Twitter news video will appear 24/7, thanks to Bloomberg

Last week, Twitter announced plans to launch a network of news-based TV shows that would stream on the social media company’s apps 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Now, a report by The Wall Street Journal has confirmed that Twitter will be partnering with Bloomberg in its live streaming endeavor, and together the two plan to launch a service “that will stream news produced solely for Twitter,” and is set to debut sometime in the fall of 2017.

The network, which has yet to be officially named, will showcase the “most important” pieces of news going on every day around the world, and Bloomberg Media CEO Justin Smith mentioned that it will be “broader in focus” than the media company’s existing network. The Bloomberg/Twitter hybrid won’t be a simple rebroadcasting of Bloomberg’s existing news streams, but consist of all-new reporting from various global Bloomberg bureaus.

Twitter’s contribution to the network will come in the addition of crowd sourced footage being added into news pieces through videos posted on Twitter during related news coverage.

“It is going to be focused on the most important news for an intelligent audience around the globe and it’s going to be broader in focus than our existing network,” said Bloomberg Media’s chief executive officer, Justin Smith.

“We really think we can reach audiences that are not paying for TV and are watching television on the go and we think Bloomberg is the perfect partner for us to start with,” said Anthony Noto, Twitter’s chief financial and operating officer.

The monetary aspect of the deal was not disclosed by either Twitter or Bloomberg, but the companies did confirm that the network would be supported by advertisements and that programming duties would entirely fall on Bloomberg’s shoulders.

The report comes ahead of the official announcement of the partnership, set to happen later today at an event that Bloomberg is holding for advertisers, where Michael Bloomberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey will both be in attendance. Previously, Twitter and Bloomberg partnered to cover the presidential debates last year on the social media network.

Besides those debates, Twitter has embraced live video during a number of special events, including the inauguration and pre- and post-shows for the 2017 Oscars. Video has subsequently turned into a major effort for Twitter, and in the first quarter of 2017 became one of the largest portions of the company’s ad revenue, ramping up alongside similar video projects from rivals Facebook and Snapchat.

The advantage for users watching Twitter and Bloomberg’s network will come thanks to the ability to watch live news coverage while simultaneously viewing and posting commentary of it from Twitter’s social network. “Viewers have already embraced a multistream experience with live events,” said Smith. “And marrying those experiences seemed like a very powerful thing to offer to consumers.”

Meet Z Yang, American Girl’s New Korean-American Doll

American Girl fans can now take filmmaker Suzie “Z” Yang, the manufacturer’s first Korean-American doll, home to create their own vlogging adventures.

The company debuted Z and her accessories today (April 27). A company press release describes her as follows:

Z (short for Suzie) is a Korean American hailing from Seattle, and is the latest addition to American Girl’s new series of contemporary characters and stories designed to speak to more girls’ interests, backgrounds and experiences. Through Z, girls get to learn more about this creative young filmmaker who loves staying connected with friends and sharing a good story through her stop motion videos.

Fans might recognize her from “Z’s Crew,” the stop-motion web series she hosts on the manufacturer’s YouTube page that currently boasts more than a million views. Given Z’s interests, customers can purchase a range of accessories including cameras and a tripod alongside clothing options and Z’s dog, Popcorn.

American Girl further explores Z’s story in two books, “The Real Z” and “Z on Location,” written by Jen Calonita and published by Scholastic. Both books follow Z’s struggles to prove herself without compromising her identity while participating in a prestigious documentary film festival. “The Real Z” is out now, while “Z on Location” comes out this fall.

Z also stars in an upcoming Amazon special, An American Girl Story: Summer Camp Friends for Life,” that premieres June 6 on Amazon Prime Video. Fans looking for teasers, videos and more can visit American Girl’s new Z-specific website.

