Featured - Author Interview with Susanne Bellamy & Spotlight on "Second Chance Love"

I love second chance romance novels because of the interesting possibilities of character development - and this Aussie author is a friend of mine, so I'm double happy to present today's blog post. Ladies and gents, please give it up for an author interview with Susanne Bellamy and her latest release "Second Chance Love"! Picture Author Interview with Susanne Bellamy 1) What do you like most about being an author? What least?

Hearing from readers that my stories have given them pleasure, working from home, occasionally in PJs, and being my own boss (possibly a little bit of control freak showing here), AND I get to weave stories about people I create in places I want to be. (Seriously, if you’re looking for love, Bindarra Creek is the Aussie hot-spot!)

2) As your latest book is titled “Second Chance Love”, tell us what fascinates you about the sub-genre of ‘second chance love’.

We all make mistakes, misread a situation, or follow a path we wish we could escape from at some point in our lives. Getting a second chance is precious, especially when it involves our emotional well-being and happiness. I like to think that, even though we can’t rewrite the past, the opportunity for ‘another go’ exists. I’ve carried that idea into a short Christmas story I’ve just written for an anthology due out early November.

3) What made you decide to write your first rural romance, and was there any challenge in it?

Even though I’m a Queenslander (go the Maroons!), I was invited to join several members of the Hunter River Writers’ Group who had created this wonderful fictional community of Bindarra Creek. They had drafted a map, set up lists of character types and created a history for the area based on similar northern NSW towns. It was so well organized that, even though I hadn’t written a ‘rural’ romance before, I couldn’t resist challenging myself. I loved it! And being a book nerd, of course I asked for the librarian character.

Although I’ve lived in an inland city much of my adult life, I taught in small, rural towns for a couple of years. The sense of community is strong and I wanted to acknowledge that quality through my story.

4) One morning, you wake up and find yourself in a country you’ve never visited, with the instructions to build a new life from scratch. What do you do?

Sit in a café and watch and listen. Take a ride in a taxi and chat with the driver. Find a talkative landlady and get a roof over my head. Then – start writing!

5) Is there a question you have always hoped somebody would ask you? (Feel free to answer it, too.)

Would you like to be the first writer to travel in my space shuttle? Why, thank you, Mr. Branson, I’d love to.

6) To you, what qualities should a great hero have?

A great hero should have certain key qualities, even if takes time for them to be revealed. For me, these include: valuing family, being honest and ethical (I can live with a white lie in a story), a strong protective streak . . . Oh, and the strength to resist and save the last glass of wine for me. ;)

7) As you write from Australia, can you summarize your country for us in 5 words?

Laid-back, large (I drove for 28 hours and didn’t leave Queensland!), ancient, a land of contrasts. Dorothea McKellar’s poem, My Country, sums up this land beautifully (http://www.dorotheamackellar.com.au/archive/mycountry.htm ) (Maths was never my strongest subject)

8) Do you have any writing rituals?

I need a cup of tea before any neurons start firing. Usually, I clear emails, check social media, and by that time, I’m awake enough to begin writing. Salt and vinegar chips are vital when I hit a plot snag or seek a character motivation. Feed me those, and my fingers fly!

9) Is there another country you’d love to choose as your setting?

Antarctica!
So far, I’ve set stories in Hawaii, Italy, Nepal (yet to be published) and Australia, with occasional scenes set in other countries. I have plans for character visits in France and Africa, and probably San Francisco in the USA in the next book.

10) Please tell us more about your latest book(s) and plans for the future.

My next book, Second Chance Love, is my first rural romance and releases on 20th September. It is the third book in A Bindarra Creek Romance, a series set in a fictional small town in New South Wales. 13 authors, 13 stories, over 13 months.

As for what’s next:

Several south-east Queensland writer friends are releasing an anthology in early November. My story is The Wish List, a sweet short story of second chances, but not quite what you might expect!

And after revisions are complete on my Nepal-set romantic suspense, I’ll be plotting book two in my protector series and visiting more of the men and women of a secret task force.

