Netflix’s ‘Assassin’s Creed’ TV Series in Development; What We Know So Far

It has been confirmed that an “Assassin’s Creed” TV series is in the works. Despite the huge following of the franchise, its movie adaptation failed to be a box office hit or even break even in theaters last year. The upcoming show is rumored to be available on Netflix.

Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot announced last year that they have been in contact with Netflix for a possible series adaptation for one of their games. Screen Rant reports that the company’s Aymar Azaizia said in a forum that they are working on an “Assassin’s Creed” TV series.

Azaizia adds that they are taking their time with developing the “Assassin’s Creed” TV series similar to that of the movie. However, the Ubisoft employee did not specify if the rumored Netflix show will be in live-action or a CGI animation.

Netflix has been on a spree with releasing live-action comic book shows from Marvel and DC. The possibility of “Assassin’s Creed” TV show being streamed by them may be true. Furthermore, a series would do better for the franchise than a movie as it can accommodate a lot more content.

However, neither Ubisoft nor Netflix has released a formal announcement regarding the release of the “Assassin’s Creed” TV series. The show may take a while as either live-action or CGI animation will likely take some time.

On to what’s next for Ubisoft’s gaming franchise, there have been rumors of a new title called “Assassin’s Creed: Empire.” GameSpot reports that Azaizia was asked to confirm regarding a leaked image of the game to which he denied that it’s not from the franchise.

It has been speculated by fans that “Assassin’s Creed: Empire” will take place in Egypt and the game might be released soon. The outlet notes that Ubisoft has not released a new title for the franchise last year.

Are you in favor of seeing an “Assassin’s Creed” TV series on Netflix? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below.

Aliens exist and they’re ‘a lot smarter’ than us: Ridley Scott

“Alien” director Ridley Scott believes aliens actually exist — and that they’re coming for us.

“I believe in superior beings,” the filmmaker said Thursday, while promoting the sixth installment in the sci-fi horror franchise, “Alien: Covenant.”

“I think it is certainly likely,” he told the Agence France-Presse. “An expert I was talking to at NASA said to me, ‘Have you ever looked in the sky at night? You mean to tell me we are it?’ That’s ridiculous.

“The experts have now put a number on it having assessed what is out there,” Scott added. “They say that there are between 100 and 200 entities that could be having a similar evolution to us right now. So when you see a big thing in the sky, run for it.”

The veteran director was one of the first to make space scary with 1979’s “Alien,” which became a hit with both fans and critics, spawning prequels, books, toys and video games.

His “Xenomorph” and “chestburster” aliens have terrified moviegoers for nearly four decades — wreaking havoc on the film’s main character, Ripley, played by Sigourney Weaver while leaving loads of bodies in their wake.

Scott said Thursday he believes real-life extra-terrestials would also not be ones to mess with.

“They are a lot smarter than we are,” he explained. “If you are stupid enough to challenge them you will be taken out in three seconds.”

But Scott claimed he would have nothing to worry about.

“Nothing scares me,” he joked. “I have a 9mm (pistol).”

“Alien: Covenant” will open nationwide on May 19.

Nike, More Pass on Lonzo Ball After Father LaVar Asks for Big Baller Licensing

Nike, Under Armour and Adidas have all passed on endorsing NBA draft prospect Lonzo Ball, reportedly due to LaVar Ball’s efforts to include the licensing of Big Baller Brand.

Lonzo Ball may be one of the most talked about pro prospects in sports history, but in this day an age, there is such thing as bad publicity. While Lonzo has stayed relatively quiet and let his hoops do the talking, father Lavar has made him and his sons the butt of many jokes thanks to his outlandish comments. The most outrageous, of course, was his $1 billion price-tag for all three sons as a group deal, which many sneaker industry experts found completely inane.

