About the author

"My work is mostly reflections on the society with a satirical flavor. The characters in my book are people you can easily connect to and have met all your lives. I try to make the read entertaining, light and pleasant. To me, writing is a medium to spread comfort, positivity and good humor.

I have had a racing mind since childhood, which does all kinds of analysis, interpretations and conclusions of everyday mundane events but have always held my tongue tight for fear of sounding politically incorrect. I found writing to be a perfect platform where I got to finally vocalize my thoughts and ideas.

Manju Nambiar hails from the southern state of Kerala, India. A computer engineer by profession, she now works in one of the leading firms in San Jose, California where she lives with her husband and daughter. Her hobbies include reading, hiking, playing with her daughter and catching up on the latest technologies and trends in the Valley."

Featured: Author Interview - 10 Questions with Sapna Bhog

I love bugging my fellow authors with questions. This time, I've chatted with an Indian indie author who has a promising new book out. Ready?
Q&A with Sapna Bhog Hi, Sapna! So nice to have you on my blog, and congrats on your promising new release. I love the cover and blurb. Now, are you ready for a fun Q&A?
Hey Devika, Thanks for having me. I hope you enjoy reading the book too and I look forward to your Q&A. Bring it on!

1) What do you like most and least about being an author?
I love dreaming up new characters in imaginary worlds and writing their stories. But each book takes so much time to complete and I wish I could download the ideas in my head directly onto the laptop. Wouldn’t that be so cool? I’d get so much more work done and so much faster too.

2) Do you prefer a specific genre for reading and writing?
I enjoy reading romances (all subgenres  - contemporary/historical/supernatural/romcom/suspense). As long as it’s a romance I can read it.
I like to write contemporary romances with a hint of suspense in them and yes I like to write books set in the regency era as well.

3) I’ve noticed that this is your first interracial romance. What inspired it?
I’m a huge fan of historical romances and the best ones are those that have a Duke in it. There’s just something about those Dukes, don’t you think?
So, I thought why not write about a modern day Duke in love with an Indian girl. I’ve never read that before, so I decided to write it.

4) In your opinion, is there something that characterizes Indian writing/literature?
Yes, well most Indian literature nowadays is based on mythology. I guess a lot of people read that and hence it is so popular.
Romance was at the end of the reading spectrum for a long time and I’m happy to see more and more women coming forward and reading romances written by Indian writers and there are so many good writers out there.

5) Would you say that covers are important when it comes to the success of books?
Most definitely! Covers play a very important part of the success of a book. I’ve been a reader far longer than I’ve been a writer and till date I will pick up a book only if the cover attracts me. It’s like visual marketing for a book.

6) If you had to describe your writing style in five words, what would you choose?
Eloquent, crisp, fluent, picturesque and stylistic, I would say.

7) When did you become an indie author, and what prompted your decision?
I recently became an Indie author after parting with my publisher and re-publishing my first three novels. I think self-publishing gives me a freer hand and control over my craft.

8) Is there a question you have always hoped somebody would ask you? (Feel free to answer it, too.)
Why do you write? (No one has asked me that – can you believe it?)
My answer would be because it gives me truckloads of happiness.

9) A look at your books tells me you often write series. What do you like about that?
Oh! I love creating worlds and building characters in those worlds. If my work resonates with readers then they look forward to more books from that world which is very exciting for me as a writer.

10) Congratulations on your latest release, Beneath the Lies! What made you choose London/England as the setting?
I wanted to write about a Duke so London/England was the perfect setting for that.

Picture About the Book Book link: https://smarturl.it./beneaththelies

Blurb:
How would you feel when the man you have known and loved for the last five years is not who he said he was? That everything he ever told you was all a lie.
An accident changed our lives forever and now I have to bring him back to us because he doesn’t remember our life, our family or us. One minute, I was just a regular girl from India married to a man she loved, and the next, my life has changed completely because I’m married to an English Duke, who doesn’t remember me.
My name is Aaliya Singh Talbot and I will do whatever it takes to bring my husband back from the darkness and into the light.
I will make him remember no matter what I have to do!
I will make him remember everything - beneath all the lies!

Picture About the Author Sapna Bhog is an author from India who writes contemporary novels. As a self-proclaimed die-hard romantic, her books are filled with swoon-worthy heroes and feisty heroines who clash all the time, but do get their happy ever after. Sapna has always surrounded herself with books and when she is not writing she is reading. Originally from Dubai, she now lives in Western India with her husband, kids and a Siberian Husky. Sapna gave up a successful IT career and took a foray into writing and has never looked back since. Her favorite pastimes are reading, writing, traveling and shopping – not necessarily in that order. She loves to hear from readers. So do give her a shout on Twitter/FB/Instagram on @Sapnawrites if you’ve read any of her books.

