Interview on WGAU Talk Radio about Bullying, Self-Esteem, and Saving YOU Saving ME!
How many of you have heard about the study from Oklahoma where researchers are now finding that bullying is starting at an earlier age – age 5 now and one of the things these 5 year olds are targeting are overweight kids?
Barbara Dooley of top Talk Radio WGAU had me on to talk about this, and to talk about tolerance and self-esteem as it relates to teen issues, as well. One of the message I wanted to convey, and that Barbara Dooley picked up also was that we, as society, can do something about bullying and other social issues that affects children and teens, who grow up to be young adults in their late teens, twenties, and even whatever age that have lifelong issues.
Here’s the interview with Barbara Dooley in WGAU (Athens, Georgia) and syndicated nationally:
http://www.1340wgau.com/Player/101384391/
I also talk about my non-fiction book for all ages:
The Shy Girls Social Club Handbook for Dealing with Bullies
and Other Meanies
Any of you heard about this study or any bully incidences lately? If so, let us know. Knowledge is power, and awareness brings this issue to the surface so those being bullied or are bullying can find help to deal with it.

Beyond the Books: The Social Impact of Books – The Fire Wars, Saving You Saving Me, and Loving Summer
Yesterday, I found out my YA Dystopian book, The Fire Wars, won Best Teen Book in the 2012 Green Book Festival. This honor was especially meaningful for me since the Green Book Festival is an “annual competition honoring books that contribute to greater understanding, respect for and positive action on the changing worldwide environment.”
I had written and planned out the series for it to be entertaining (read for pleasure) mostly, and for it to be a dystopian fantasy for young adults and older. The fact that it was set in a future world where Earth’s land had eroded to the point where all that remain are islands, and the erosion will continue unless one of the characters, the heroine Mackenzy Evers does something about it with Chance Cutter, made this book into more than a romantic dystopian, but one with a social awareness of our environment. Based on scientific research and historical patterns of the changing earth, this world could very well be the future of Earth.
Again, I’m very honored and am now scrambling to make it up to San Francisco next week for the awards ceremony at the Drake. It’s a dream come true to write what I write, but to win an award for it, too, is even better! Believe it or not, I found out about the Green Book Festival last minute through Amazon.com’s recommended festival list.
Meanwhile, Saving You Saving Me, is making waves across the nation on national Top 15 radio talk shows (not internet radio, but radio shows with megawatts frequency, this is very impressive since I used to be a radio station host and getting more frequency was the big thing). Most of the shows I’ve been on has been the morning drive time, and the next one, is tomorrow morning on WGAU 1340! We will be talking about bullying, abuse, self-esteem, self-confidence, the impact abuse has on children and teens, and more.
Of course, the Saving You Saving Me Project, too! While Saving You Saving Me can be entertaining because it is a story, it’s considered realistic YA fiction, meaning, there will be social issues in there. And many that comes up through the Call Center calls, but also in the characters’ lives because it is through helping others, through relating to others, that the characters Sam, Daggers, Derek, and other main characters will finally find their own issues surfacing.
Loving Summer, which releases later this month on May 28, is the summer beach read that is meant to be a bittersweet romance. Without giving away any spoilers, this one tackles some issues that are more common than not, especially in the U.S.
One of my majors as an undergrad was Social Ecology, which includes psychology, criminology, ecology, and sociology so I’m very aware of societal and psychological issues, especially with individual issues that extend out to affect society as a whole. You will find some of this in all of my books, but in these 3 books, these issues are somewhat a big part of the plot especially as it relates to the characters’ growth through the book and the series.
I could go on and on about this, but in the end, it’s about you enjoying my books, and if you do see the social growth in these books, then you’ve just made this author’s months and even years of working on these books even more special. Thank you and Enjoy!

Radio Show Interviews Continue for Saving You Saving Me! Also, some true trivia about Saving You Saving Me.
Just went through a whirlwind of blog tours for Saving You Saving Me, along with some radio interviews. I liked to thank most of the bloggers on the tour for being so professional and easy-to-work with! It was a blast to feature Daggers interview, Sam’s interview, Text chats between Collins and Sam, my Dream Cast, and more!
This week, while I’m finishing up on my end of Summer books with the edits, and even halfway through the third book of the You & Me Trilogy, I’ll let you know that I’ll be on another top 15 radio talk show… News Talk WGAU from Georgia. (http://www.1340wgau.com/) talking about Saving You Saving Me and Self-Esteem.
Seems like most everyone understands Saving You Saving Me is about Sam’s journey and the Call Center issues, too, rather than some interesting comparisons that I can only be flattered about, but I’ll hopefully get a chance to address some things, too.
TRUE TRIVIA about Saving you Saving Me
1) Saving You Saving Me, is very much base on a true story – A childhood friend suffered abuse, and from looking at her, you would only see a perfect beautiful and wealthy successful young woman.
2) Relationship contracts are very real, too. Before I started a serious relationship, an attorney friend of mine told me to come up with one. She did with her attorney husband before they became serious, and 1 provision from him was, to not cut her hair, but to keep it long. Although I didn’t come up with one, I know of people with high net worth who have formed relationship contracts or pledges with each other just to make the relationship clear before there are any misunderstandings and time investment. Interesting huh?
3) The relationship of a wealthy young entrepreneur and an innocent student girl is very real. My college roommate in her freshman year had this kind of relationship, and we went to church together, and although initially it appeared like there were a big difference between them on the surface, it didn’t matter. She fell for a guy living in a multimillion dollar beach house in the OC, and he eventually fell for her, too. With a happy ending, I might add, which makes me smile to this day
4) Collins McGregor – yes, there are gorgeous superwealthy hot men like him in real life, with some issues that keep them single. How else are there so many unmarried gorgeous men around. What keeps them from settling? Lots of things that stems back to…issues from the past, etc.
But of course, there’s a lot more details in Saving You Saving Me because it’s fiction.
Anyways, hope you all have a great week ahead of you, and to all moms out there (including myself ha ha), enjoy yourself, pick up a good escape book, get a spa treatment, do something good for yourself! You deserve it!

Cover Reveal for Finding You Finding Me (You & Me Trilogy) And What to Expect In Book 2 of Saving You Saving Me!
Thank you everyone for helping Saving You Saving Me become a Top 20 Teen Bestseller
New developments with this book series: I’ve been on 2 syndicated radio shows in the U.S. talking about the issues brought up in Saving You Saving Me such as bullying, self-image, abuse, and ways we can help as a society to help kids through young adult with these issues. The radio shows will continue, and I’m happy to be able to get the message out about http://www.SavingYouSavingMe.com.
30% of teens have admitted to either being bullied or being the bully. Now bullying is starting at an even earlier age – age 5 in kindergarten. It’s important to recognize it, as well as take responsibility as a society when we see it happening. (More on that later).
The Saving You Saving Me Project and promotional tours has taken a lot of my time, not to mention my busy writing schedule. So I don’t have a lot of time to read. If I have any time at all, I’d be writing more posts or twittering lol (which I don’t do as much as I should).
So, I’m pleased to announce that Finding You Finding Me will be released earlier than originally planned. It will be released early Fall 2012 (instead of Spring 2013).
Here is the Cover Reveal for Finding You Finding Me:
What to Expect in Finding You Finding Me:
1. Sam will continue to be a peer counselor at Sawyer House until she goes to college.
2. Sam is going to deal with some of the issues from her past and with her family.
3. Collins’ little brother Tate will show up, and this will cause a whole lot of tension and friction.
4. Derek gets closer to Sam.
So there you have it! Finding You Finding Me is set to release in
September 2012! Mark your Calendars!