Picture About the Book Blurb:

When Claire Swenson inherits her great-aunt’s home and returns to Bindarra Creek as town librarian, Angus McGregor is the first person she meets.
The second is his eleven-year old son.
Just because Angus wants a second chance doesn't mean that Claire will put aside her determination not to commit to a relationship.
No matter how sexy he is, or how well they work together as they fight for the community and to save Angus’ property.
Can he convince Claire that love is sweeter the second time around?

Excerpt:

Angus watched Claire’s soft pink lips close around the two wide straws in her milkshake and his groin tightened. The last milkshake they’d shared, she had one straw, and he had the other. Holding hands across the table, their foreheads had touched as they bent over the anodised pastel-pink beaker.
In those days, one touch of Claire and his body had fired up with desire. Rampant teenage hormones sent them off to the creek where they shared lime-flavoured kisses. And more.
Some things hadn’t changed. He leaned forward, hoping his jacket covered his reaction to her. “Are they as good as you remember?”
Claire held up one finger and closed her eyes as she drank. In repose, her face had a classical, serene beauty that his fingers longed to trace—the line of her jaw, the arch of her eyebrows, the fullness of her lips.
Beside him, Ollie sat on the edge of his seat and watched her intently, his own drink forgotten as he waited for her reply.
She sat back and met Ollie’s gaze. “Heavenly. Your dad was right. Lime is definitely the best—still.” She licked her bottom lip, finishing in the corner.
Angus bit back a groan and dipped his head to his straw. Short of diving into his milkshake, he wasn’t going to be able to quench his definite interest in Claire anytime soon.
“See, Dad, I told you Miss Swenson would love lime, same as you and me.” Apparently satisfied with his success, Ollie tucked into his drink followed by the house special, a giant hamburger with chips and sweet chilli sauce on the side.
But just because Claire still preferred lime milkshakes didn’t mean Angus knew the grown up woman. Was she still into Powderfinger and Midnight Oil? Did she still adore ‘Die Hard’ movies? And right then, he knew he would be renewing his relationship with Claire.
“Have you moved into Margaret’s house?”
Claire nodded and swallowed her mouthful. “Yes. There’s a lot of sorting to do but it’s nice being back there, even though she’s gone. I miss her so much. There’s no smell of baking wafting through the house, and I miss her singing. She always sang, except when she was digging in the garden.”
“Mum sang too.” Ollie took another bite of his burger and chewed. “At least, I think she did. Didn’t she, Dad?” Ollie’s question hit like a thump in Angus’ stomach.
“Sometimes.” Angus often wondered how much Ollie remembered of his mother, despite his efforts to keep her memory alive for his son. He turned to Claire. “Oliver was just two when Laura died. Breast cancer,” he added, hoping to forestall Claire’s inevitable question. The ache of his wife’s passing had dulled over time and yet he’d never been tempted into another relationship.
Until now.
Claire’s reappearance in town coupled with this trip down memory lane stirred more than memories as though it were only yesterday they’d made out down by the creek. A twinge of guilt pricked him.
Nine years was a long time. He’d never forget Laura but maybe Claire’s return now was meant to be. They’d been good together and clearly, Ollie was quite taken by Claire.
Images of cosy domesticity filtered through his mind. She was good with Ollie and appeared to genuinely like him. Was it possible that this time, if he asked her, she might be tempted to stay? With him and Ollie, permanently?

About The Author

Sundari Venkatraman
Even as a kid, Sundari absolutely loved the ‘lived happily ever after’ syndrome as she grew up reading all the fairy tales she could lay her hands on, Phantom comics, Mandrake comics and the like. It was always about good triumphing over evil and a happy end.

Soon, into her teens, Sundari switched her attention from fairy tales to Mills & Boon. While she loved reading both of these, she kept visualising what would have happened if there were similar situations happening in India; to a local hero and heroine. Her imagination took flight and she always lived in a rosy cocoon of romance over the years.

Then came the writing – a true bolt out of the blue! She could never string two sentences together. While her spoken English had always been excellent – thanks to her Grandpa – she couldn’t write to save her life.

All this changed suddenly one fine day in the year 2000. She had just quit her job as a school admin and didn’t know what to do with her life. She was saturated with simply reading books. That’s when she returned home one evening after her walk, took some sheets of paper and began writing. It was like watching a movie that was running in her head – all those years of visualising Indian heroes and heroines needed an outlet and had to be put into words. That’s how her first novel, The Malhotra Bride, took shape. While she felt discouraged when publishing didn’t happen, it was her husband who kept encouraging her not to give up.

