Pre-Schism Saints of the Orthodox Roman Patriarchate*
30th July (17th July O.S.):
ALEXIS (the Man of God), (Early Fifth Century), the son of a Roman senator who, in order to serve God in humility, he fled from his parental home disguised as a beggar, and set sail for Edessa, where he managed to live unrecognised for seventeen years before an Icon of the Mother of God proclaimed him 'the man of God'. He fled again and eventually returned to Rome and for years lived unrecognised as a beggar in his own home. After his repose a mysterious voice again proclaimed him 'the man of God'.ANDREW ZORARD, a Pole who lived as an anchorite on Mount Zobar in Hungary, reposing circa A.D. 1010.CYNLLO, a fifth century A.D. Saint about whom there is no reliable information extant, however there are several churches dedicated to him in Wales.ENNODIUS, Magnus Felix Ennodius was a Gallo-Roman who became Bishop of Pavia. He was entrusted with two missions to Constantinople in connection with the Eutychian controversy. An Orthodox poet, his hymns are very edifying.FREDEGAND (FREGAUT), a disciple of St. Foillan (31st October) who became a monk and Abbot of Kerkelodor near Antwerp. nbsp; He reposed circa A.D. 740.GENEROSUS, (Date Unknown), a Saint venerated in Tivoli, in which City's cathedral his relics are enshrined.

KENELM, the son of Coenwulf, King of Mercia in England. According to most common legends, all of which are based upon a twelfth century manuscript at Winchcombe Abbey, St. Kenelm, at the age of seven, was murdered by beheading at the instigation of his sister Cynefrith who sought to assume the throne. His body was buried in an unmarked location in the Forest of Clent. Kenelm’s soul is then said to have arisen in the form of a dove carrying a scroll, which flew to Rome where it dropped the scroll at the feet of the Pope. The message on the scroll read: ‘Low in a mead of kine under a thorn, of head bereft, lieth poor Kenelm king-born’. The Pope then wrote the Archbishop of Canterbury, who commissioned a party from the Mercian capital, Winchcombe, to seek the body. As they searched, they saw a pillar of light shining over a thicket in Worcestershire. Buried beneath it they found the body of St. Kenelm. The monks transported his relics to Winchcombe Abbey, where they were enshrined, and remained for several hundred years.
However, the wider historical record supports none of this. St. Kenelm was most likely aged twenty-five when he reposed from unknown causes. His sister Cynefrith, who had received monastic tonsure at the time of her father's death, was the Abbess of Minster-in-Thanet at the time of her brother’s repose (circa A.D. 821).
Regardless of the accuracy of the legend, St. Kenelm was universally venerated as a saint and martyr in Mediæval England. He is mentioned in the Canterbury Tales (the Nun's Priest's Tale, lines 290–301), and twelfth century English historian William of Malmesbury recounted that “there was no place in England to which more pilgrims travelled than to Winchcombe on Kenelm’s feast day”. MARCELLINA, the elder sister of St. Ambrose of Milan (7th December) and St. Satyrus (17th September) who became a nun in her early twenties. She reposed circa A.D. 398, and her remains are enshrined in Milan.SCILLITAN MARTYRS, twelve martyrs, seven men and five women, who suffered at Scillium in Numidia under Septimius Severus, A.D. 180. Their names are: Speratus, Narzales, Cythinus, Veturius, Felix, Acyllinus, Laetantius, Januaria, Generosa, Vestina, Donata and Secunda. The Acta of the Scillitan Martyrs are considered to be the earliest documents of the church of Africa and also the earliest specimen of Christian Latin.THEODOSIUS, the Bishop of Auxerre from circa A.D. 507 until his repose circa A.D. 516.TURNINUS, (Eighth Century), an Irish priest who worked with St. Foillan (31st October) in Flanders.

It seems he was originally from the British Isles and that he went to Brittany, where he lived as an anchorite, and eventually was consecrated Bishop of Léon. His relics were enshrined in Plabennec. Returning to England, she received monastic tonsure from St. Theodore of Canterbury (19th September) at her mother’s monastery of Minster-in-Thanet. St. Mildred succeeded her mother as Abbess upon St. Ermenburg’s repose. As Abbess, St. Mildred earned a reputation for patience, love, and kindness. Following a long illness, St. Mildred reposed circa A.D. 700, and was succeeded by St. Edburga (13th December). A story is told that during St. Edburga’s rule, the bell-ringer fell asleep before the altar and St. Mildred appeared and woke him by hitting him on the ear and exclaiming, “This is the oratory, not the dormitory!” St. Mildred was a popular saint in the years following her repose, and in local veneration she eclipsed even St. Augustine of Canterbury (27th May). The location of St. Augustine’s landing became known to locals as “St. Mildred’s Rock”. The bulk of St. Mildred’s relics were translated to Canterbury in A.D. 1033, with some minor relics translated to Deventer in Holland where she was also venerated.
TROPARION of ST. MILDRED OF THANET — TONE IV Through constant prayer and frequent fasting, by ceaseless hymnody and great humility, the glorious Mildred forsook the allurements of her royal rank, trampling underfoot all worldly pride and presumption.
