"An excellent balance of sincerity, realistic advice, and humor." Lost in Space. The Entropy. Wonderbar.

"It’s difficult to think about disliking your children at times or being helpless as a new parent, but, frankly, these are some of the most prevalent feelings that comes alongside raising children. This candor probably doesn’t sell copies of What to Expect…, but if more books could set aside their puerile approach many new dads would be better off. Lost in Space strikes an excellent balance of sincerity, realistic advice, and humor. I certainly know what I’m bringing to the next “dadchelor party” I’m invited to."

"The only behavior I’m trying to figure out is mine." Interview. Lost in Space. Newcity Lit. Wonderbar.

One of the most striking essays has you watching “Star Wars” with your sons, and you want to have this discussion with them but they weren’t responding the way that you wanted them to.
My dad would say, “When you were a kid I’d say, ‘Look, there’s a cow outside the window,’ and all you’d want to do is look in the ashtrays. It didn’t matter that there was a cow on the side of the road.” There’s that beginning piece where you just want your kid to look at anything, and then the second piece where you want them to look at things like you look at them, which is worse, but then there’s this third level, which is like, “heeey, they’re excited, I’m excited, let’s use this to teach.” I’m sure there’s a part that’s like, “why can’t you just let them enjoy ‘Star Wars’”; for a long time, they didn’t want to watch it at all. - See more at: http://lit.newcity.com/2014/03/17/fin...One of the most striking essays has you watching “Star Wars” with your sons, and you want to have this discussion with them but they weren’t responding the way that you wanted them to.

Wherein we are Writing Is Revision panel with the quite amazing D. Foy, Dave Housley, Rae Bryant, and Jessica Anya Blau at the Conversations and Connection conference on April 5th in Washington, D.C. and look forward to seeing you there thank you cool done

"For those of us not touched my magic, writing is less about “connecting with the muse” than it is about elbow grease. Get the words on the page, then go back and delete most of them, change others, move them around, repeat, drink coffee, repeat, drink bourbon, repeat, go to sleep, repeat, repeat, until maybe you have something that’s headed towards working."