In the meanwhile, she landed a job as Copy Editor with Mumbai Mirror. After working there for two years, she moved to the Network 18 Group and worked with two of their websites over the next six years, as Content Editor.

Despite her work schedule, she continued to write novels and then short stories and had them published in her blogs. She also blogs voraciously, writing on many different topics – travel, book reviews, film reviews, restaurant reviews, spirituality, alternative health and more.

Her first eBook Double Jeopardy – a romance novella – was published by Indireads and has been very well received by readers of romance.

In 2014, Sundari self-published The Malhotra Bride (2nd Edition); Meghna; The Runaway Bridegroom; Flaming Sun Collection 1: Happily Ever Afters From India (Box Set) and Matches Made In Heaven (a collection of romantic short stories).

2015 brought yet another opportunity. Readomania came forward to traditionally publish this book – The Madras Affair – a mature romance set in Madras.

Featured - Release Blitz for "Dance with the Devil" by Angela Dennis

Dance with the Devil by Angela Dennis Series: Soul’s Harbor Pride, #1Genre: Paranormal Romance
Publisher: Samhain Publishing
Cover DesignerKanaxaRelease Date: September 22, 2015

Born to be enemies. Destined to be lovers.

Soul’s Harbor Pride, Book 1

After killing one of her father’s enforcers, half-blood lion shifter Jillian Winters ran for her life, landing in an upscale bar halfway across the country. Her boss, Carrick—a pure-blood shifter—has no idea his barmaid is a fugitive.

When her father’s recklessness puts the Pride at risk, Jillian must return home and assume his place as Alpha. But not before she indulges in a taste of the attraction that’s been building for years between her and Carrick.

Carrick Granger has had a soft spot for Jillian from the moment she stepped into his bar, soaking wet and afraid of her own shadow. He knows she has secrets. So does he. He’s also the outcast son of an Alpha—and now that his father is dead, he, too, has been summoned home.

Thinking they’ll never see each other again, the simmering heat between them ignites like a match to gunpowder. But then the bullets start flying, forcing them to choose—duty to their Prides, or the one person they can’t live without.

Warning: This book contains deception, lies, betrayal, a sexy lion who is determined to claim his mate, and a mating bond that will change the landscape of the Prides forever.

Her attraction to him was beyond dangerous. But, thankfully, that attraction wasn’t mutual. If it had been, it would have been impossible to turn him away. A smarter person would have left town the second they realized Carrick was a shifter. But, like an idiot, she had stayed, unable to resist being around him during her short stint of freedom.

Even now, the call of the Pride echoed in her mind like the beginnings of a migraine. She massaged her aching temples. Carrick was so close that her hand brushed his shoulder as she reached for her head. Although it was an innocent touch, the heat of his body seared her skin.

Damn it. Fate had a twisted sense of humor. No other man had ever affected her like this.

When he turned, the intention in his green eyes was unmistakable. She stepped back, stunned, heart pounding. With a nervous swallow, she licked her dry lips. He moved closer, eyes focused on her mouth. Torn between flight and surrender, she froze.

Their bodies brushing, Carrick ran his hands down the length of her arms. “How many layers do you have under there?” He squeezed her shoulders gently. “Take them off. I’ll make a fire.” He grasped her hand, tugging her toward the fireplace.

Jillian didn’t move. She couldn’t do this. “Thought you didn’t want to talk?”

“I changed my mind.” He released her hand and moved across the room, crouching before the hearth to kindle the flames.

She couldn’t make herself move, either forward or away. This was her last chance. Once she walked out that door, she was gone forever.

This sequel can be read as a standalone novel.

Picture About the AuthorBristol-born Linn B. Halton lives in the small village of Lydbrook, which nestles on the edge of the Forest of Dean, in the UK. She resides there with her husband and feline with 'catitude'- Mr Tiggs.

Linn began writing in March 2009 and her debut novel was published in February 2011. In a recent interview Linn was asked about genres:

"From a very young age I knew romantic fiction was always going to be my genre. I am, and will always be, madly in love with love! Whether that's love of life, a partner, or the things I'm passionate about.