Well, the Big Baller Brand took a bit of a hit as ESPN’s Darren Rovell reports that Nike, adidas, and Under Armour are not interested in signing Lonzo Ball. Lavar, who represents Lonzo and his sons, insisted that one of the brands license their Big Baller Brand and even went as far as showing them a shoe prototype. Lavar says he and his sons are not looking for a typical shoe contract, but rather a business partner.

Lonzo is projected to be one of the top picks of the upcoming NBA Draft and potentially be the first overall selection. But for all three big brands to kick a prospect of Lonzo’s nature to the curb speaks volumes and it doesn’t appear that the Ball billion dollar dynasty is starting anytime soon.

Google Wifi now available in Canada

Google Wifi, the mesh router that Google unveiled first last October, is now on sale in Canada. The router sells either individually for $179 CDN, or in a 3-pack for $439 CDN, which is pretty close to U.S. pricing given current exchange rates. The Wifi solution’s mesh networking approach means it can seamlessly pair with other units to extend coverage throughout a house, without sacrificing signal strength, and while also handing off connections from one device to the next with such smooth transitions that you won’t notice the change even if you’re on a VOIP call when it happens.

The Wifi router does indeed provide strong coverage, based on my short tests, but the most interesting thing for users who might not necessarily need improved coverage is that it also comes with a companion mobile app, which makes it incredibly easy to manage tasks that typically aren’t all that user-friendly when it comes to home networking solutions. The app lets you do things like prioritize certain devices for when there isn’t enough bandwidth to go around, see exactly what devices are connected, toggle and schedule access for specific devices and groups of devices, designate others as network managers and more.

Google’s industrial design means these puck-like little cylinders won’t ruin your home decor if you place them around your house, rather than hidden away, which is basically the worst thing you can do if you’re hoping for good, consistent and far-ranging Wi-Fi coverage.

Unlike with other home networking devices you may have used that offer dual-band, Google Wifi won’t make you pick one band (either 2.4GHz or 5GHz) among two separate networks. The idea is you never think about what you’re connecting to what, but the result is just that your devices are always getting the best possible speeds available given network conditions. Google sorts this out using its own machine learning algorithms, which are actually also predictive – meaning they can anticipate upcoming busy times on certain bands and adjust connections in anticipation so you don’t encounter any problems.

If UX and network quality aren’t reason enough (and the fact that competitor Eero doesn’t currently sell to Canada directly), then there’s another reason Canadians should take note of Wifi’s launch: Canadians helped build it in a big way. Every aspect of the tech, from hardware, to software, to the companion app, was worked on to a “significant” degree by Google’s engineering team in Waterloo.

Wifi goes on sale today at the Google Store online, as well as at Best Buy Canada, Staples Canada and Walmart Canada, and Google says more retailers will follow.

Couponing for Beginners: 11 Tips That Will Save You Thousands

I have been couponing for over a decade. I have saved thousands. I wish I would’ve been meticulous about tracking how much I have saved, but an estimated guess would be that I have easily saved over $25,000.00 in the 10 years I have been couponing. Right now, I save about $200-300 a month, which is over $2,400 a year. So in case you haven’t gotten into couponing yet, now is a great time. This is a couponing for beginners article. If you are already a seasoned pro, I offer my online video training course which outlines my efficient step-by-step couponing system which will save you  $45.00 in 35 minutes of couponing prep or less. (Order by clicking here).

Before I got started there was a lot I had to learn. These were the days before the popular TV show Extreme Couponing came on TLC. I didn’t have as many resources as there are now. I would have to say getting started now is a great time to start because of all the technological advancements that make matching sales and coupons so easy. Not to mention the huge amount of printable and online coupons and discounts available now that weren’t then.

