LOVE IS THE GREATEST RISK OF ALLAfter multiple tours of duty, Brandon Forte returns to his hometown on a personal mission: to open a facility for military service dogs like Haydn, a German shepherd who's seen his share of combat and loss. It also brings him back to Sophie Kim, a beacon of light in his life . . . and the one woman he can't have. But Forte's success means he's made enemies in high places. Enemies who are now after Sophie . . .
When Forte enlisted and left without saying goodbye, Sophie did her best to move on. But with her first love back in town, looking sexier than ever, she's constantly reminded of what they could have had. Then after he risks himself for her, Sophie realizes she'll have to put her life in the hands of the man who broke her heart, knowing the danger -and the sparks between them- could consume them both.
Brandon Forte is back in town after leaving his best friend to go in the military without explanation. Forte has a dog training facility where he is training dogs for the police or military. This brings him back in the same town as Sophie Kim the girl he left behind. Things escalate when dangerous things start happening and Sophie is in constant danger. Forte knows he’s made some powerful enemies that now have Sophie in their cross-hairs. Will Brandon be able to save Sophie and show her how he really feels?
In an Oyster Shell – It was a steamy action-packed romance.
The Pearls – This whole series is a great concept. Centered around a dog kennel run by ex-military makes for an endless fodder for narrative. This is the third book in the series and was a great addition. The concept of dogs in the narrative is an interesting aspect. If your an animal lover and want a hero story this book is for you.
The characters were strong and well-developed. I really liked Brandon and his relationship with Sophie. They have been friends for a long time and that’s a great way to start a romance. The tension between the two of them is palpable and Brandon’s response to danger keeps him and Sophie close.
The romance was steamy and satisfying. It was a long time coming and the conclusion was fulfilling.
This book made me go back and read the other books in the series. I hardly every do that.
The Sand – It wasn’t a clean romance.

Senator A.C. McFerren has been missing for more than six months. The obvious prime suspect in his disappearance is the homegrown terrorist group known as the Army of Social Justice.
Searching for her kidnapped father leads Brenna McFerren Jefferson to the terrorists’ elusive “Death of Government” headquarters, known as The Doghouse. But nosing around where the federal government won’t investigate puts a target on her family and sets in motion a rebellion she isn’t prepared to lead.
Dreams of liberty cause the Senator’s daughter to disguise herself for undercover recon, recruit a high-ranking defector, and partner with a subversive news agency that combats government propaganda. As Brenna’s strength and family ties are tested, she unites a political party that commands the power to transform the United States.
Brenna McFerren Jefferson is on a mission to find her father. He was kidnapped by a supposed rebel group that defends the interests of the dictator like President. America is not what it used to be. The government has been disbanded save the president, it makes for a socialistic society. Brenna’s dad is against this and that is why he has been targeted. In helping with his release Brenna finds herself in the beginnings of a revolution. She and her family do what they can to make America right again.
In an Oyster Shell – This was an unexpected riveting read.
The Pearls – I don’t usually read dystopian fiction, I find them often leading me into a feeling of helplessness and desolation. I decided to give this book a chance because my interactions with the author where pleasant. I do what I can to help authors so I agreed to read it. I was pleasantly surprised by a dystopian book that left me feeling hopeful and complete. I am glad I read it.
The plot was interesting and unique. There is not a book I have read that I can compare this to. The book follows the Senator’s youngest daughter who unwittingly gets in the middle of all the chaos that is going on. One of my favorite parts of the book was the camaraderie among her family members. They worked as a team to fight against the dictatorship of the new government.
The characters are what made this story. There was strong development. As a reader I was drawn into the emotional ups and downs the characters experienced. I really got sucked into their stories.
The Sand – It took me a little bit to get into the book, but once I was, I couldn’t put it down.

As the story progresses we follow Sophie through the past and the present as she tries to figure out what happened to Cole. Along the way she runs into some old enemies. Will she be able to find out what happen to Cole and stay safe?
In an Oyster Shell – It was a provocative action-packed read that will keep the reader on their toes.
The Pearls – From the start of the story, the character development is really strong. You get a sense of Sophie right away. Withdrawn, independent and a little bit lost. She comes unhinged when her “brother” from the foster care system is allegedly murdered. You get a strong sense of their relationship which makes for the intrigue of the story.
The plot was interesting it was full of twists. You don’t really know what is going on. The story will keep you guessing. It’s really fun to follow Sophie through the past and present with unexpected events unfolding.
I am pulled into the series. I have already bought book 2. Looking forward to seeing the story unfold some more.
The Sand – The story was slightly disjointed at times.

