Excerpt:

Jake pulled off the road a little past the car. He could hear the hiss of steam. The driver cut the engine, and the motor clicked a few times before the road fell silent once more. The front of the car was buried in the snow and it listed toward the passenger side which had slid off the shoulder. He could see motion through the partially covered window. His momentary relief faded when he heard a pitiful cry that turned into the all out wail of a young child.

He rushed to the back door and yanked it open, noticing several things at once. A little girl, maybe two or three years old, strapped safely in her car seat. Although red-faced from screaming, she seemed fine otherwise. The other point of interest was the woman twisting around from the front seat in an effort to reach her child. Her big blue eyes stared up at him. She too had tears running down her face.

"Is she okay?"

The heartfelt plea moved Jake back to action. He crawled in at the same time the car shook from another passing semi. As soon as the girl noticed him, she stopped crying and held up her little arms. Jake unbuckled her.

"Dadda!"

The woman let out a hysterical laugh combined with a sob. She returned to the front and tried to get her door open, but she couldn't push through the weight of snow.

"Hold on, let me help." Jake put the girl on the seat. "Sit still while I help your momma."

"Hungy." She whimpered, but didn't move.

Jake doubted the little one would stay put for long. He kicked and clawed away snow until he could drag the front door open. As soon as he did, the woman rushed past him and grabbed her daughter. He watched as she touched the child's head, arms, legs, face. Her tears flowed faster, but she didn't make a sound. Her daughter however started to squirm.

"Want Dadda. Hungy." She wiggled while her mom squeezed her close, rocking her back and forth.

"That's not daddy, sweetie." The woman glanced at Jake for a moment before turning her attention back to her daughter. “Sorry about that.”

He waved her concern away, but he was curious why the little one didn't recognize he wasn't her dad.

"Are you sure you're okay?" Jake could see the ugly red abrasion across the woman's neck. Probably from the seatbelt. Her face was also pink from the airbag as if she'd been slapped. "Does that hurt?"

Apparently satisfied her daughter was okay, she finally looked up at him. "I'm fine. Thank you for your help."

Her eyes looked haunted, her blonde hair a little on the dirty side. He glanced around the car and noticed 5-hour shot bottles strewn on the floor, but no other signs of food or drink. Jake looked closer at her hands. They shook, even though she tried to hide it.

"Let's get you to town." He waved toward his truck.

"We'll be fine, really. Thank you though." A flash of fear moved across her face.

"Look, I know you have no reason to trust me, but I can't leave you here. It's only two degrees, and even the igloo you've created won't be much help. Can I at least call someone for you?" Jake pulled out his cell phone.

"Um, a local tow truck?"

"You're in luck. I know the best." He held out his arms to take the toddler. "In the meantime, let's get you in my truck where it's warmer."

He could see the struggle in her eyes. She clung to the child a moment longer, even though the little girl had turned to reach for him.

"I just want to help." He spoke as softly as he could. "It will be a while before TJ can get out here for your car. Let me take you to town."

"Okay." She reluctantly passed over her daughter and proceeded to unbuckle the car seat. "Her name is Katie."

"Hi there, Katie." The little girl was a warm and wiggly mass in his arms. He chuckled when she patted his face with both her hands.

"Hungy, dadda."

"I'm so sorry she keeps calling you that, and she has a one track mind when it comes to food." The mom backed out of the car, dragging the carseat with her. "We were hoping the next town wasn't too far down the road."

"Saratoga is just ten minutes away, and my mom will have a smash bang breakfast ready." Jake couldn't help but like the way Katie wrapped her arms around his neck and squeezed. It sparked something he never thought he'd feel. He knew he'd think about it for a long time. "Katie's sweet. What's your name?"

"Lindsey." She glanced up at him, then back at the ground for just a second. He could almost see the struggle as she forced herself to meet his gaze.

"Nice to meet you, Lindsey. I'm Jake." He held out his hand. She shook it cautiously. He noticed her hands still trembled, and he didn't think it was all from the shock of the accident. He recognized the caffeine jitters from his late night study sessions at college. "Come on, let's get you warmed up.”