Have I convinced you to start couponing? If so, let’s get started. Here are 11 coupon basics that you need to know no matter which store you shop at:

#1- Coupons have expiration dates and must be used before they expire. They also have other restrictions that need to be followed: size, quantity, brand, make, etc. Just think of it this way: the Big Print Giveth, the Small Print Taketh Away. For example a Pampers coupon will say $2.50 off in big print. At the outset that seems like an awesome deal. When you read the smaller print it will say off two boxes of Pampers Swaddlers Diapers. The boxes are pricey and it’s usually always a better deal to buy the smaller jumbo packs and use a high value coupon on those. The small print just took the $2.50 and made it not such a great deal after all. Read each coupon carefully.

#2- Coupon websites that match sales with the coupon are the best way to go when planning your shopping trip. They do most all of the work for you. They find the sales and then they find any available coupon for the sales and match them up. It’s awesome! A few that I have been using with a lot of success are:

Favado.com – The coolest thing about Favado is that it is an app for smart phones and can go with you into the stores. It is VERY accurate and free! Using this app saves me anywhere from $50.00-$200.00 a month!

Another great all around match up site is www.grocerysmarts.com. I love this site. With Grocerysmarts.com you can highlight just the stock up prices (I’ll mention more about those below). You can also easily list all the grocery stores in your area on one page. Awesome- especially for price matching. I use this website in conjunction with Krazycouponlady.com and the Favado phone ap.

Another amazing website that you can often find awesome, typically unadvertised, and all the best deals is thekrazycouponlady.com. I love this site!

Quickly checking at least two and usually three different sources before going to a store ensures that I don’t miss an amazing deal.

Finally, an awesome app that works for just about any popular grocery store and some retail stores and theaters allows you to earn cash back is called Ibotta. In the first 3 months of using it I made $77!  Ibotta is like a mobile coupon app/rebate machine. When you buy something being sponsored by Ibotta and the store you bought it at you will earn cash back. At the end of your shopping trip to redeem an item  you need to follow a quick process of learning a fact, watching a short clip, or sharing it on Facebook. After that, you simply take a quick photo of your receipt and the product you bought and the cash will be credited to your account. Plus, if you sign up and redeem 10 purchases with over .25 cent rebates you will receive a $10.00 bonus if done in the first 30 days which is a pretty great deal! Click here to sign up for Ibotta and be sure to redeem to earn your $10.00 bonus.

Another free app is called Checkout51. It is very similar to Ibotta but it can be used with any store. I’ve tested it and It works great! Plus, unlike ibotta it isn’t store exclusive, which is great for people who live in smaller towns and that don’t shop at big chain grocery stores. You can get cash back on milk, eggs, and other everyday groceries. I use this and ibotta together and sometimes get items for free! Sign up for Checkout51 here!

#3- You can print off coupons online. Most all coupons can be printed 2 times per computer. If you have a laptop and a desktop you can get 4 coupons to use. You simply either need to hit the back button after a coupon is done printing and it will reprint or you will need to go back and re-select the coupon and print again. These are some of the best resources to find online coupons:

a. Coupons.com—is the largest database of online printable manufacturer coupons. You can often just go to coupons.com and find items that you may have on your grocery list and print them off there. A more efficient use of time is to search on hotcouponworld.com for the items on your grocery list instead of sifting through all of the coupons on coupons.com.

b. HotCouponWorld.com—Is a huge coupon search/database that can search for almost every coupon out there in the USA. Once you are at HotCouponWorld.com, click on the coupon database and search for items that you need. It will show you if there are any coupons out there (printable, insert (non printable), etc.) available for that certain item. (The database doesn’t work with smartphones. You will need to use desktops or laptops to search for coupons for specific items.)

#4- If you use over 5-10 coupons each shopping trip, buying a Sunday newspaper subscription will save you money. I tried both couponing with and without the newspaper. I saved much more by having a newspaper subscription. I actually paid for all 4 of my newspaper subscriptions in the first 3 weeks I had them by using the coupons I found in them.

