Repeating myself
I hate to do the same thing twice. That is one of the reasons I hate video games and filling out forms at the doctor’s office (really, how many times do you have to enter your name???) It’s also one of the things that you have to do to be a good writer (unless you spit out perfect prose the first time around – I don’t).
I’ve been rewriting the same three chapters for months. It’s frustrating. It’s demoralizing. It’s causing me to plumb new depths of procrastination and rationalization (there is always something good I could be cooking instead). And the only reason I keep rewriting them is that I don’t know what happens next.
I think I’ve finally broken the log jam, and that feels amazing. I learned a few things that work for me, and a few things that don’t. The best part though is knowing that the next time I get stuck I will remember how badly I was stuck before and that I did eventually work through it.

Tomorrow (Today)
So today I’m back to my usual “look asshole voices I wrote two novels bite me” self.
While this series may not earn me critical acclaim or make me a best seller, I now know
that I can finish things and how to finish things
that I will get better
that it’s the process of writing that makes me happy, not the result
Now if I could only learn how to unprocrastinate…

Today
Today I hate my first two books. They sound contrived and sophomoric. The characters are flat and the writing is amateurish. My glass-half-full position of the day is that thankfully only maybe five or six people have had to suffer through them.
In this loudly buzzing crowd of negative thoughts I am trying to listen for the small voice that tells me that I don’t want to leave the series unfinished, that I’m doing something that I love, and that all writing is good writing if it helps me get better. Honestly I don’t actually hear that voice, but I’m going on faith that it is there and that maybe I will hear it tomorrow.

An End and a Beginning
Book 2 in the Pax Lorem series, Pax Contentio, is complete. The ebook will be available today and the print version in a few weeks.
After months of editing, publicizing, and various administrative tasks (and a great deal of self-eduction about self-publishing) I find myself both excited and sad about finishing book 3, the final book in the series.
I hope you enjoy the journey. I know that I have.

A few updates
I'll be doing a small promotional event online in early June with #5minutefiction - more details to come very soon!
You may have noticed I've updated the cover for book 1 and wondered why - that is because I needed a different format for the print version. Yes, finally, a print version. I'll be posting the print versions for books 1 and 2 in the summer. They will also be available through Amazon.
You can follow me on twitter now at @tesharpwriter. I'm shy so make sure you post lots of horribly invasive questions for me to answer.
As always, if you read books and have an opinion (sounds like most of you) please post a review on your favorite site (Amazon, Goodreads, your blog, whatever)! You can also email/message me and tell me what you think.
