Excerpt from Chapter 8 of my novel, Hire Lernin’: An Idealist’s Quest Through the Realm of for-Profit Education (and link to my reading of the complete chapter)

Chapter 8 – Excerpt

For the rest of the day, Dan concentrated on reviewing the lesson plans on file and making notes as to those that showed deficiencies, or, worse, were missing altogether. He would schedule his first conferences with these faculty members and get them on the right track. At least four faculty had missing or deficient lesson plans and that would not do. On Friday, he would announce the new required one-on-one meetings and class visitations and would schedule these for the we...

Chapter 7

The next day, Dan rose early after a night of maybe two hours of restless sleep as he could barely contain his excitement about his first full day of work. He could not get the idea of the short course out of his head, nor think of a way to overcome the hurdle of needing new IBM-compatible computers for at least one of the labs to run the new software. He would not comprom...

A new cover photo for my next book?

Covid-19 has had an impact on all of our lives. Some changes are tragic and some humorous. On the humorous side, the photos below will show how the past year+ has affected me. I would have died laughing if anyone suggested I would look like my photo from today just a year ago–and many of my friends, family and especially students would likely have the same reaction. I guess it is time to update my photo of blogs, book covers, etc. Who knows, it might even increase sales. Change is good, no? 🙂

Amor Vincit Omnia – Preview

Amor Vincit Omnia

Last night I found the love of my life. She was drowning in a shallow pool of muddy water, not far from my door. I rescued her, gently carried her home, revived her and tenderly washed her body clean as she trembled beneath my gentlest touch. Her tears soon dried as she found herself protected, safe, dry, warm, and lovingly placed on a comfy couch. I stared at her for hours as she slept, captivated by her beauty and grace, even in sleep. I could not take my eyes away from he...

Hire Lernin’ – A reading of Chapter 5

Four days from sending out an application for a dean’s position to his first day on the job! Dan is either having andincredibly great week or . . . but he will only dwell on the positive. As his girlfriend wisely noted of him, he would look for a rainbow in the middle of a hurricane if it killed him. And the wind is picking up force.

Hire Lernin’: An Idealist’s Quest Through the Realm of for-Profit Education (c) 2021 (Available in hardcover, paperback and Kindle editions. 5″x 9″ format, 338...

Happy Birthday U.S.A.!

I will proudly fly our flag today grateful for the privilege to live in freedom bought and paid for in patriots’ blood.

Unlike so many today who embrace extremist views from the right and left of the political spectrum, I’ve actually lived under right wing dictatorships and have many friends who lived in “workers’ utopias” in Cuba, the U.S.S.R., China, North Korea and other equally intolerant places where opposition is brutally crushed. Yet the siren’s song of rebranded Marxism still finds...