Right now there is a special deal for Utahans, Nevadans, and Californians on newspapers (for other states you may want to try googling to see if you can find good deals): Utahns (click here)  (Utahns in Box Elder, Cache, Weber and Davis Counties click hereLas Vegas Review Journal LA County Metro  LA County Inland San Diego Union Tribune Press Enterprise It is important to note that if you ever don’t have the newspaper arrive, are missing inserts in your paper, or get the wrong quantity delivered, the newspaper company will credit you for an extra paper at the end of your subscription. Although this rarely happens, if it does you need to call and notify them each time. Also, when you buy the newspaper call them and tell them you do not want the special editions (as they cost additional money and will cut your subscription short).

#5- Coupons come in the mail and newspapers.  The main mailer is an insert called Red Plum. In some areas Red Plum also comes in the Sunday papers. The abbreviation used for Red Plum on most all couponing sites is RP. Smart Source ( SS) comes in the Sunday papers. Proctor and Gamble (PG) also comes in the newspaper (usually the first paper each month). Side note: another few abbreviations are BOGO ‘buy one get one free” and MM which means it is a money maker. A money maker, in most cases means that by buying the item (which is free) you will have extra money through its purchase to use toward another item in that same purchase. OOP means total out of pocket money you will need to purchase the transaction/products.

Surprise! Elon Musk actually gets his tunnel-boring machine at SpaceX

When SpaceX CEO Elon Musk told his Twitter followers in December that he was sick of traffic and planning to build a tunnel-boring machine to “just start digging,” most thought it was a joke.

Musk insisted, on Twitter – his favorite form of public communication – that it was true.

He even proposed a name – The Boring Co. – and a slogan: “Boring, it’s what we do.”

On Thursday, an all-white tunnel-boring machine appeared outside SpaceX’s Hawthorne headquarters.

“The Boring Company” was written on the side of the massive cylindrical machine sitting in the parking lot. Still in three pieces from its transport, it wasn’t fully put together yet.

SpaceX officials did not comment, and a SpaceX employee immediately took down a photo of the machine he had posted on social media.

Though Musk initially said SpaceX engineers would build the machine, he later said he planned to “get” one and take it apart to learn how to make it more efficient.

Last week, a tunnel-boring machine used by L.A. Metro to carve out 2 miles of earth for the new Crenshaw/LAX line was removed from the future Leimert Park Station in South Los Angeles in three pieces.

No one confirmed whether the 950-ton, 400-foot-long steel grinder would go to SpaceX. Metro had dubbed the machine “Harriet,” in honor of Harriet Tubman, an American abolitionist instrumental in the Underground Railroad, after a student contest.

The day Harriet finished work for Metro, Musk submitted plans to Hawthorne officials to build an underground pedestrian tunnel from SpaceX headquarters to its parking garage across Crenshaw Boulevard.

A vertical tunnel shaft already has been dug in the SpaceX parking lot.

Now, The Boring Co. machine will dig – cheese grater-style – a 500-foot-long, horizontal pedestrian tunnel that is 20-by-150 feet and 13.5 feet in diameter, according to interim Hawthorne City Manager Arnie Shadbehr.

While Musk said he wants to build tunnels for automobiles, he hasn’t specified where or how he would do that.

Tunneling would fit nicely with Musk’s Hyperloop plan, which he announced in a 2013 white paper as a new kind of mass-transit technology that would propel passenger pods through vacuum-sealed tubes at hundreds of miles per hour.

At the first-ever university Hyperloop-pod prototype competition in January outside SpaceX headquarters, Musk discussed his tunneling plans. He said his ultimate goal is to improve tunnel engineering to build tunnels better and faster.

“We started digging a hole on Crenshaw just in front of SpaceX,” Musk said. “There’s a giant hole. So, that’s going to be the start for the tunnel-boring machine.

“We’re going to try to figure out what it takes to improve tunneling speed between 500 and 1,000 percent. So we’re just sort of muddling along. We have no idea what we’re doing. We’re going to get this (tunnel-boring) machine, take it apart (and) figure out how to make it go faster while still being safe and not affecting people on the surface.”

