Winter Must Go

I have to admit, I get caught up in my writing sometimes, and it's difficult to break away and follow links and look at blogs. But it looks like I managed to gain a bunch of new fans, which is really exciting. This past holiday season gave me the gift of a surge in the Shadows of Atlantis followers. It's been a wish of mine for ages to find my readers. Now that the blog posts are up, and the fog is clearing, and the ...

Q&A with Mara Powers

Part One What inspired you to write Shadows of Atlantis? When I was 14, I had a dream that I still remember. It was arctic blue, like the color on my book cover. It sent me on a quest that has consumed me for years. It showed me a terrible evil that fed off the fear of others, trapping them in a perpetual cycle that made the evil grow more powerful as more fear was fed to it. I was fascinated with the concept of evil. Not that I wanted to embrace it, but I wanted to know why it existed, what...

Cognitive Dissonance: The Downfall of Atlantis.

Shadows of Atlantis is as much a philosophical text as it is a fantasy hero's journey. Many of the esoterics discussed that the downfall of Atlantis was much more than just shifting geology. It was the gradual implosion of the human condition that caused it to crumble. But how would that be possible, one might ask? The answer is cognitive dissonance. In order for the human race to co-exist, we have to take into account that each and every one of us has our own filter through which we see the...

Atlantis: From Utopian Allegory to Underwater Fantasy Kingdom

“…there occurred violent earthquakes and floods; and in a single day and night of misfortune… the island of Atlantis disappeared in the depths of the sea.” -Plato Timaeus/Critius The world over has been wondering why Hollywood keeps churning out the same stories. We seem to be trapped in the endless cycle of reboots. But let’s face it, Joseph Campbell had it right when he created his treatise on the “monomyth.” The point is, all stories are recycled over and over, and appear behind many facad...

UPDATE: This giveaway ended on 12/20/18. Congrats to the 100 lucky winners!

I'm giving away 100 ebooks on Goodreads! Enter for your chance to win! I kind of gave up on Goodreads a while back, but I've found that when you set something into motion and leave it sitting for a while, it tends to develop its own momentum. My book has over 100 ratings now, its been added by over 900 people, plus a number of text reviews from strangers. Nothing is below 3 stars, so I guess that's good. It's hard for ...