Featured - Character Interview with Ginger & Lance from "Chasing Ginger" by Marie Lavender

I love spicing things up on my blog - and what better way than to invite Marie Lavender over for another of those fun character interviews?! She recently released her rom-com "Chasing Ginger" and I have the two protagonists sitting on my (virtual) social distancing couch to answer questions!
Picture Picture Character Interview Devika: Welcome, Ginger and Lance. I’m so excited to have you over. Please have a seat.

Ginger Halloway: Wow, this is awesome! Thanks for letting us stop by!

Lance Franklin: Yes, ma’am. Thank you kindly.

Devika: Ginger, as it’s ladies first, please tell me a bit about yourself. Where do you live? And what do you do for a living?

Ginger: I live in San Francisco. My friends call me a fashionista. (Laughs.) I guess I’m an average woman. I hang out with my friends. I love to read any book I can get my hands on, and I’m a bit of a fact nerd. I also write songs in my spare time.

For now, I’m working as a secretar—

(Lance clears his throat.)

Ginger: (Blushes.) Pardon me…executive assistant. But I have some other aspirations as well.

Devika: I see. And who or what are The Misfits?

Ginger: Ah, the girls. That’s me and my group of friends – there’s Nicole, Sharon, Merry, Jessica and Valerie. Well, I have Laura too, but we’ve known each other from childhood.

Anyway, the six of us are real close, have been tight ever since we met in college. We were all rejected from a specific sorority, and just decided to keep hanging out after that. Truthfully, I think Nicky only tried to join that thing out of some dare or joke. It’s just not her style.

Devika: I heard you and Lance met under unusual circumstances. Want to fill me in on that?

Ginger: (Shares a look with her man.) Sure. Um, so this is what happened. I guess I was at a somewhat desperate point in my life. I wasn’t good at dating or anything. A study for a miracle drug came around, and I decided to participate. It was supposed to make us irresistible to the opposite sex. To make a long story short, I set up some short dates with a bunch of dudes and it turned into a real nightmare. Before long I was being chased out of the bar and down the street. Thankfully, Lance jumped in and got me to safety.

Devika: Wow. That sure makes for an interesting story. Lance, tell me, how did you know that Ginger’s the one?

Lance: (He grins.) Well, she was unlike any woman I’d ever met before. Gorgeous and sweet…and yeah, I might have a weakness for red hair. (Toys with a strand of his girlfriend’s wavy hair as she giggles.)

Devika: You’re actually leading quite different lives, aren’t you? What would you say you do have in common?

Ginger: It’s true that he’s a tech billionaire and I’m just me. But somehow it works.

Lance: She’s not kidding. I think it’s that we have the same values and share a similar sense of humor. But, listen, Ginger is selling herself short. Tell her about your dreams, sugar.

Ginger: (Smiles.) I’m hoping to make it as a singer, if I can.

Lance: (Kisses Ginger’s hand.) I have no doubts. She’s a fantastic dancer too.

Devika: Sounds promising. And Ginger, would you say you’re a typical redhead, character-wise?

Ginger: I’m not sure what that means. (Laughs.) If you’re talking about feistiness, I guess I’ve had my moments. Usually, I try to keep a level head. But if someone tries to hurt the one I care about, they’ll regret it.

Devika: Do you agree, Lance? How would you describe Ginger in three words? And yourself in three words too?

Lance:  Kind, loyal and dynamic. She has this natural charisma that most people are drawn to. I think that’s why she’ll have no trouble winning over a music producer.

(He frowns, rubbing his chin.) For myself…my top words would be determined, protective, and hardworking.

Ginger: (Squeezes his hand.) He’s being modest. Lance is incredibly generous.

Devika: Thanks so much for stopping by, Ginger and Lance. I wish you all the best. *waves*

