Getting Jobs on Outsourcing Sites as a Freelancer
If you're not familiar with outsourcing, or freelancing for that matter, here's a quick explanation:
Outsourcing is where companies will look outside of their employees to find someone to do a specific task. As a freelancer, you can find these roles on outsourcing sites like oDesk or Elance and be paid well for your area of expertise.
Getting jobs on these types of sites can seem daunting - you need to complete a profile, take some tests and upload some items to your portfolio.
One of the quickest ways to get started is to set up your profile based around the jobs you want to do. For example, if you are a writer who likes to write about gardening, then you would include this in your profile.
If you're a freelance web developer who specialises in creating sites for dentists, then that's what you put in your profile.
The other thing you need to be mindful of is your rating on these sites. If you're working on oDesk, the quickest way to get some ratings is to complete some of their skills tests and then land your first job.
Finding work on outsourcing sites can be very lucrative, if you know what you're doing.
The first step is in setting up a great, complete profile with as much information as possible so that clients can find you and know who you are.
In my next blog, I'll talk about the types of items you should include in your portfolio to round out your profile!
