One Good Thing Every Day: June 20, 2013
Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory
in the heavens.
Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

“Give up striving to keep everything under control–an impossible task and a waste of precious energy….My guidance for each of My children is unique. That’s why listening to Me is so vital for your well-being.” from Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence
“We’re invited to join the Father, Son, and Spirit on the mountain top or in the valley.” from Joan C. Webb’s It’s a Wonderful Imperfect Life
But let all who take refuge in you be glad;
let them ever sing for joy.
Spread your protection over them,
that those who love your name may rejoice in you.
Joshua 1:5
No one will be able to stand against you all the days of your life. As I was with Moses, so I will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you.
The words above mingle with those echoing through the community college lounge. I am waiting for my first child to finish his placement test. In many ways, his future will be determined by the results. Yet, in many ways, his future will remain a mystery. As a mother, it comforts me to know that during his mountain-top experiences and his valley-wanderings, God will never leave him. As a home educator, assurance rests in daily relinquishing control to God’s plan for each of my children. I revel in these benedictions. Blessings are my priceless compensation for my dedication. They are my consolation regardless of worldly standards.
I am so captivated by these thoughts, my son must touch my shoulder to get my attention. He places a sheet of paper on the table. Catapulting joy sets our feet on another mountain-peak moment!

“Learn to laugh at yourself more freely.” from Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence

“I have called each of My children to a different path, distinctly designed for that one.” from Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence
For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.
He has shown you, O mortal, what is good.
And what does the Lord require of you?
To act justly and to love mercy
and to walk humbly with your God.

“The curse of this age is overstimulation of the senses, which blocks out awareness of the unseen world….The goal is to be aware of unseen things ever as you live out your life in the visible world.” from Sarah Young’s Jesus Calling: Enjoying Peace in His Presence
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

“I’ve discovered a misbelief guaranteed to make me (and you!) miserable: In order to be happy, I must be loved by everybody.” from Joan C. Webb’s It’s a Wonderful Imperfect Life
The Lord appeared to us in the past,saying:
“I have loved you with an everlasting love;
I have drawn you with unfailing kindness.”

“The wind blows wherever it pleases. You hear its sound, but you cannot tell where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit.”