Picture About the Book Book Genres: Steamy Romantic Comedy, Adult Contemporary Romance, Chick Lit, BBW/Curvy/Rubenesque Romance, Billionaire Romance
Similar to: a sexy version of Love Potion Number 9 meets Cinderella
Tagline: With more attention than she ever imagined, how can she tell if this is real or a fantasy?
Blurb:
Chased by a group of angry men. Saved by quite a hunk.
This is not the résumé Ginger Halloway ever imagined having. But thanks to a miracle pill, which makes her size 22 body instantly sexy, that’s what happened.
Yet, now Lance Franklin is showing interest in her, and she can’t figure out if he really likes her for her, or if it’s just because of a bizarre drug.
And her wild bunch of friends, The Misfits…well, they’re always getting her into some interesting situations.
So, yep, business as usual. Except for the guy. What the hell should she do about him?
As for Lance, he believes he’s lucky to have found Ginger. But can he convince her they should go for it?
With some new attention from the hottest guy she’s ever met, Ginger can’t help but wonder…is this all too good to be true?
(CONTENT WARNING: Watch for foul language, steamy scenes, and a pesky yet messy ability to choke on your dinner while laughing. If you’ve come expecting just a lighthearted, slapstick romance, you may not get that here. The author approaches sensitive topics in the best way she knows how. Just be prepared for all the feels to be deeper than usual for this genre – an emotional romantic comedy. No unruly cliffhangers, HEA guaranteed.)

Featured - Cover Reveal for "Love, Marriage, and Other Disasters" by Shilpa Suraj

~ Cover Reveal ~
Love, Marriage, and Other Disasters
by Shilpa Suraj

About the Book:
She believes in love, family and…squiggles!
Alisha Rana is not your typical single desi girl. For one, she is on the wrong side of 30.  For another, she is divorced. And last but definitely not least, she is still, gasp, a virgin!
Alisha doesn’t want much. But what she does want is that elusive thing all women search for – A man who gets her…but a man who gets her hot! She calls it “feeling the squiggle.”
Enter Dr. Vivaan Kapoor, cute, hot, squiggle-worthy. The younger brother of her cousin's prospective groom, he’s got the squiggle factor in spades. The only catch? He's never been married and is years younger than Alisha. Basically, completely off-limits.
And then there is Arjun. Widowed, older than her by the right number of years and a genuinely nice guy. He's Vivaan’s cousin and a so-called perfect match for Alisha. The problem is, Alisha’s squiggle-o-meter refuses to budge for him.
What will Alisha choose? A lifetime together with the 'right' man or a chance at happiness with the 'wrong' one?
About Shilpa Suraj:
Shilpa Suraj wears many hats - corporate drone, homemaker, mother to a fabulous toddler and author. An avid reader with an overactive imagination, Shilpa has weaved stories in her head since she was a child. Her previous stints at Google, in an ad agency and as an entrepreneur provide colour to her present day stories, both fiction and non-fiction.Shilpa on the Web:

Featured - Book Spotlight for "Chasing Ginger" by Marie Lavender

I firmly believe that romance needs more diversity - and that includes multicultural couples, international settings, persons with disabilities, LGBT+, and curvy protagonists. So I'm chuffed I can feature this new release by an author friend of mine that features a 'plus size' heroine.
Picture About the Book Book Genres: Steamy Romantic Comedy, Chick Lit, BBW/Curvy/Rubenesque Romance, Billionaire Romance

Teaser Excerpt:

Ginger cleared her throat. “Well, I guess that’s my cue.”

“Right. It was a pleasure meeting you.”

“Yes, it was interesting, to say the least. Thank you for the ride.”

He chuckled. “My pleasure. I hope you’re okay, after all that happened.”

“Yes, I’m fine. Nothing is broken.” Well, besides her sore muscles. She never planned to run down the street in her damn heels again. At least, if she could help it. Better yet, she would have to invest in some Nike Downshifters soon. Her own tennis shoes were pretty worn out.

“Happy to hear it.” As he put his hand out to her, she took it.

This didn’t feel quite like the usual handshake, however. When his warm palm brushed her skin, she wanted to get so much closer. Down, girl!

“I hope your appointment goes well.”

“Like I said, it’s routine. Nothing to worry about.”

“All right. Have a nice night.”

“You too.” She reached over and went for the door.

“Please. Allow me.” He exited the car, then opened her door instead of waiting on his driver to perform the duty. Which was so polite, considering how wealthy the man must be. When he offered his hand again, she accepted, tried hard not to lean into him.

But as she drew herself from the vehicle, her stupid green heels picked that moment to bend her ankles nearly in half. Gasping, she stumbled, and her fingertips met a firm obstacle. It took a second to register Lance had grasped her around the waist to steady her. Those blue eyes blinked in surprise.

Mortified, she stammered, “Ah, forgive me. I’m clumsy.” Which wasn’t often the case. Despite her size, she was adept in walking or dancing in high heels. Another reason this situation was so awkward.

He grinned. “No harm done.”

Oh, damn…why did he have to smell so good? His unique cologne was like heaven in her nose. Her insides unfurled, stirring in a way she’d never felt before. She clenched her nails on his silken dress shirt, as he’d discarded his blazer in the car. Exposed now, his shoulders appeared broader. Irresistible. She wished fate would stop sending signs this man was the type she should be attracted to; she knew better than to fall for such a fairytale.