My stories are about love, life and real relationships - but romance is always the one thing that holds each story together. Often there's a light, psychic touch and I never dreamed I would write drawing upon my personal psychic experiences. But as my interest and understanding in the subject has grown, it is now such a part of my life that it finds its way into my fictional tales. However, what is heartening is that most of my experiences have been uplifting and it's wonderful to know loved ones are around me always. I hope it will make readers stop and wonder 'What if?'

The result is that I get a lot of mail from readers who have had similar experiences and some are sharing theirs for the first time with me. I always feel that's something rather special and for which I'm very grateful."

Love, life and beyond... but it's ALWAYS about the romance!

Linn is published by Choc Lit, HarperImpulse, Endeavour Press and Sapphire Star Publishing.

Creativity against Grief

As many of you might have found out through Facebook, I lost my beloved mother-in-law roughly a month ago. Once things had settled down a little, I tried to come to terms with the whole situation - and I realized one thing: Grief is easier to handle if you are a creative person. We writers write, painters paint, singers have written whole albums to deal with a death or a broken relationship. Creatively dealing with the topic seems to clear the mind, lift a burden off the heart, and help us grapple with the inevitable helplessness.

In this light, I want to share a poem I wrote, a musical composition a friend of mine came up with after losing a loved on, and a blog post another friend of mine wrote after losing someone dear.PicturePoem by Devika FenandoFloating

Are you floating?
Out of space and time
At a different clime
Where heaven’s bells chime

Is it cold?
Like on the silent moon
As you were taken too soon
Not granted a last boon

Is it hot?
Like on the raging sun
As you have come undone
And a new chapter has begun

Do you remember?
Times so joyful and bright
That they shone a light
Even in your darkest plight

Do you recollect?
Every word ever spoken
Every promise ever broken
Like an unused token

Do you recall?
The ones you left behind
Do you even possess a mind?
Are you still of the human kind?

Are you floating?
Like a rudderless, anchorless ship
Or clutched firmly in the grip
Of a purpose-filled trip

Is this a journey?
With no beginning and no end
Where your fate will depend
On a mysterious karmic blend

Do you wonder?
Where you’ll go from here
To another sphere
Unable to interfere

Do you ponder?
How it came to be
That you get to see
Glimpses of infinity

Do you feel anything?
Like a need to move on
Now that world’s sorrows have gone
And your spirit is getting strong

Do you miss?
The world you used to know
Enveloped in a starry glow
Do you want to change and grow?

Are you floating?
In and out of lives
Feeling the pain of loss sharp like knives
Or the hope that some part of you survives

The Story:

"You are in real, real danger." - A school teacher gets a creepy warning in his mailbox. Seven days later, he murders eleven of his students. Two months later, he is gunned down in broad daylight by an obscure militant outfit. Justice served. The nation pacified. Case closed.
But not for two crime reporters. Seeking redemption through this case are Prakash and Seema, ace journalists but broken individuals. As they follow the story, they are led to the ominous wilds of Bandhavgarh where an eerily similar massacre had occurred eight years ago. Little do they know that they have stirred up a hornet's nest.
One by one their leads start turning up in body bags and they are chased by assassins at every corner. Soon they realize that they are pitted against evil powers pervading the business and political DNA of the country, with an unbelievably sinister agenda. People who are about to let Prakash and Seema know how brutal they can be.

About The Author

Rasana Atreya
Rasana is the author of Amazon bestseller 'Tell A Thousand Lies', which was also shortlisted for the 2012 Tibor Jones South Asia award. UK’s Glam magazine calls this novel one of their five favourite tales from India (June 2014). Her other works are 'The Temple Is Not My Father' and '28 Years A Bachelor'.

Now on to more personal stuff – Rasana would like to be able to tell her readers that she once stopped a robbery single-handedly, except she’s terrified of robbers. And geckos. And two-year-olds who throw tantrums. When she’s not running scared, she’s mother to a girl and a boy who were respectively six and eleven years-old when they wrote and illustrated 'The Mosquito and the Teapot'. She lives with her husband and children in Hyderabad, India, where a lot of her stories are set.
