Qustions.
Are there any questions as a science fiction writer. That should not be asked?
In an interesting science fiction story. The theme centred around the question. What is the meaning of life?
Of course the answer is never revealed as all that were told the secret would mysteriously die.
Another spin off question would be. Is the meaning of life the same for every body?
There are organisations who thrive by promising to reveal the meaning of life as long as devotees follow their directions.
A more general answer could be, each individual will find their own answer that is right for them.

How to keep your cool.
Before an important meeting a man had a sudden attack of cramp in his lower leg. Fortunately he new a simple remedy by standing and straightening his leg with his foot flat on the ground and pushing his full weight down the cramp disappeared. Latter after a spot of lunch he felt the onset of indigestion and found a quick cure was a glass of water.
As his nerve increased before his speech he found a useful action is to take slow deep breaths through his nose and exhale through his mouth. The tightness in his chest eased and he felt a calm feeling.

Invisible company.
A well known theme in science fiction are creatures from another planet visiting earth.
The is a little known fact, we are not alone. Do not take my word for it. If you look carefully you will see for yourself, proof of something keeping you company.
To give you some idea only the other day after showering I saw on the mirror finger prints of a dimension that did not match any of the occupants in the house, also a clear outline of a face. During the day the are knocks and bangs from empty rooms. The are footsteps and doors open and close by themselves. At night time the electric light flickers and the is a drastic drop in temperature and a strong draught blows through the double glazed room. In one corner of the room I see a flash of a dark human form. I ask “Is there anyone there” The is no reply but a very loud bang from upstairs.
I am sure other people will have their own experience but I do not believe our invisible company mean us any harm.

Do you know yourself?
Among the many ideas for a story. It occurred to me how religion is supposed to make people behave in a better way but the many different religions cause friction and violence.
What if with the advance of science man's very nature could be altered by isolating a good gene. This good gene would over ride man's aggressive nature in all circumstances.
Of course in my story the super hero carrying the good gene is accidental killed much to the dismay of its creator.
On thinking more about what is good or bad it became clear psychological pressure will result in different ways on individuals and a lot of people do not know themselves.
More to the point what can be done if under pressure in the past you have acted in a way that you regret. Given under similar pressure you will probably act the same, so what can you do.
Do not act in haste. Think about the consequences of your action. Maturity is a way of thinking and not a sure thing.

Life.
It is easy to take life for granted but the is a strong probability that there have been many beginnings before our life forms become established, and of course history can repeat itself. That is as the dinosaurs were exterminated so mammals could suffer the same fate to be replaced by intelligent vegetables. Imagine a world dominated by the Venus Fly trap or a flying Cactus. Given opportunity Darwin evolution will shape life on earth and any where else throughout the Universe.
In an interesting experiment it has been shown plants are aware of pain and exhibit distress when one of their kind is damaged also it has been reported Prince Charles enjoys a good chat with his plants. I am not sure if Camilla feels a gooseberry.

Censor.
It had never occurred to me writing a science fiction story could become a life threatening activity.
There is a fine line that separates acceptable ideas and to make matters worse over time the general public views change.
It is interesting how Star Trek grew from a pilot episode to an ever expanding audience and Dr Who soldiers on with a countless list of actors playing the lead.
Sometimes an author may decide to kill of their hero something like Sir Arthur Conan Doyle did with Sherlock Holmes. Although he did not suffer the repercussions as depicted in Misery
where the author was kept hostage until he rewrote the plot to satisfy a demented fan.
There are certain areas like Salman Rushdie found can antagonise the public.
In fact sometimes banning a book may cause it to become a best seller regardless of its literary content.

Positive Planing.
I came across a book with the impressive tittle of NLP which stands for Neuro- Linguistic programming. After reading the first part the thought came to me about A Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens. Every person has a past present and future and how we deal with our past makes a difference to our future. Quite simply NLP is a method of positively directing your future.
Take your worst experience and imagine it in black and white, make it smaller and replay it in reverse. At the last moment see it explode into a shower of sparks leaving nothing.
What limits us is our own doubt. That little voice that undermines our confidence.
When ever you hear it in your head replacthe voice into a squeaky whisper and see yourself
succeeding.
Deliberately imagine yourself standing afoot in front of you and this you has all the confidence and ability. Step forward and be that new you.
Successful athletes see themselves wining and achieving their goal, they imagine every action needed in full glorious colour and hear the roar of the crowd in approval.
It is important to have a plan and write it down so you can see your progress.
Just as important you must be sure what your goal is. The way to do this is to ask yourself questions to see what will make you satisfied.

School days.
In my early days at school my test results where average, until two years before leaving school, I decided to enjoy learning. My one Achilles heel was and is Arithmetic.
On my final test I achieved joint top in all my subjects and if I could have done just a little better in Arithmetic I would have easily excelled.
I used to look at a times problem and thought surely the should be an easier way of multiplying without using times tables. It was after I left school I came across the fact nine times sum could
be checked to be correct by adding together the answer which always will be nine. For example nine times nine is eighty one. If you add the eight to one it will be nine. From this it only needs a method to find the first number and take this from nine to get the next.
My achievement spurred me on to think about writing Science fiction and how we take for granted, Man's dominant position in this period of time. Could it be possible one single change of events
and Man kind would not exist. My story opens Pandora's box of possibility.

Time travel.
Sometimes in life real tragic events seem to happen one after another. What if you had the ability to foretell these events and intervene and change the course of history. Recently a train for no obvious
reason left a curved track at an incredible speed although the driver was very familiar with the journey.
A plane disappears from its regular route and then a ferry loaded with hundreds of passengers capsizes and even although the was a rescue ship near by and enough time to leave the stricken vessel.
No order to abandon ship was given to the passengers.
Long before these events the thought occurred to me could one travel back in time and make a difference. I have explored that idea in my story Archaeopteryx.

Gravity machine.
I have always been fascinated by the idea of natural created energy. For instance tidal power or utilising the mass of natural sewage and burning the gas and solid as a never ending supply of matter.
It seems incredible to me that so much attention is given to nuclear energy which is dangerous and has an ever increasing problem of dumping highly long lasting radio active material.
In my story Archaeopteryx I posed a possibility for earlier intelligence before present mankind, or a many legged creature from a distant planet to have constructed a gravity motor as a fan
which could turn forever driven solely by gravity.
If you imagine a wheel with spokes. Each spoke is divided so the outer half can slide towards the centre and out. Like a clock face from twelve to three each spoke moves outwards and from three
to six it then is moved back to again at the point of twelve repeat the motion.
Each spoke is separated with a space to allow a solid sloped surface to contact a roller joining the two outer parts of the spoke and then another one to move it back automatically.
The sloped surfaces are joined to the centre frame that supports the axle and a solid guide from six round to twelve will keep the spokes compact.
Momentum is the initial energy but a continual unbalance will continue the process.
I am sure with man's ingenuity there should be a way of creating energy from natural resources.
The are two points that have occurred to me. One the status quo are reluctant to loose money from the present systems, and two highly educated people will teach that it is impossible to build
a perpetual energy machine.
At one time it was believed man would never be able to fly but history has proved it is possible.