NBC News reported in February that Z is the first American Girl doll of Asian descent since the company discontinued Ivy Ling—a Chinese-American girl who grew up in 1970s San Francisco—in 2014. She is one of several dolls introduced or announced this year that diversify American Girls’ line-up. Other dolls include Gabriela McBride, a Black aspiring poet that the company designated its 2017 “Girl of the Year;” Nanea Mitchell, a Native Hawaiian growing up during World War II; and Logan Everett, a musician and the company’s first boy. Nanea dolls hit the market this fall, while Gabriela and Logan are available now.

American Girl spokesperson Julie Parks told NBC News that the company developed the newest dolls in response to fan demand for more diverse characters. “The one thing we’ve heard loud and clear is a desire for more—specifically more characters and stories from today—with more experiences, more diversity and more interests,” she said.

MATTEL MAKES NEW “SHERO” BARBIE AFTER GABBY DOUGLAS

The 2016 Olympics are right around the corner and Team USA has named their lineup to compete as the U.S. Olympic Women’s Gymnastic team. Amongst the four competitors are three time all around world champion Simone Biles, as well as Aly Raisman and Gabby Douglas who are the first Team USA gymnasts to make consecutive Olympic appearances since 2000.

Gabby Douglas inspired the world with her 2012 Olympic success which led to a film based on her life story titled The Gabby Douglas Story, and a reality series titled Douglas Family Gold. Different from what most would have expected, Gabby Douglas’ 2016 Olympic trials performances were not necessarily the best. The first two out of three days of Olympic tryouts were not on Gabby’s side. She stumbled off the balance beam twice which at one point landed her in seventh place out of 14 contenders. Fortunately, Gabby still made the team as judges deemed experience higher than tryout performance.

To add to such an accomplishment, Mattel created a Gabby Douglas barbie doll. Mattel added Douglas’ barbie to the “Shero” barbie lineup who has also honored ballerina, Misty Copeland, film director, Ava Duvernay and Zendaya.

The doll has yet to reach stores but will soon be able to be purchased on the barbiecollection.com

Hulu’s cable killer adds NBC

Hulu has just announced an agreement with NBCUniversal that will result in channels including NBC, Telemundo, USA, E!, Syfy, Bravo, and the MSBNC and CNBC news networks becoming part of Hulu’s soon-to-launch streaming TV service.

“Hulu will soon provide an affordable, complete live TV package that includes all four major broadcast networks, the top-rated cable news channels, a massive sports offering, and our deep existing premium streaming library for under $40,” CEO Mike Hopkins said in a press release. Importantly, the deal also includes a framework for getting NBC’s affiliates around the country on board with Hulu’s service.

That monthly price Hopkins mentioned has been rumored to be $39.99, so while Hopkins is technically correct, it would place Hulu above the starting price of Sling TV, the cheapest of the streaming, live TV offerings. Sling doesn’t include all four broadcast networks for that price, however. The more recent YouTube TV does, and it costs $35 per month.

Hulu has already signed on numerous other broadcasters and networks including CBS, The Walt Disney Company (which would cover ABC, Disney Channel, and ESPN), 21st Century Fox, Turner Networks, and A+E Networks.

The company has said its live TV service will launch sometime this spring. Hulu plans to differentiate itself from the wave of other internet TV products with a unique user experience and its strong back catalog of on-demand content. Whereas many consumers might not associate YouTube with traditional television, Hulu has stronger brand recognition there; it’s already where a lot of people go for next-day reruns — and now, at last, well-received original shows that can actually stand up to those from Netflix and Amazon.

Comcast, NBCUniversal’s parent company, is a partial owner of Hulu. But the megacorp is a silent partner and unable to influence Hulu’s business direction; those terms were imposed as part of Comcast’s acquisition of NBCUniversal. Hulu had to negotiate this deal with NBCUniversal like any other partner.

First commercial carbon-capture plant set to open in Switzerland

What is the best way to get rid of greenhouse gases? The Swiss company Climeworks thinks the answer is to feed them to a greenhouse. The company is now building what is expected to be the world’s first plant to do so commercially.

