Born in Northeast Ohio, Christa has lived on four different continents (including both sides of Asia)and traveled extensively. She has an extremely elaborate fantasy life and has been known to forget that the bands she made up don't exist to the extent that she has shopped for their albums on iTunes.

Both of them are very innocent but determined. Sybil never seems to feel she's in over her head whens he commits to becoming a nurse and forges ahead when it's difficult, so I get the feeling that, as a middle-class housewife in Dublin, she was the same way. Tom is an idealist and he's surprised when the tzar's family is shot and later when that family's house is burned in Dublin and he has to run and leave Sybil behind. He is almost more naive than Sybil and needs her strength. She needs his independence to break free of the suffocating life she's been born to. I would have loved to see a spin off show of their lives in Dublin.

Ask me next week and it might be Ronan Dex and Jennifer Keller on Stargate Atlantis or Georgianna and Darcy from Rhys Bowen's Royal Spyness series (though that might not be until summer because I think that's when the next book is due.)(less)

I’m back

So, I disappeared for quite a while. During the early days of the pandemic, I was stressed and keeping busy working on my house. Then I was recruited to be a graduate assistant. I’ve spent the last 2 years earning a Master’s degree in English with certificates in TESOL, Writing, and Literature. Working part-time and going to school full-time left me with no time to devote to writing for publicatio

This was awful. Tropes and cliches mashed together with trendy nonsense. I was at a solid 3 stars until the irrational ending. Yikes. I really liked other books by this author too.

“No. Not another dime.” The man at the table said into the phone. “The sucker bank is closed.” Sucker bank. Good one. Alex gestured at the bare table, nothing but the daisy in the little vase in the center and a half empty sugar caddy.”
Christa Maurice, Waiting For a Girl Like You

“The plate looked like five-star quality. Mushroom sauce trailed artfully over a thick, juicy steak. The baked potato should have been on the cover of a magazine. The crisp, golden skin split to allow a perfect square of rich yellow butter to melt into the fluffy mash with a sprinkling of fresh chives over top. The herbs had been clipped just this morning from the garden Paul maintained in his backyard. The salad balanced in such a perfect tower that Alex wasn’t sure she’d get it to the table without having it topple over. A crystal wine glass filled with jewel-toned red wine completed the meal.”

I don't normally set a reading goal for the year. Some years I read a lot, some not as much. But I have a 3 page wishlist for the library!