Hodor actor Kristian Nairn teases return to Game of Thrones as a White Walker

‘As a fan, I’m not sure I would love that,’ he told the Belfast Telegraph, before adding: ‘But as an actor, I would absolutely love that and it would be so much fun to play that.’

He then basically s**t on everyone’s dreams as Kristian then added he was pleased with the way his character died in the hit series and doesn’t think another ‘Jon Snow-style resurrection’ would work again.

‘But I kind of think it’s nice the way it’s left. There have been enough rebirth moments in Game of Thrones,’ he said.

Keeping us on tenterhooks he then added: ‘I’m just going to say no, but I might be lying. I can’t give anything away. I have let things slip before by accident, and I’ve learnt the hard way.’

The actor has revealed performing as a drag queen helped combat shyness while giving a ‘two-fingered’ salute to the haters.

Long before finding fame as Hodor on the HBO fantasy series, the 41-year-old openly gay actor said performing as a drag artist in Moscow helped him to come out of his shell.

‘I ended up working in the Kremlin, I actually started working as a drag artist and that changed into being a DJ. I had a lot of fun doing both,’ he told the Belfast Telegraph.

‘I was quite a shy person growing up and drag was very much a shield for me to perform behind. My drag name was Revvlon.

‘In a way for me it was a two-fingered salute to the people who said I couldn’t do that kind of thing.’

And if he could give a piece of advice to his fans, Nairn said the meaning behind his ‘two-fingered’ salute would be just that.

‘Just do what you want to do and don’t worry about what people say,’ he said.

‘Any sort of performance was always what I was really born to do.’

Mark Zuckerberg helps assemble F-150s during first Michigan vist

During his first trip to Michigan, Facebook creator Mark Zuckerberg visited the Ford Rouge Plant.

He says he had the opportunity to play a small part in assembling some Ford F-150s by adding cleats, antennas and drilling screws.

Zuckerberg even signed the inspection sticker on one of the vehicles that’ll soon be owned by a surprised driver.

He says the most interesting part of his trip was talking to the workers who keep the plant running each day.

“Working at Ford is a long term thing,” he wrote. “Most of the workers I met had been at the plant for at least a decade, and a lot of them have kids and friends who work there, too. Someone told me that when you spend 11 hours a day, four days a week together, you end up becoming family and friends outside of work, too.”

Working on an assembly line is a physically demanding job, he says, and he heard from workers first-hand about just how hard it can be.

“Each person told me separately how important it is to have good shoes because you’re essentially walking on a treadmill for 10 hours a day. Every 52 seconds, you have to go through your set of tasks — 650 times a day,” he wrote. “You have to be perfect, but the biggest challenge is having the focus to do the same thing over and over again.”

YouTuber faces jail time for his movie parodies, as angry studios say his videos hurt sales

A popular Taiwan-based YouTuber, famous for his movie recap videos, is facing a lawsuit against local studios, which are accusing him of copyright infringement.

Chung Wei-ding, more famously known as AmoGood (谷阿莫), makes videos of big screen films, where he often humourously summarises their plot with quick-speaking voiceover.

He’s done parodies of local films, as well as Hollywood blockbusters like 50 Shades of Grey and Guardians of the Galaxy.

This one, in his typical style, is titled “Watch Guardians of the Galaxy in 5 minutes.”

AmoGood has over 990,000 subscribers, who often virally share his creations on social media.

But Taiwanese film studio AutoAi Design, and streaming platform KKTV, say 31-year-old infringed on the studios’ copyright.

AutoAi Design, which distributed films like Doraemon: Nobita’s Space Heroes in Taiwan, also said that AmoGood’s critiques have greatly dented its ticket sales at the box office.

Taiwanese prosecutors obtained a warrant to raid his company premises for evidence, and the YouTuber was called into a Taipei police station for questioning last week, the China Post reported.

Can you get sued for making parodies?