My Fair Aussie is the perfect retelling of a classic tale with a delicious twist—and an Australian cowboy to boot. It's the ideal combination of humor and romance. Totally swoon-worthy. Highly recommended! – CJ Anaya, USA Today bestselling author

“How does she do it? Griffith once again makes me laugh out loud and thoroughly enjoy a good book. Love her cute characters.” Amazon Reviewer 'grimm

“Are you okay, sir?” I couldn’t help asking. He looked so forlorn.
“Actually, an international phone. That’s what I really need.” As he said the word need, I caught a glimpse of his teeth.
Okay, I might have a thing about teeth. An obsession, Polly calls it. A very good set of teeth can completely blind me to myriad other characteristics that would make a person otherwise unappealing.
And these teeth happened to be the best, most dazzling teeth I’d ever seen. My heart may have skipped a beat.
Maybe it was because they contrasted so starkly against his sunburnt face, or played so nicely off his extremely messy blond hair, but suddenly, I was entranced and ignoring everything else that I should be paying attention to—like the fact he was a homeless man who lived at the bus station and was asking to borrow, or possibly steal, my phone.
“I’ve got to get an international phone.” He said it again, and this time I picked apart the accent more. My mind was like one of those police phone traces when a hostage-taker called. Keep ’em on the line just a few more seconds—we’re pinpointing. He had to talk more for me to place it. Not American, not quite British. South African, maybe? Kiwi?

Polly took him by the shoulders and spun him around. “Nice build. That, plus the teeth. You’ll do.”

Taylor Hart - One of my Faves and a $25 giveaway

The Christmas Groom by Taylor Hart

Nathan Pennington, aka billionaire attorney, had only one idea on his mind the week before Christmas…forget about the past year and enjoy the beautiful Park City ski slopes. His plan was working, until some annoying ski bunny sprayed snow in his face. Her rudeness wasn’t something he could let slide. Nathan chases the woman down the hill intent on chewing her out, but when face-to-face, he’s struck by the vulnerability and anger in her eyes.

Storm Goodman has heard every weather joke in the book—and she’s not in the mood for another. Lately her life has lived up to her name. After a year of personal setbacks in her skiing career and her grandfather passing, she thought the worst of it was over until Four days before Christmas her lawyer tells her she can’t inherit the ranch her grandfather left her—unless she’s married by noon on Christmas day. Good thing she has a guy to marry—too bad he’s also the same guy who cheated on her last year. She’ll have to put up with him if she wants to keep the land from being turned over to the BLM.

When a mysterious guy shows up, chewing her out for spraying snow on him, she never would have imagined she’d end up on a date with him. Or kiss him! Why does her life have such rotten timing? After night skiing, soaking in the hot tub, and dancing at an old folk’s home, Storm begins to wonder if she can really go through with the marriage to her ex.

Now she and Nathan are faced with a choice—walk away or let the timing of love sync up once and for all.

“So don’t stand here and give me life lessons, okay? When people like you already have their millions, they can say anything they want.”

He decided not to correct her statement by informing her he was a billionaire. Instead, he turned for the tent opening.

She sighed. “I’m sorry. Look, it’s just been one of those days, okay?”

He turned back.

She shook her head and reached for another coat, letting out a derisive laugh. “It’s kinda been one of those years to tell you the truth.”

He paused and then moved back, offering his hand. “Let’s start over. I’m Nathan.”

Letting out a puff of air, she looked at his hand, but shook her head.

“Really, let’s start over. I’m Nathan.” He insisted.

“You’re not going to leave until I give you my name, are you?”

He had to smile at her brashness, her sarcasm with a bit of pissed off sprinkled in. Every woman he’d dated for the past few years had been the political type—polished, schooled in the right topics, dressed in the right clothes, and they always said the right things. This woman was refreshing. “Nope, not gonna leave without a name.”

Shaking his hand, she gave him a little smile. “I’m Storm.”

Oh yeah, that fit her.

She pulled back. “And I’m not in the mood for weather jokes, okay? My mother grew up here and was fascinated by the storms that blew through.”

The information interested him, but he didn’t push her. “Nice to meet you.”

She studied him for a moment before grinning. “Man, that’s a practiced smile.” Cocking her head to the side, she lifted an eyebrow. “Completely fake.”

Finding all thoughts of aches and pains and hunger gone, he realized he wanted to know more about her. “Really?”

“Completely.”

“How do you know?”

She gestured to him. “’Cause I’ve been talking to you, and I’ve seen the real one.” She stuck her chin out. “When you were teasing me. Now it looks like you’re running for president.”

Thoughts of his father flashed through his mind. His gut twisted, and he felt himself wincing.

“I’m sorry.” She was giving him an intense look.

He quickly changed the subject. “Tell me about this bad day or year.”

A derisive laugh escaped her as she opened another bin and loaded more merchandise into it. “Ah, no. It’s … complicated.”

Taking a chance, he put his bag of stuff down and moved next to her, folding one of the coats the way she was doing.

She shook her head, but kept packing. “Now you’re helping me?”

“Why not?” He leaned over the table and put it neatly in her bin. Then he reached for another. “It’s the Christmas spirit, right?”

Lifting her eyebrows, she put another coat in the bin and closed it. “So you’re a Mr. Do-Gooder, are you?”

He was the completely opposite kind of guy, and he knew it, but he just grinned and said, “Yep, that’s me.”

Jennifer Peel - Trouble in Loveland

Trouble in Loveland by Jennifer Peel

What does dating the boss + meddling ex-wife + most adorable three-year-old ever equal? Trouble in Loveland.

At seventeen, Charlee Jensen packed her bags and left her beloved hometown of Loveland, swearing she would never have anything to do with the men that left her heartbroken: her father, the man that taught her heroes can fall; and Ryan Carter, her much older neighbor and teenage crush.

Now eight years later, Charlee has two degrees she never wanted and no job prospects, forcing her to swallow her pride and come home to work for her father’s accounting firm—the same firm where newly divorced Ryan Carter is now a partner.

But trouble starts to stir when Ryan realizes the girl next door is all grown up and completely smitten with his adorable three-year-old. Ryan finds it hard to resist his beautiful, yet annoyingly charming neighbor and coworker, but is torn between his feelings and trying to keep the peace with his ex-wife, the mother of his child. It’s a recipe for trouble. Will Charlee and Ryan find the formula for success?

Trouble in Loveland Excerpt

My heart pounded erratically as Ryan looked up at me and smiled. The butterflies were beyond excited and swearing like sailors. I bit my lip nervously and watched Ryan walk my way. I felt like I couldn’t breathe. I knew it didn’t mean anything to him, but not to sound cheesy, it was like a dream come true for me. All I needed was some fog behind him as he sauntered over to me.

He held out his hand as soon as he approached me. “Will you give me the pleasure of dancing with me?” I think that was the sexiest thing I’d ever heard in my life.

I couldn’t talk very well, which was saying something. I always had something to say. I nodded my head and held out my hand, that I prayed wasn’t sweaty. Before he led me away, I tossed the bouquet to Amy, who wore a sly grin.

As we made it to the middle of the floor, I heard the DJ say, “Now don’t they make a lovely couple? Maybe there will be another love connection tonight.” I think I turned about ten shades of red. Ryan didn’t seem fazed by it as he pulled me to him and held me firmly, but gently. His hand rested on my mid-back. With his other hand he took my hand, and instead of holding it out, he brought it in, more intimately, against our bodies. Ed Sheeran’s “Thinking Out Loud” began to play. Ryan was obviously an experienced dancer as his steps kept in time with the rhythm of my new favorite song.

Ryan’s eyes seared into mine. “I was hoping I would get to dance with you tonight.”

“You were?”

“Yes, but you’ve been quite popular.” He pulled back a tad and looked down at my dress. “You look very …”

“Please don’t say grown up.”

He smiled and shook his head. “I wasn’t going to say that, I was going to say …” he tried to think of something.

“You were going to say it, weren’t you?”

He sighed. “Charlee, you really know how to make a guy feel inadequate, don’t you?”

“I’m sorry.”

“Don’t be. I find I like it.”

“You do?”

He nodded his head. “I also find you to be very …” he hesitated.

“Very what?”

“Beautiful and annoyingly charming.”

“How can somebody be annoying and charming at the same time?”

“See what I mean?” He held me close.

More Trouble in Loveland by Jennifer Peel

Another Timeless Single Romance! Join Jennifer Peel for MORE TROUBLE IN LOVELAND, a companion story to the beloved romance TROUBLE IN LOVELAND.

Charlee Jensen-Carter has been looking forward to her first Christmas with her new husband, Ryan, and her adorable stepson for weeks. Not only is her dad tying the knot, but she’s looking forward to two weeks of no exes, no drama, and especially no trouble. At least that’s what she thinks.

First, she gets talked into wearing red hooker heels again. Next, she finds herself trying to save her dad’s wedding. And if that isn’t bad enough, more than one ex shows up, and she's suddenly in the middle of more trouble than she ever bargained for.

Will she ever find the right moment to give Ryan the best Christmas present ever? Or will her Christmas hopes and dreams die a fiery death in this comical holiday tale?

More Trouble in Loveland Excerpt

Buried beneath more of my mementos were those dang, strappy high heels. Why was I unearthing these? If Krissy thought I was wearing them again, she was crazy. I didn’t care what the boots looked like that came with the costume; they had to be better than the hooker heels. I was only bringing them so Krissy wouldn’t whine.

Ryan grinned at the shoes when I emerged from the basement door in our kitchen. “One of my favorite memories is of you wearing those in your cutoffs. I wouldn’t remind a repeat.”

I remembered that day too. I had been so embarrassed Ryan caught me while I practiced walking in them for Krissy’s wedding. “If memory serves me correctly, you laughed at me.”