In an Oyster Shell – It was a satisfying conclusion the Alexandra Gastone Duology.
The Pearls – I liked how this book started, right where the first book took off. It was a seamless transition into the next book.
I really like how the grandfather excepted Milena as family. He even risked his own life to help save her and get her immunity in the United States. The camaraderie between the characters was unprecedented.
The romance was unexpected in the end. It was a welcome addition to the story. It added a nice depth and added to the satisfying conclusion.
The Sand – It was good a little violent at times.

But as soon as she arrives she meets Holt Roth. Holt is unlike anyone she’s ever met before – and her reaction to him is even more unexpected.
Then she meets his friend, Samuel Cheshire. If her reaction to Holt was strong, her reaction to Samuel is shocking. The only problem is that he seems to hate her for no reason at all.
Not being able to choose between two guys is only the beginning of Autumn’s problems, because both Samuel and Holt are Fairy Princes, and Autumn is caught between her own desires and the Fairy Courts, who might cause her immeasurable pain if she makes the wrong choice.
Autumn goes to Castleton Maine to spend the summer with her best friend Carley. Upon arrival, she meets Holt Roth who gives her a ride when Carley forgets to show up. Autumn feels a strong connection to Holt that she can’t explain. She then meets his friend Samuel and the connection is even stronger. Something is strange about these two boys and Autumn soon discovers that the boys are actually fairies who are in rivalry. Autumn is caught in the middle of a timeless feud.
In an Oyster Shell – A quick easy read about fairies in the modern world.
The Pearls –
I love a good story about fairies. This book delivered in that sense. It was interesting to have fairies from seasons who are a rivalry. It was unique and imaginative.
The small town feel came through. It was a beautiful setting in Maine. I loved that there was a coffee shop that Autumn worked at. It added a nice depth to the story.
There was a good variety of characters. There were lots of characters and they all had their place. There was good development for the most part.
The Sand – I didn’t like the ending of the story. It wasn’t a complete book you had to read the rest of the series to get any satisfation.

But before her parents can join her, a storm crashes down on Somerset to destroy any hope of Pippa’s white Christmas dream. The roads have flooded and travel is impossible, leaving her stranded and alone. But a muddied, angry and devilishly handsome lord appears at her door demanding shelter.
Lucas Hartfeld, the Earl of Maddox, has been summoned by his parents, the Marquis and Marchioness of Bowmont, to attend a holiday party in the wilds of the country, far from his London townhouse. He suspects they command his attendance for far different reasons than a simple country party. When a storm strands his carriage, he’s forced to seek shelter at the only home for miles around, a local manor called Helton House.
When Lady Pippa is reluctant to admit him, he does what he’s been raised to do—demand she provide him and his servants with shelter until the storm passes. But the beautiful woman draws his interest far more than he’s willing to admit. Can Lucas find a way out of the predicament his parents are planning?
As Lady Pippa scrutinizes another arrogant, demanding lord, she is bombarded with memories of betrayals in her past. Can she forget those difficult life lessons to claim a Christmastide kiss from a perfect stranger?
Lady Pippa Godfrey spent an embarrassing season in London. She is glad to retreat to her family home the Somerset estate. Away from scandal, she is expecting to spend a quiet Christmas. It is interrupted when Lucas Hartfeld shows up after being stranded from a strong storm. Lady Pippa is reluctant to let him into the estate but propriety demands that she does. Lord Lucas was on his way to a holiday party where he inevitably is being arranged to marry. Lord Lucas finds Lady Pippa a welcome distraction. The relationship that ensues between the two of them is conflicted at first. Lord Lucas finds a way to soothe Lady Pippa’s fears.
In an Oyster Shell – A quaint novella that has a spicy sweet romance.
The Pearls – The length of this novella is short, so it can be devoured in one sitting. It’s a nice holiday read.
The romance is steamy but fairly clean. I love Lady Pippa’s reluctance at first, makes Lord Lucas work hard to charm her. The conflict makes for a more spicy romance.
The setting was quaint and believable. I love regency settings of estates. It felt like you were right there with the apt descriptions. Lady Pippa getting ready for the Christmas season gives the story it’s festive feel.
The Sand – It was too short and could have used more substance.

