Garrett and The Emperor’s New Groove

Darien snarled and shoved him away. “Easy for you to be all gung-ho; your name is Kyou Hayate. ‘Cause you look so Malaano.”
Garrett smirked. “Don’t be jealous, Eugene. My third cousin’s brother’s wife’s step-niece’s great aunt was Malaano.”

Hearthstone: Naxxramas Patchwerk deck

Patchwerk has a never-ending 5 Attack weapon and a Hero Ability, Hateful Strike, which instantly kills one minion of his choice for 4 mana.
The key to beating Patchwerk is doing lots of damage quickly and getting some tanks up fast. This is why I chose a Mage deck.
Your greatest allies in this deck are…

The origin of Darien’s name

I’ve always loved the name Darius. This guy was a involved with the famous story of a particular lion’s den—you can read about it in the Biblical book of Daniel.
The name also comes from a favorite book of mine as a child: Darien’s Rise. In this Focus on the Family novel somehow related to Adventures…

Preserving your onion harvest by freezing

I harvested my first crop of sweet onions today, and boy was it satisfying! I planted in fall 2013 and harvested late in spring 2014.
First and foremost, I learned that onions need loose soil to grow large bulbs. I’d planted straight into the ground and mixed in some compost with the native soil, but…

One time, when I was playing Banished…

I’m a sucker for city-building games like Civilization. My hubby Keanan recently found and gifted me copy of the new game, Banished.
Big mistake. This game is just as time-warping as Civ, but it’s harder, much more diverse, and in my opinion, much more fun.
But now that I’m less than two months away from having our…

What the heck is a hugelkultur?

Hugelkultur, or hugel beds, are an old German gardening method. The basic concept is very simple: bury wood in the ground, then cover it with earth. As the wood rots over the course of time, it will create a spongy, water-retaining, nutrient-filled interior.
You plant directly on top and on the sides of the hugel mound…
