An Overdue Update....

My life has been chaotic, but now is the time for me to get back on track. And so far, I have not been entirely absent from the world of writing.

My entry into Hodderscape's open call (way back in late 2015!) went better than expected- my entry for Aegis Immemorial was in the final 25 considered out of an initial pool of over 1400 entries! Ultimately, they did not ask for my full manuscript, but it was an amazing experience and gave my confidence a real boost. Since then, I have been working on polishing Aegis Immemorial and have set out on a quest to acquire an agent! If that doesn't pan out, my plan is to begin a crowdfunding campaign early next year in order to self-publish Aegis Immemorial myself. I will be posting excepts and teasers between then and now, and will be making a concerted effort to self-promote and spread the word before the campaign goes live!

As well as that, I have been working on two new manuscripts: their working titles are The Runner and The Wizards of Mayberry Hill.

The Runner is a science-fiction outing set on an alien world without a single human in sight, and concerns the exploits of Mahr, a wandering engineer searching the mist-covered lands for the lost technological marvels of his people.

The Wizards of Mayberry Hill follows Jack, a young trans man who has moved to the countryside to escape the pressures of city life. Unfortunately, his new next door neighbour is a wizard, which means that Jack's country escape is not going to be as peaceful as he was hoping it would be...

I look forward to sharing more about these stories as they develop, and in the meantime, I will get back to the grindstone (or the keyboard, in this case).

Going Out on a Limb

So, I originally published 'Death's White Hnads' as a stand-alone short story, and overwhelmingly the feedback that I have received is that I aught to to expand it into a novel. I have decided to take this feedback to heart, and have been working hard on an episodic story chronicling Dan's exploits.

Further to this, I have decided to enter a synopsis into Hodderscape's open call for unagented authors. It's a big step for me, and chances are I will not get picked, but the experience of putting together the required documents for submission has been excellent practice. And besides, you don't know unless you try!

As well as Dan's story, I will also be submitting a synopsis for one of my science fiction novels. Hodderscape specialises in speculative fiction, so for anybody out there reading this who has similar works and is looking for a place that might take them on: the deadline is the 16th, and good luck! :D
