Aeropress espresso
worked a lot better than trying to use the americano recipe we use at Avenue G. I’m still getting some acidity and bitterness though which I’m sure is because of water temperature and extraction time.
I basically need to build a whole new system/recipe for home, figuring out water temperature is the hard part - how do you do that with a stovetop kettle? It’s looking like I’m going to need a thermometer at least to figure out an initial method.
I’m using a Colombia single origin from North Star Roasters which I really love; I’m glad I didn’t decide to try the Guatemala for home because knowing how the Colombia’s MEANT to taste and being more familiar with it is really important and helpful. I’m definitely getting SOME of the toffee-ness but there’s an edge there that shouldn’t be. It’s alright with milk. I’ll keep fiddling with it.
I’m really excited about the prospect of really good coffee at home, since I basically can’t enjoy it at work anymore because tasting so much espresso just drains away any desire for it. But it’s a lot more work than I expected. It’ll take a bit of time I guess.