As Carrie starts her last job, she’s sure she’ll be going out on a high – the house is
amazing

The only problem could be her boss… single-dad Adam Fletcher might be both handsome and successful, but he’s always working. Doesn’t he realise he’s missing out on precious moments with his son and daughter?

There’s still time for Carrie to make this the best Christmas ever… after all, Christmas is the time for miracles, isn’t it? Let the festivities begin!
Carrie Blake loves children, so being a nanny was fitting for a time. Now she feels like taking care of other people’s children is getting in the way of her meeting her goals in life. Carrie takes one last nanny job for Adam. He has two adorable children that are twins. As Carrie starts her job she notices that Adam is a workaholic and struggles to spend time with his kids. She seeks to rectify the situation by getting Adam more involved. Will Carrie be able to get Adam to realize the importance of family?
In an Oyster Shell – Another heartwarming Christmas tale from Jenny Hale.
The Pearls – My favorite part of this book as the main character Carrie. She was such a charming heartwarming character. Her passion for children jumped off the pages. Her audacity to stand up to her employer was commendable. The children were charming as well. The character growth that all the characters go through makes for a page-turning read.
The romance was a slow-burn one. It was clean. It was a nice change of pace where the happy ending doesn’t come right away. You have to work for it as you continue reading. It was refreshing to have a romance that had a prolonged wait to the happily-ever-after.
The Sand – It was a classic tale that I recommend for anyone looking for a charming holiday read.

Christmas at the Little Village Bakery by Tilly Tennant Series: Honeybourne #2

It’s time to get toasty by the fire with a glass of mulled wine and a slice of chocolate yule log sprinkled with a little romance. Welcome to Christmas at the Little Village Bakery.
Snow is falling in Honeybourne and Spencer is bringing home his American fiancée Tori for a traditional English Christmas with all the trimmings. But when his hippie mum and dad meet her high-maintenance parents, sparks of the wrong sort start to fly. Then Spencer bumps into his first love Jasmine and unexpected feelings come flooding back.
Millie is run off her feet with Christmas orders at the Little Village Bakery and new baby Oscar. Thank goodness her cousin Darcie is here to help her. Although she does seem to be rather flirty with Millie’s boyfriend Dylan.
Will Darcie ever find true love of her own? And is marrying Tori a terrible mistake for Spencer if his heart is with someone else?
Spencer has taken his fiance to spend the holidays in his hometown of Honeybourne. Tori who is used to the holidays in Colorado where she is from, is adjusting to life in Honeybourne. The two invited their parents to spend the holidays with them. It turns out to be disastrous and makes Spencer question his relationship with Tori. Meanwhile, other members of the Honeybourne community are working on figuring out their lives. What will happen to the members of Honeybourne? Will Spencer go through with his engagement?
In an Oyster Shell – A heartwarming holiday read that had multiple stories wrapped up in one. It was entertaining.
The Pearls – The setting of Honeybourne England takes center stage in this story. It’s a cozy little town with quirky characters. The town is the main reason I continued on with this series. The stories of the characters are so addicting that you can’t help but read through and look forward to the next book in the series.
The multiple POV’s make for an interesting read. There are a few storylines that are going on in this book. The author does a great job of making the stories have clean transitions so the reader does not get lost.
The characters are ultimately what make this story. I love reading through the struggles. Through the good times and the awkward times. I love how the characters of Honeybourne rally around each other making a strong sense of community.
The Sand – It was a great read.

