The god of Alani

The biggest issue I’ve had with writing The Sentinel Trilogy is referring to God. As a radical Christian, I’m terrified of misrepresenting or dishonoring the God I love; the one who created the world and who continues to pluck it out of its own troubles time and time again. Yahweh, the God of Abraham, Isaac…

How to harvest broccoli (even after the crown is gone)

When I first started growing broccoli, I thought it might not be worth it to grow an entire plant just for one harvest: that big, bushy crown we’re used to buying in grocery stores.

Batten down the hatches!

It has begun. Anaiyah is 9 months old and she’s officially crawling, pulling up on everything, stuffing anything she can get her hands on down that gullet… and my life, as I knew it, is over.

How to harvest and dry herbs

Is it just me, or are herbs expensive? It seems like I have to pay $5 for a little itty bitty container, and if I want organic, the price is almost double.
Honestly, I’d rather buy an entire plant for $5 and have it produce for me year after year! I just threw my herbs…

Inspiration for the setting of Malaan

My husband Keanan and I went on a cheap cruise to Mexico for our 5th anniversary in December 2013. It was our first ‘real’ vacation that we worked hard to save up for!
I was captivated by the guacamole-loving iguanas, prolific reefs, and the ancient cenote of Dzibilchaltun… along with oppressive heat, mosquitoes, and foul stagnant…

I’ve finished writing Arbiter!

After nearly a year of blood, sweat, and tears, The Sentinel Trilogy Book 2: Arbiter is complete. It’ll make its first official debut on in early 2015, but first, it needs a good spit-shine!
Would you like to read the manuscript before it’s published and let me know what you think? It needs more polishing than…