AmoGood’s videos are produced in a similar vein to other popular channels such as CinemaSins and Screen Junkies’ Honest Trailers.

Elaina Foo, a Singapore-based associate lawyer at Holborn Law, said many of these producers typically claim fair use as a defence in most jurisdictions.

“Generally, where a YouTuber can demonstrate that his use of copyright material was ‘fair’, it would not be considered infringement, although some jurisdictions may have other requirements as well,” Foo told Mashable.

Courts generally consider several factors in determining if a work is derivative — and not an infringement. Work that is transformative, remixing the original to change or comment on its meaning, could be considered fair use.

Other instances of fair use include clips for news reporting, teaching, or research.

But AmoGood may be in a bind in Taiwan, whose media laws don’t count parodies as fair use. The territory’s courts are likely to consider other factors too, such as whether the work takes away potential sales or viewers from the original work.

Additionally, reports have speculated that AmoGood downloads the source films illegally, since he’s able to produce the parodies so quickly after their box office debut.

In a video statement, AmoGood said that his videos fulfilled the fair use defence, adding that he only used a minimal portion of the copyrighted source films.

AmoGood further asserts that YouTube is on his side, claiming that the streaming giant has confirmed over email that it isn’t taking his videos down.

Some Taiwanese filmmakers aren’t fans. A couple of them told Apple Daily that his videos were “disrespectful” to their movies.

“Each film is the brainchild of directors and producers, and this guy just took it and made fun of it,” Kevin Chu — the director of Taiwanese hits like Kung Fu Dunk — told Apple Daily. “I don’t believe that this is considered fair use. It’s disrespect.”

Jungle Cruise Movie: Dwayne Johnson Wants Wonder Woman Director

Earlier this month, Dwayne Johnson gave a new update on his Jungle Cruise movie for Disney, revealing that he plans to start shooting that adventure in the spring of 2018. As of now, Dwayne Johnson is the only cast member attached, and there is no director attached at this time, with Glenn Ficarra and John Requa writing the script. Today we have word that, while it may be some time before a director is locked down, Dwayne Johnson already has someone in mind, Wonder Woman filmmaker Patty Jenkins.

The Associated Press ran a new profile on Patty Jenkins earlier today, and her road to directing Wonder Woman, which is only her second feature film after the critically-acclaimed 2003 film Monster, which earned Charlize Theron her first Oscar. Between now and then, the filmmaker had been courted to direct Thor for a period of time, and she kept busy on the small screen, directing episodes of Arrested Development, Entourage and The Killing before getting the call to direct Wonder Woman. At the end of this profile, AP spoke with Dwayne Johnson, who said he is a fan of Patty Jenkins’ work, revealing she would be perfect for his Jungle Cruise movie.

“Patty has that really cool edge. I felt like she could be a really cool choice for a movie like Jungle Cruise. Plus, you know what? I’m just a big fan.”

Disney had been plotting a Jungle Cruise movie for quite some time, with the studio originally eyeing Toy Story stars Tom Hanks and Tim Allen to star, but that incarnation of the project never came together. Dwayne Johnson boarded the project back in 2015, teasing that this project is an “edgy period movie, based on the iconic Disney World ride. The ride itself debuted at Disneyland in 1955, and was eventually brought to all of the Disney theme parks around the world. The ride itself is set in the 1920s, and it seems that the movie will keep that same setting.

The ride takes passengers on a trip down a series of major rivers from all over the world, where passengers come across wild animals, hostile natives and much more, which are portrayed through animatronic characters. No details have been given for who The Rock is playing at this time, but perhaps we’ll find out more when a director becomes involved with the project. Dwayne Johnson is currently filming his video game adaptation Rampage, which is set for release next spring. He also has Skyscraper, Doc Savage and San Andreas 2 in various stages of development. Hopefully we’ll find out more about Jungle Cruise soon as we get closer to a production start next year.