Featured - Book Spotlight for "The Cheese & Chutney Affair" by Dee James & DR Downer

Sometimes, a book's title makes me really curious. Such is the case with "The Cheese & Chutney Affair" (not least because I love both). Aren't you curious too?
Picture About the Book Blurb:

Bhairavi Chandrasekar aka BC, the spunky girl who was ready to take on the world, was the epitome of bold and beautiful. A fresher right out of college, BC knew she could meet the world head-on; that is, until her darling dad was by her side. Music, her dream job, independence, she had it all! Now, if only something could be done about her arrogant boss who she lovingly referred to as 'swine' (in her mind, of course!).

Alessandro Davolli aka AD, was the hot, Italian hunk who was the proverbial bad boy. A marketing genius, he thought he could wrap every woman he met around his finger, making them dance to his tunes. That was until he met Bhairavi! Outspoken, fearless, and someone who gave it as good as she got, she was the definition of difficult. Now, if only he wasn't attracted to her!!

Add then there was BC's father who polished his gun at the sight of AD. What about AD's aunt? Where did she fit into all this? Will Alessandro and Bhairavi ever find their happily ever after?

Featured: Author Interview - 10 Questions with Sudesna Ghosh

Hi, Sue! So nice to have you on my blog. It’s been way too long since I last featured an author Q&A. Now, are you ready to answer?
Hi. Thanks for having me here! Picture 1) What do you like most and least about being an author?
It started out with wanting to see my name on a book cover. Then it became all about the whole experience of writing stories and sharing them with the world. I love being able to create and connect with other people thanks to my stories. What I like least about it? The anxiety associated with book marketing where I constantly wonder if I’m doing enough or should I do something new?
2) Do you prefer a specific genre for reading and writing?
I started my fiction writing career with short stories for children in TeleKids supplement here. I published some kid lit books on Kindle too. So I would say that genre is my first love. But then I decided to try my hand at romance and that really took off! As for reading, I love reading kid lit, romance and women’s fiction.

3) I’ve noticed that you mostly publish novellas and short stories. Tell me why?
We are bombarded with choices these days; there are thousands of books coming up on my social media timelines every day and I want to read so many of them. In such a scenario, I think that it’s hard to focus on a novel length book for days whereas one could read multiple short stories/novellas within a week. Also, reading a long book on a digital device is a different experience from reading a paperback – I find it more convenient to read shorter works on my device. Attention span is one factor, I guess? A lot of readers are hard pressed for time too.

4) In your opinion, is there something that characterizes Indian writing/literature?
I think most contemporary Indian writing gives a sense of our changing cultural landscape; we have changing lifestyles that our earlier generations couldn’t imagine living but there are so many values which stick.

5) Would you say that your time abroad has any impact on what and/or how you write?
Oh yes. I spent ages 0 to 9 and then my college years in the United States and that exposure to different cultures has shaped my writing and influences my characters often. For instance, I set my first romance in my favourite airport in the world (Singapore) and my first Christmas romance in one of my favourite cities (New York). Even in my kid lit stories, there are elements such as American desserts and characters from abroad.

6) If you had to describe your writing style in five words, what would you choose?
Fun and sweet with drama.

7) When did you become an indie author, and what prompted your decision?
My first two books were both nonfiction and traditionally published. It was a learning experience. While neither trad publishing or self publishing is without pros and cons, I like the idea of publishing regularly, at my own pace, and being in complete control of the whole process. In fact, since I like writing shorter fiction, it would be hard to get a traditional publisher as they usually want large word counts.

8) Is there a question you have always hoped somebody would ask you? (Feel free to answer it, too.)
Yes. I wish somebody would ask me how important my cats are to my writing life!My answer: They keep me on my toes with their demands for food and play and cuddles so that in turn keeps me on a strict schedule that makes sure that I fit writing in while they nap. Plus, more book sales means more money to keep my cats happy.
9) Your author bio reveals that you’re an ex-journalist. Tell me, has that had any (positive or negative) impact on writing fiction?
I was a sub-editor for a bit at a major newspaper. It was an eye-opening experience because I wouldn’t have known a lot about printing, publishing and editing unless I’d been there.

10) Congratulations on your latest release, Second Chance at Love! What do you like about the second chance trope in romance? It’s one of my favorites!
Thank you so much! I love the second chance trope because I believe some couples really really do deserve another attempt at happily ever after. I think a second chance is a good way to have no regrets.

Thanks a lot for these interesting answers, Sue.
Readers, you can grab her book here.