A month after Lily and Calo rescued the characters from Cinderella and The Candlemaker’s Daughter, they’ve been assigned to a new case. Santa’s rebellious daughter, Carole, has had enough of her family and needs a change. And if that change isn’t handled carefully, it could wind up derailing Christmas for everyone—a fact the will equal lots of unhappy citizens potentially vanishing. So, no pressure for Lily, right? Wrong. In addition, Lily is dealing with the ever-increasing demands on her time, leaving her very little time for her beloved math. Multiply that by the fact that she can’t seem to please her parents, her friend Corrie is mad at her, and her unsolvable relationship status with Calo, and you’re left with a pretty stressed out Lily. Will she and Calo manage to save Christmas? Will Lily find a way to be the Princess the kingdom expects? And how will things turn out with Carole, who is openly naughty in front of Santa Claus?
Lily Sparrow is back in this second book of The Lily Sparrow Chronicles. After coming back from her last adventure saving a whole fairytale she is grounded. While she is grounded she is presented with a case of helping Carol Clause reunite with her family. Carol is upset and feels left out so she goes to live with the Sparrows. Her absence from the North Pole puts Santa and Mrs. Clause in a depression. They are not preparing for Christmas like they should. It’s up to Lily to convince Carol that she needs to go back home. Carol has her own ideas of wanting to be on her own. Will Lily be able to get the Clauses back together in time to save Christmas?
In an Oyster Shell – This was a great addition to the Lily Sparrow Chronicles. I enjoyed reading it!
The Pearls – The Lily Sparrow Chronicles are fun and imaginative. I love the idea of a young girl that is heir to throne in a fairy tale kingdom. It makes it even more interesting that Lily struggles with being a logical math wiz while trying to believe in the unbelievable in the fairy tale and legend land. It makes for great conflict and an interesting story.
The characters are well developed and make the story fun to read. I love the addition of Carol Clause in this book. She’s not what you would imagine Santa’s daughter to be. A surly goth dressing girl who doesn’t want anything to do with the family business. Or so it seems. What we end up finding out is that Carol loves Christmas and is a tender-hearted girl that is just hurting. How the author resolves this hurt with Carol is unexpected and exciting.
The romance is appropriate for a YA book. It doesn’t look like Lily is going to get her happily ever after. The characters have to find another way to make her happy. I feel like this is a refreshing change. Lily didn’t necessarily need a relationship to make her happy. There is hint that there maybe more romance in later books so I can’t wait for the next installment.
The Sand – I didn’t like the constant pressure that was put on the main character. The expectations of her behavior and performance were unrealistic and slightly unpleasant to read.

After an uneventful season in Bath, Miss Charlotte Rosebury returns home to Warwickshire, looking forward to a visit from her mother’s friend. Their expected guest, Mrs. Worthington, has promised that her son will be accompanying her, and as Charlotte has only ever heard stories of the gentleman who rarely leaves his Yorkshire estate, she is most pleased to meet him. However, when her warm welcome is returned with a fierce frown from the handsome man, she cannot help but long to be free of him and his blue-eyed glare.
Despite his mother’s protests, Mr. Gabriel Worthington had made the decision long ago to remain unmarried, but when he meets Charlotte, doubts about his decision creep into his fearful mind, and he wishes for nothing more than to flee from the woman and never return.
For weeks, the two are forced to live within the same home, and though they provoke one another with teasing and stolen glances, an unlikely friendship blossoms between them, a friendship that grows stronger than either of them had expected. Will Gabriel concede to the choices binding his heart, or can Charlotte’s warmth be just the thing to strengthen their love and, at last, end their fears?

Paperback available from www.deborahmhathaway.com
Miss Charlotte Rosebury is content to be at her home in Warkshire. She is delighted when she hears there will be guests, the Worthingtons. Gabriel Worthington has made a vow that he will never marry. He is displeased when he finds there is a woman of marriageable age at the estate he is visiting. Despite himself, the two form an unlikely friendship. Will Miss Rosebury’s charm be enough to warm Gabriel’s wintered heart?
In an Oyster Shell – It was a satisfying clean romance that was almost poetic.
The Pearls – The title was poetic, the cover beautiful.
The concept of the book was ingenious. The reason behind Gabriel’s resistance is sobering and makes a lot of sense. Miss Rosebury’s demeanor is enough to challenge Mr. Worthington and make him question his decisions. Though it’s rough going for awhile they strike a beautiful friendship.
The conflict in this book was riveting. It was unexpected and added a nice tension to the story. The conflict also brings Miss Rosebury and Mr. Worthington closer together. The conflict was clever.
The romance is nice because it starts off as an unlikely friendship. It was a slow burn love which was really nice.
The Sand – It was a well-written book.