The firm expects to be opening the plant near Zurich in September or October. The plant will suck carbon dioxide out of the ambient air and sell it to an agricultural company to spur the growth of lettuce, cucumbers and tomatoes.

C02 is already taken out of the air in enclosed spaces like submarines and space capsules. Climeworks will be using a similar process called direct air capture (DAC), in which normal ambient air is pushed through a fibrous sponge-like filter material that has been impregnated with chemicals called amines, derived from ammonia, which bind to C02.

Hot air

Once the filter is saturated, the gas will be released by warming it with the heat generated by a nearby municipal waste incineration plant, then piped to a 4 hectare greenhouse.

The big question for air capture has always been its price. “The American Physical Society estimated that on a large scale C02 could be captured for $600 per tonne,” says Climeworks chief operating officer Dominique Kronenberg. “We expect to equal that and eventually get costs down well below that.”

At that price, taking C02 out of the air is more expensive than removing it from the flue gases of industrial facilities and power plants, where the gas is up to 300 times more concentrated. Capturing flue gas is already happening in a handful of demonstration projects around the globe.

“The advantage of taking it out of the ambient air is that you can do it wherever you are on the planet,” says Kronenberg. “You don’t depend on a C02 source, so you don’t have high costs transporting it where it is needed.”

Fuel from the air

Climeworks will be using funding from the Swiss Federal Office of Energy to fine-tune the plant design to make it run more cheaply and efficiently during the three-year pilot period.

The company hopes that thereafter it will run as a self-sustaining business. The plant will collect between 2 and 3 tonnes of C02 a day. Humans add about 40 billion tonnes of the greenhouse gas to the air annually.

The firm expects to add modules in the future to catch additional C02 that can be used with existing technologies to produce liquid fuels.

Such air capture has its critics. “I think it provides false hope,” says Howard Herzog, senior research engineer at the MIT Energy Initiative. If we are unwilling to use relatively cheap mitigation options, like alternative energies, today, he says, “why should we expect future generations to adopt significantly more expensive measures to deal with C02?”

Incentives needed

David Keith of Harvard University, and founder of Carbon Engineering in Calgary, Canada, which is working on its own technology to turn air-captured C02 into fuels, is more upbeat.

“While there is no one silver bullet technology to end climate change, using direct air capture to make fuels is potentially scalable, in a way that biofuels aren’t, because it doesn’t use much land or other resources,” he says.

But for air capture to grow to the point where it makes an impact on our climate crisis, he says, we’ll need to get serious about regulating carbon.

“The answer is really clear,” says Keith. “If there are no restrictions on putting C02 in the air, no incentives, no government price on carbon, then these technologies are dead, but so are other technologies, even wind power and solar would be close to dead.”

5 Simple Ways to Generate International Passive Income

There are many organizations that provide you with an opportunity to generate international passive income. But the problem is that most people do not understand it properly and think that they are scams. I understand that it may be true to some but not for all. There are some programs that may promise you of high international passive income but they do not actually do what they promise.

Mostly, these international passive income programs are related to trading business or an online marketing business. There are many ways through which you can find out what these programs are really offering to you.

Firstly, you should find out if the program provides you with the necessary tools or training that is required to operate the business internationally. This is noticed in the online marketing industry. They have websites that display offers for all to review.

Secondly, you should check if the income is passive. A passive income is a profit that you will receive daily and that can be maintained by putting in little efforts. The network marketing association and network marketing groups are such two great examples of the passive income. The basic goal of network marketing is to employ more and more people in the business and you can earn a good commission amount based upon the sales they make and also on your own sales. This means that you can earn commissions based on the people you have recruited when they make sales without you being actually putting any efforts in generating those sales.