He pulled me to him, and, thankfully, his breath was clean and smelled normal, like honey. “I only laughed to keep away thoughts of wanting to ravishmy partner’s daughter.”

“Uh-huh.”

He brushed my lips. “You have no idea how hard it was to resist you.”

“You seemed to manage.” I loved teasing him.

He groaned against my mouth. “You’ve obliterated all my defenses.”

“Is that so?” I let the heels drop so I could use my hands for better things. And I was just about to until—

“MOM!”

Being a newlywed with a child was tricky business. Ryan sighed but smiled. “I’ll take a rain check.” He had plenty to cash in.

How to Design Love: Kisses and Commitment

**This book was previously published as How to Love a Dog's Best Friend**
Forced to fake a marriage, Brikelle must decide if she can love a beastly dog, and his handsome owner.
Attacked as a child, Brikelle Manwaring is terrified of dogs. When Colt Jepson's huge Great Dane chases her up a canyon, she tells him off and prays she'll never see either of them again.
When Colt and Brikelle are forced to pretend they are married, Colt discovers there's more to Brikelle than a feisty beauty who likes to tell him off.
Their deception grows until neither of them are sure what is reality and what is fiction. The only thing they know is if they don't tell the truth soon, they might lose their careers and any chance to be together.
Can Brikelle ever learn to love a beastly dog, or his owner?

The Street-Smart Paralegal's Guide

Find The Street-Smart Paralegal's Guide to: Getting a Job with a Lawyer or Law Firm on Amazon.

CONGRATULATIONS! YOU’RE A PARALEGAL!
NOW WHAT?

Paralegal programs are great to teach you the basics – how to write, how to analyze, different areas of law, etc., but they limit your exposure to what happens next. Sure, a career advisor will spend 1-2 days explaining how to format your resume, how to draft a cover letter and how you can go to them to critique it and get help with your job search.

But think about it – you were just in a class with at least 20-30 other aspiring paralegals that learned the same things you did.

After all, the structure of the paralegal program has to be consistent for all of its students, from the courses they offer to the career advice they give at the end.

Plus, once you’ve completed the program, you’re no longer classmates. For the most part, you’re all competing for the same law firm jobs - along with past program graduates who may also be hunting for a job.

Most job-hunting guides have the same problem. Because they are intended as a general, how-to guide on finding a job, the majority give you a one-size-fits-all approach that may or may not work for you.

The way to get an edge is to make yourself stand out. But how?

Introducing The Street-Smart Paralegal’s Guide to: Getting a Job with a Lawyer or Law Firm
Instead of the usual job search advice, this guide gives you a step-by-step system to find the paralegal job of your dreams!

Discover how to:

1. Easily create a plan of action;

2. Explore different areas of law;

3. Find lawyers and law firms you’d like to work for;

4. Network effectively to make connections;

5. Ace the interview;

6. Properly follow up after the interview;

7. Choose from multiple job offers; and,

8. Ensure you made the right choice.

Written by a paralegal that’s been in the trenches and experienced the highs and lows of the job search since 2002, The Street-Smart Paralegal’s Guide to: Getting a Job with a Lawyer or Law Firm will help you avoid that dead-end job and create a career that’s as unique as you are!

How to Kiss a Billionaire

How to Kiss a Billionaire is out! This new Billionaire Beach Romance will be $.99 until Black Friday.

Kindle * Print

Happy Holidays!

How to Kiss a Billionaire

Miriam Salisbury escapes to Oregon to avoid a boyfriend who won’t take no for an answer and kills her beloved cat to prove it. When her father sends Clay Browning to protect her, she’s certain he’s lost his mind. As far as she’s concerned Clay’s experience is limited to posing for the camera, charming every woman he meets, and making fun of her. He’s been teasing her since they were children and she’s never gotten over the way he threw crawdads at her at church picnics.

Clay retired from the military and entered the world of private security. When he gets the call to protect Miriam he’s excited to spend time with his lifelong crush. As expected, he teases her nonstop and the only thing he takes seriously is her security. He knows she’d never give him a chance and he can’t help but give her a hard time.

After Miriam is dumped in the freezing ocean on a crabbing expedition and Clay saves her from drowning and freezing to death, she takes a second look at her hired gun. But opening up to him is more terrifying than facing her stalker.

As events escalate to a frenzied climax, Miriam and Clay must put aside past grudges in the hope of finding a lasting love for their future.

How to Kiss a Billionaire is part of the bestselling sweet romance series: Billionaire Beach Romances. The books can be read in any order. All the books are $.99 to celebrate the release of the last book in the series. Thanks for reading!
