of them but I've discovered that I do better promoting others than myself.

I totally suck at self-promotion.

So, this post is dedicated to my two bi-erotica shorts, Taking Lance and Keeping Lance, published everywhere.

Rick Preston, forty, is on the verge of inheriting...

Self-Publishing - Deciding What Works For Me

I hope everyone had a nice weekend. Mine was spent glued to my Kindle. This is something I've not been able to do for awhile but I had some alone time so I took advantage. I read a little bit of everything and I love discovering new authors. That's what the weekend was all about for me - reading stories by authors I'd never read before. I have to say it was pretty awesome. I've found a couple of new favorites, whose work I will be devouring as soon as time allows. I am a huge horror fan (book...

An A ha! Moment

I have been battling with a particular story for weeks.  I worked hard on it and even typed THE END at the bottom of the manuscript.  A proud moment, right?  Well, not in this case.  I read that thing over and over and it just seemed off.  I'm happy with the premise and I love the characters (especially one of them) so all that was good. The resolution came together nicely. There was just enough conflict and angst to keep everything interesting, in my opinion. There w...

This and That

Since it's been awhile since my last post, I'll start with a couple of updates.

The third story, still untitled at this point, in the Taking Lance world is still coming along. The first draft is almost completed but I took a step back when I realized that a couple of things needed to be cleared up in the story and I wasn't quite sure where I wanted to go with them. Inspiration has hit so hopefully I will have it ready to go to my wonderful (and patient) editor in the next couple of weeks...

Review Copy Info

Recently I have gotten a few messages asking for copies of one or both of my Taking Lance stories for review. While most requests have been fine, a couple had me shaking my head. It was stated in these particular messages that "I'm not good with the gay thing but I promise to be fair," or something along those lines.

The 'not being good with the gay thing' is where I have a problem. I am not saying that these messages were rude or openly bigoted. Both were quite nice actually. But if someone i...

The Third Taking Lance Story (WIP)

Lance Scott - 'Borrowed' From a ReviewI am currently working on the still-untitled third story in the Taking Lance series. The first two stories, Taking Lance and Keeping Lance, centered on Rick Preston, a much older man, who wanted - and ultimately fell in love with - his much younger former stepson, Lance Scott. Lance was eighteen in Taking Lance and twenty-one in Keeping Lance. Rick was forty and forty-three.

Rick and Lance got their happily-ever-afte...