There are several other ways wherein you can earn international passive income. Well, most of the programs actually support active incomes which are generated instantly like forex trading. But, the international passive income programs should be chosen carefully by researching them, then deciding whether they meet your expectations or not.

Here are some of the ways to generate international passive income.

1: Writing: Write articles and promote products to earn money.

2: Blogging: There are many people who earn money by writing blogs.

3: Affiliated marketing: It is how you market other peoples products and services.

4: Selling out your own items on E-bay or Quickr.

5: Writing your own e-book and selling it online.

You can get international passive income opportunities by carefully researching them, online with the help of the internet. Well, most of us may think that these income streams are a scam because not all understand it properly. But, this is not true. A international passive income is a source to earn money for those who would like to work from home. It can also be a great opportunity for those who want to just earn extra money.

The international passive income can either be a result of the overseas customers, who are buying your product or services or it can be an overseas company who have appointed you to market and sell their products. Whatever the case may be, you will be paid for the efforts based on the amount of time and determination you put into the work. In most cases your payments can be deposited directly into your bank account.

Who Are The American Gods?

Fans of author Neil Gaiman have been waiting for an adaptation of his Hugo and Nebula Award winning fantasy epic American Gods since its publication. After multiple failed attempts, the book its finally making its way to the small screen, courtesy of Hannibal’s Bryan Fuller and Heroes’ Michael Green. The series, which will follow reluctant hero Shadow Moon (Ricky Whittle) as he accompanies the enigmatic Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane) across the country in preparation for a mystical war, is easily one of the most highly anticipated new shows of 2017, and will debut tonight on Starz.

Like much of Gaiman’s work, American Gods is a fascinating exploration of faith, mythology and the power behind that which we adore. In Shadow’s world, the gods of old – from Norse, Egyptian and African mythology, among others – have been abandoned by the people who used to worship them in favor of the obsessions of the new world, from media to technology. The showrunners have compiled a cast as diverse and fascinating as the gods they’ll inhabit, and given that the first season is said to only encompass about the first third of the novel, there will be plenty of room to explore each of them in immense detail.

While the mythology geeks in the audience will spot each gods’ origins in a heartbeat, for the novices and the curious, we’ve compiled a primer on the main gods, old and new, who Shadow will be encountering on his very odd road trip.

Curvy Model Candice Huffine Is Thanking Her 15-Year-Old Self for the Best Reason

“It doesn’t bother me to talk about my body as much as I do because it’s what’s implementing the change,” Huffine tells Yahoo Style. “If I can get you to look at me in a different way, instead of just seeing size and making the wrong assumption about what my body is, I’ll talk about it all the time.”

Huffine was featured in the 2015 Pirelli calendar. She’s fronted a campaign for Lane Bryant. She’s walked in Sophie Theallet and Prabal Gurung’s shows during New York Fashion Week; the Fall 2017 shows were particularly diverse, featuring Huffine, Ashley Graham, and Georgia Pratt, among others.

But all that’s bows and whistles compared with what Huffine views as her life’s work: to make women of every size, shape, and color love themselves and think anything is possible. To that end, she started Project Start, pushing women to pound the pavement.

That’s because Huffine is a runner. Fresh off the Boston Marathon, which she ran on April 17, she jokes that she wonders when it’s finally inappropriate to carry the medal around with her. Possibly never?

“I wanted to bring something active into my life. I was a short fuse. I was on edge. I was always tired and dragging. So you have a glass of wine instead. My husband does triathlons, and I watched him doing that for years. I never thought it was something for me. I just wrote it off. Can’t do it. Look at me, I can’t be a runner. I don’t look like them,” she says.

So her husband dared her to give it a shot. Huffine, never one to turn down a challenge, said yes. And here she is, bringing running shoes with her when she shoots in different cities so that she can exercise.

“Here we are now. Something about it took right away. It’s very hard. There was something that kept me going back for more. Looking back, it was the way I felt. It chilled me out. It gave me alone time. It just worked for me,” she says.
