looking hipster AF but really I’m 📈working📉 to get timings for the tapes of Cage’s “Where Are We Going? and What Are We Doing?” I’m struck (and it’s not the first time) by his commitment to commit to posterity some positively mundane and profound thoughts in equal measure, and to instruct us to overlap them simultaneously with his other mundane and profound thoughts, and to overlap all this with music/noise… and it occurs to me I’m writing this on social media 58 years later. (A lot of the lecture is about “machines.”) If you listen closely you can hear the sound engineer snickering. Struck also by this quote:
